] yes really, let's see where prices are this time next year They may well drop, I don’t know, you don’t know, no one really does. Your comment was in recession classic cars ALWAYS drop. My point, NO THEY DON’T coz they didn’t in 2008. In your opinion..... I stand by mine. I'll leave it there, you can argue with yourself about it if you want.

this pandemic will push the world economy and the UK economy into recession and classic car values always take a hit in times of recession. Really, they didn’t in 2008, if anything they went up ] yes really, let's see where prices are this time next year

Nice to see another Spit being saved. I've restored loads of them over the years, this was the last one I did, one of the last cars made... Loads more photos here... ians-spit.blogspot.com/2007/06/?m=0

great score, lovely cars to drive. I hope you manage to get the A/C up and running... it's fully integrated into the climate control / heater on these cars and you can't get cold or even really cool air without it in summer and it's notoriously difficult and expensive to fix.... you may be ok if it's just the compressor and it hasn't been in-op for too long.

Great thread and lovely car... I nearly bought a '75 series 2 last Saturday but got outbid by 100 quid Looking forward to reading what you do with this. You've probably already seen this video where Harry Metcalfe did the silencer delete and lowered his XJC... turned out great.

Fist off we had to cut a big lump of the sheets off his workshop, break out the big grinder. Before any of you worry I'm almost 100% positive that its cement fibre board and not asbestos. These sheets will be going back on on the new outer wall of the workshop Bloody hell mate, that is so perilous, I'd bet my mortgage those sheets contain chrysotile (white asbestos)... the only way to know for sure is to have a sample tested in a lab but you should always assume old cement products contain asbestos and FFS don't cut it dry with an angle grinder and no mask.... if we did that on site we'd be in court. You only get one pair of lungs and you don't want to fill them with this curse word. Stay safe man.

Great work, I've restored many a Spitfire, nice cars to work on. Good to see you've been unpicking it along the factory seams and welding full panels in rather than just patching it as many end up being done.

Just read Henry's book whilst on holiday, tore through it in a day. Guy has had an amazing life and is very open and honest about all his faults and addictions. Get the Impression he is more the grateful to have out the other side of it and gone on to have a very full and happy life. it's a good book and 'The Works' are selling it for 3 quid at the moment... bargain.

I've been considering one for a while too. The trouble i'm finding is they mostly seem to be 3 phase. I only have a 240v supply. I'm guessing it could be costly to convert? Just buy a single phase 240v lift... the Automotec lift I posted above is available in either single or 3 phase. If you buy a single phase lift you need a 30a supply running from your main consumer unit in your house / garage /workshop.

Thanks for this thread and all the replies. I’ve been considering a lift for a while for my barn, and it’s giving me food for thought. With apologies to the op for the hijack, is a decent concrete pad good enough for a 2 post, or should I be looking at doing the whole floor? Tia you definitely need a reinforced concrete floor for a 2 post lift. When I built my garage I put 15mm of compacted type 1 roadstone, 25mm of sandblinding, 1200g dpc visqeen, steel mesh reinforcement then 150mm of C35 readymixed concrete. Additionally underneath each lift column I dug out a pit 1000mm long, 600mm wide and 600mm deep and put a steel rebar cage in each one before mass filling it with concrete as the floor was poured. The 2 post lifts bolt down to the floor with M20 rawlbolts and there is a lot of pressure and stress on the floor when you have a car on the lift... check out the photos of my floor construction here... forum.retro-rides.org/thread/197207/another-garage-workshop-mancave-thread?page=1.

I bought a 4 ton 2 post lift from Automotec and it's the best money I spent on my garage build. I did a load of research and quite a few local garage businesses were using this exact same lift and all highly recommended it. Automotec are based about 0 miles from me so I went there and spoke to Steve the owner who couldn't have been more helpful and did me a great deal. A mate of mine also wanted one so Steve did us a deal for 2 lifts and we collected them from his unit. The lift has already paid for itself many times over and is superb. This is the one I bought... www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-POST-LIFT-CAR-VEHICLE-RAMP-HOIST-4-TON-4000Kg-NEW-TWO-POSTER/264314245094?hash=item3d8a5b4fe6:g:R-YAAOSwrklU2xSByou can see from the photo above the faith I have in it.... last winter, as well as using it for working on my cars I also used it to store one above the other to keep them out of the snow.

To an extent this is true. However we recently had Drew Pritchard from Salvage Hunters in where I work. The TV company sent a guy a few weeks before to scope out a few good locations to film 'filler' and finding where some good stuff was located, but otherwise he rocked up on the day in his van and did everything else quite genuinely. We had some stuff we wanted rid of, he wanted some of it, honest deals were struck, and there was no script, hype etc. I do think salvage hunters is a slight exception as that is Drew’s business and that’s his job, he was doing it long before the tv series and wasn’t just a business set up for the camera’s. if you walk around Drews shop in Conwy you can see and recognise some of the items for sale that we saw him buy in the tv series... on of the few genuine tv series featuring this type of thing. Flipping Bangers is reasonably believable but stuff like Classic Car Rescue with Bernie Fineman was so badly scripted and acted out it was almost unwatchable. Oh, and Wheeler Dealers is just the pits since Brewer sold his soul for the American dollar.

I'm trying to amend the number of stand passes we need on the RetroRides Events site but it says the page isn't functional... do we know when it will be working again so I can confirm numbers of stand passes for our club?
cheers Ian
