I have the same issue with my Mk1 Caddy. The glass rocks back and forth in the runner. Where did you find the replacement seal? Well I actually found it on my garage floor! It never got put back in after restoring the car, and I'd completely forgotten about it until I started looking for a replacement. But, that said, before realising I had the piece, I found it was available online. VW Classic Parts have them for a start. That's for a mk2 though, not sure if it's the same in a mk1, although it is literally just a strip of rubber channel with a fuzzy surface, so I guess a spare piece of window seal from any car could be cut to fit.

Where did you read that ? That's great news 😃 Sorry, should have said! It was on Instagram, I think it was one of David Tilley's posts, can't find it now! He has posted on the Matchbox forum confirming this as well.

Possibly some good news for Matchbox fans, I've just read that Tesco are going to be selling them!
Love that Ford pickup too, hopefully that gets reissued once they're available again.

Turns out the vertical channel in the front end of the door was missing it's rubber lining. So as the window was lowered into the channel, it was loose and rattling around. The missing piece is essentially just a length of the seal that runs all the way around the top of the door frame, rubber with a kind of fuzzy lining so the glass slides. Nice easy fix!

Can anyone help please? I think it's a fairly common problem but I'm struggling to find the answer.
Car is a 1990 2 door with manual big windows. If I have the window even the slightest bit open, it rattles. It's a kind of metallic rattle, and it happens with the window in any position except fully closed. I can see that the scraper seals are pretty loose, meaning I can move the glass in or out a few mm with my hand, but it doesn't seem like that's the problem, with the rattle being so metallic.
Maybe the glass is loose where it's held by the lifter? Just looking for a few pointers before I strip the door down so I can be ready with spare parts if needed!

I can't advise on the number of coils to cut, because I bought some lowering springs and cut them! Search around on here and the internet in general though, you'll find loads of people have done it already. Coilovers are non-existent for these cars so chopping is common.
I think spring pads come in 4 thicknesses, 1 dot is thinnest and 4 dots thickest, but check that first, my memory isn't the best!

I wouldn't wait a period of time as such, I'd just go for a quick spin, make sure you take in a few corners to give the suspension a good work out, then see how it sits. That should be all the settling it needs, any more after that I would have thought would be negligible.
Also, are you aware of the different thicknesses of spring pads for Mercs? Sometimes just changing them for the next size can give you the difference you need.
When I cut the springs on my W124, it made the ride quite bouncy, just to warn you!

Reliable and Discovery in the same sentence?!
Does it have to be a serious off roader or would a soft roader be good enough? I'm thinking a £1500 RAV4 or CRV. Plenty of room in the back with the seats down.

Looks great for a bit of detailing too! Yes, the plastic trim was dark grey on these, as opposed to black on a VW (we had both a mk2 Jetta and our Novas at the same time and I remember the difference!)

cupracraig Can I ask what front mount you’re using? My Mk2 20vt has a solid front mount which makes it quite jerky. I didn’t think there were many other options but I can see yours is a rubber bush. its just a g60 front mount, only a few quid I've just replaced the solid front mount on my G60 with an OEM spec one for exactly that reason - it was so jerky! I used one of THESE Febi Bilstein items. Looks and feels great quality and has made a big difference. Sorry for the hijack! Car looks amazing in that photo btw!

Novaaaaa!!!
Wow, I love it! Another one with fond memories of Novas here, my Mum had 2 when I was little. The first one was passed on to my Grandparents and the second one to me! Both 5 door 1.2 Merits. C reg in silver moss and F reg in steel grey. And our next door neighbour had... an Antibes! A white 3 door.
Anyway, great to see one in such great shape and being kept that way! I know what you mean about them feeling fragile compared to a mk2 Golf. But they're actually fairly sturdy and reliable. The front valance is especially clean on yours too. Two things I've noticed - is that a stuck-on handle on the tailgate? Looks a bit weird. And I think your choke knob is on upside down, I think if you flip it the face will then be flush with the dashboard.
Keep up the good work!

You have similar criteria to mine when it comes to buying a daily! Practical for the family but not dull. Often on my radar:
Skoda Octavia vRS - I don't know how I've not had one yet because it seems a clear winner to me. Fast, good handling (mk2 or 3) and so much space inside. I did have a cooking Octavia once so I can vouch for handling and space.
Seat Leon Cupra or Cupra R - similar to above only not as well made, and not quite as spacious.
Mondeo with 2.5T Volvo engine? Bit new maybe. Or an older ST220?
Lexus GS300 - If you would trade sporty for wafty.
W124 Mercedes - Again not sporty but very practical and reliable. I had a 300TE which made a perfect family wagon.
BMW E46 - Which is actually what I had last time and currently. Seems to do everything. Fast, great handling, reliable, not the most spacious but just enough, and that noise!

I've just measured them and they are 10cm speakers. That's the outside diameter. The hole size looks like it would be more like 9cm.
These are actually from the rear doors of my 300TE, not the dashboard. Apologies for the confusion!

Is Asda stopping selling hot wheels? Only reason I ask that whilst on a quest for the Quattro sport and 190 cosworth, I’ve been into both my local branches, one hasn’t restocked in weeks and both are replacing them with looksy likey plastic tat models I was starting to think that too, then all of a sudden a few Asdas round my way put loads of fresh HW stock out. I had a field day! Sad news is though, I'm pretty sure Asda have stopped selling Matchbox.

I will check when I get home but I'm fairly sure these are 12cm (which is an odd size) and the 190E uses standard 10cm speakers.

For sale, one pair of original genuine rear door speakers taken from my 1990 300TE. Complete with wires to plug straight into the loom so no cutting of wires is needed. Good working condition. £20 posted? Not really sure what they're worth!

What gearbox have you gone for? Been thinking of doing this on my G60 for years for that same reason, it's too revvy on the motorway!

I don't actually listen to podcasts myself but I've heard good things about Overcrest by a friend of mine called Kris about cars, car culture, car geek stuff, news, the future, and the past of motoring.

I saw this on your instagram, it's wonderful! Interesting about the link to the NSX engine too. I never really noticed back in the day but the dash is quite reminiscent of a Metro!
