With the trailer up and running (so to speak) it was time to put it to work!!!
I wnted to shift the Hyundai Pony to my museum of old curse word. I spent a bit of time getting it running:
Anyway i took the carburettor off this to try and get it going. I thought it was scrap cos the throttle shaft was completely seized solid. After lots of farting about and a '$hit or bust' blowtorch attack I freed it off, removed it and polished it up with some fine wet and dry. I lobbed it all back together and connected it up to a can of fresh pez. Cranked away and wouold you believe, the 12,000 mile Mitsubishi engine fired right up and sounded FLIPPIN SWEET!!!!!!!! Its got some funny problem with the starter solenoid that makes the starter just randomly start cranking entirely of its own accord without warning, which makes fannying about under the bonnet an exciting pastime. But at least it can drive itself onto a trailer:
Eventually the time came, I had a ticket booked and off we went after work one day.
DOVER DOCKS: ACHIEVED. The East European lads taking advantage of the cheapo late-night crossings were well impressed (NOT)
Miserable Belgian pez station: ACHIEVED
500 miles later: BARN ACHIEVED!!!!!
Heres the Pony talking to its long-lost younger brother.
Anyway thats stashed away in the dry now where hopefully it will stay till I get to retirement age or whatever and I will have a chance to get into its galloping rot problems.
Now the small matter of getting home:
To cover the cost of this trip I decided to bring this B310 sunny home and flog it. I advertised it on here and had quite a flurry of interest, much to my surprise. ONe lad got in first, sounded serious and sent me a deposit so it was a goer. It was a very sound, unmolested car with crispy door bottoms letting the side down mainly.
When i got to France I realised that I could not find the flippin Carte grise for it which was a big problem. I rang the lad and he was still keen so I carried on regardless.
Luxembourg: ACHIEVED
Another dismal Belgian pez station
Return ferry
And finally going on the new owners truck at Woodhall services!!!
I did the NOVA declaration and gave the lad a reciept and whatnot and wished him luck in getting it registered. He seemed full of enthusiasm but I saw it on ebay about 6 weeks later still on the french plates. I don't think he made much money on it but wasn't seriously out of pocket either so no harm done. If nowt else it would be good for re-shelling a rotten UK example.
