Re Pseudonominous; 360cc & 10'x4' dimensional limits for tax reasons.
Edit: & it's still a 4-seater, which rules out any hopes of pretty proportions for human use.

I'll trot this one out again, though it's also a hatchback to confuse matters. Pillared 'coupé' hatchback? much more common (& sensible with 2.5" thick doors & sides). But sensible is boring.

I'm sure hinges are largely covered by No.Plate, but wouldn't want to hit a curb. Grille so obviously riveted to exposed opening flange not so nice either. Both work, but not beautiful.

I suppose I'd better chime in as another 116 Guiletta owner interested to see how you get on with it once you're able. Mine being a '80 model inherited as a cheap project of dads, yet to be run or be driven after at least a decade off the roads. Came with a 1974 Lancia Beta saloon & bought in memory of his (1966?) 105 Giulia super sedan bought nearly new & eventually replaced by a very disappointing new 1975 VW Golf. A later 105 Gtv coupe (1964) certainly failed to fill that niche.
Must admit it's not high on my list of priorities with a dozen other projects to work upon & a personal preference for the practicality of hatchback 'Coupes'. Still it is well sheltered & now looks vaguely respectable despite a poorly repaired rear panel we've filled & painted for the moment, de-trimmed & body coloured early metal bumpers & some late Giuietta 15' wheels, bonded in a 75 windscreen (few mm bigger all around than original). Still have to revise & make an adapter for a 'wood' rimmed 75 steering wheel to replace the hideous original but enthusiasm faded with the prospect of removing engine to replace rear mount & a multitude of other distractions. Styling certainly has a cheeky character borne of the difficult necessity to create a smaller/cheaper derrivatve/update of the Alfetta.

Certainly looks worthy of a decent effort at repainting, even if it's one panel at a time, given the way people can get silly paying $ for low mileage if it looks the part. Faded paints fine but many are scared enough of rust without reminding them.
& Congratulations, hopefully deserved.

That would have been depressing! Good to see it being addressed.

Good to finally see the subject of the thread And an interesting example of the breed. Rear jump-seats are a sight. Such a piecemeal body design I could certainly understand the multi-colour treatment, or atleast rear body roof & window area black like pickup canopy to separate it properly & look less bizzare. Certainly your style of unusual but versatile with character.

Seeing it without lights & grille makes me want to see it go early '70s there though with deeply recessed dual headlight sets & full-width grille.

I'm more surprised by the 2g Accord hatchback collection. Everybody's seen a Golf, if not a van derivative!

Good thing you knew what to look for amid the chaos to even identify the treasure. So congratulations... Does poor Vitesse bonnet mean a Bond estate with the scruffier Bond bonnet? Though having been stored vertically it may have not rusted in the usual places to make it more salvageable?

Certainly a popular model here for collecting and modifying with a wide variety of engine and brake upgrade options available when new, from other Honda and aftermarket. Acclaimed suspension layout lost from later models which also gained weight and height noticeably, setting earlier models apart desirably.
As you mentioned the late 1998 facelift for '99 model year brought very subtle changes to the headlight shape affecting, grille, bumpers, bonnet & wings compared to '96-98 models, though those were at least interchangeable with contemporary sedans unlike previous generations.
Large rear suspension bushings almost invariably need replacing but were shared with previous two generations of Civic and other contemporary models such as Integra & CRV so are readily available though polyurethane options popular with aftermarket suppliers often do not last well.
Unless it has blocked sunroof drains waterleaks aren't common & would have me investigating windscreen sealing if replaced or if fitter had damaged paint under rubber trim to cause rust, though I must admit the seam-seal used upon my '94 Civic had cracked & allowed water in at the rear of its roof.

Given it was still a quite large, wide & heavy car in spite of its styling, it's just as well the rotary engine didn't happen, nor the proposed VW engines.

The Pacer ...but it just looks awkward and just not American enough . Always the irony of the Pacer; that it was still VERY American underneath, trying to look ultra-modern European.. Further confused by the application of huge bumpers, wood trims & ugly grilles!

Sooo much more fun to be had from it than that given french coachbuilders in the late '30's!

About time I added more; Rubbed through Civics base coat trying to sand out orange peel so need to repaint side now too. Should have applied more clear at the time but was worried about falling evening temperatures & had to work next day.. Though I must admit some of the paint runs were still visible after sanding them flat, so probably needed doing anyway. Also decided I wanted to paint Civics side skirts & rear roof spoiler rather than leaving them raw plastic, another excuse delaying more painting as rear spoiler has warped & rippled, so I'd rather make a new one to eliminate heavy steel mounting piece underneath & in front of it, & incorporate full width LED light strip. First effort making one from fiberglass is not looking great though & think I should have started with alloy or alloy/plastic signage panel for good/easy surface finish. Finally came across some Integra DC4 front knuckles & hubs @ wreckers (SR-R {&L} 14N cast i.d. Basic EG Civic are 13N.) so grabbed those to ensure fit wishbone geometry remained as Honda intended, rather than the EK Civic ones I'd fitted earlier. Had hoped to put them on my DC2 while I pushed out it's frt wheel bearings but realised it's ABS sensor mounting weren't drilled & threaded for use (cheaper model) so gave up upon that job for a bit longer. Also fitted engine bay blingy bits.. after sanding down gaudy polished finish of chassis brace & adding aftermarket Mugen badge in the recess intended for some American branding. Ostentatiously large induction pipe could do with lengthening 50-70mm so I could add vertical separation between filter & engine bay. I'm also tempted to paint it's textured surface silver-grey to match cam-cover.. or fill & carbon fibre wrap ?... favouring silver grey.
