Glad to see you got rid of the Twin and Earth, vehicles should always be stranded cable. Another vote for the Splitcharge website great service Thanks, I see people using it all the time. Stranded cable should be used in all vehicles cars, campers and boats etc. Dangerous wiring is the most common problem thats I see on campers and boats. I rewired a mercedes camper a few weeks back were the wiring ran through a double skinned void in a wardrobe wall with unfused feeds going from the battery nearly 8 ft to the control panel with fuses behind a wooden panel. There had been a short on the wiring had overheated for around a 8ft section, the owner was very lucky that there hadn't been a fire. I also regularly see cable of the wrong size and incorrect fuse ratings or no fuses at all and am surprised that more vehicles don't do up in flames. Cheers - mike

Hi all had a steady day on the camper today. I went over to grimsby for some foam, there seems to be a shortage at the moment, not sure why. I finessed the fitting of the boards and added some supports and stiffeners to the units. The first to cushions are done bar some tidying up underneath and tomorrow should see the rest done. Cheers - mike

I'm looking for a split charger for my caddy so I can put in a second battery for an inverter, any recommendations? Thanks splitcharge.co.uk sell everything you need. You need a fuse before the feed into the split charge relay and one just before the leisure battery. I usually fit a 140 amp relay and a pair of 12v 60amp trips. Cheers - mike

hi all had a steady day and the camper today. The mains hookup and 12v set up are now finished and working. I have made a mount / shelf unit for the side of the van so I can fit the 240v outlet and the switch for the lights. I have to go over to Grimsby tomorrow to sort out some foam for the upholstery as my on-line supplier has let me down. Cheers - mike

Hi all got some time on this today. Both of the drawers are made and fitted although the runners will need adjusting. I have made the bases for the cushions and am just awaiting the memory foam to be delivered so that I can do the upholstery. Cheers - mike

Hi all I have just started the rebuild of a Peugeot Partner camper. Spent the afternoon stripping out the existing units and conversion. The wiring for the mains hookup and 12v system was in a terrible state. The hole for the mains inlet looked as though it had been cut with a blunt can opener and the wiring was solid cored 5 amp light cable so totally unsuitable for this application and the whole 240v system was un fused. I removed the mains inlet, straightened out the hole and cleaned it up as best I could before giving the area a coat of stone guard before refitting it with decent 16 amp cable. The old mains outlet will be replaced with one with and rcd. I wont get much done tomorrow as I have a Mercedes camper coming to have all the 12v system rewired and upgraded. Cheers - mike

Hi all Just about finished this one, have got the heater control panel to fit and the table mount (just waiting for the correct screws to arrive). It will then have a good clean and be ready to go. I should be starting a Peugeot Partner later so no rest for the wicked! Cheers - mike

hi there,
always buy a van and either convert it yourself or have it converted. A conversion on a NV200 would start at around £5000

Have you come across a decent transit connect conversion? I quite like the squareness of the early high roof model and the modern fiesta sporty look of the newer shape..I think plus points are good regarding buying price and options of mods..bad points rust!! Any thoughts? Hi there I have supplied a few removable camper units for people with transit connects but not done a full conversion. There are a few transit connect campers about so they can be done. The only downside of these small campers is that you really need an awning with them to be comfortable. My build for next week is on a Peugeot Partner so will set up a blog for that. Not sure yet if its going to be a removable conversion or a fixed one though. Cheers - mike

I tend to avoind anything with a ford bad as they tend to be pretty rusty by the time they are 10 years old. Transits are ok to convert as they are quite boxy.

hi all not the best of days for building campers as the weather has been foul and is still getting worse. The roof on my garage has been flexing up and down and the up and over door keeps opening itself. Anyways still got a bit done. I have made and fitted a door to the lower unit, made and fitted the front half of the ceiling and installed the 240v socket plus a few buts of finessing here and there. Cheers - mike

Hi nick,
There aren't any usable cavities under the floor on a Doblo and the chassis / support structure is quite extensive. I have fitted heaters and water tanks under other vehicles such Vivaro's to free up internal space but as this is a budget build with a specific spec from the owner there's not the budget to do to much.
There will be a unit on the drivers side which will house the leisure battery and other electrical equipment.
Cheers - mike

hi all,
had a good day on the camper today. The top cupboard is now finished and fitted for good and I have started the carpet lining.
I also spent some time sorting out a location for the diesel heater. The only place that's available is in the center of the floor under the rock and roll bed so I will need to change the design of the kick board on the seat as usually its mounted to the moving part of the seat.
No pics today as I had lost the sunlight before I finished.
Cheers - mike

there's a 12mm ply floor screwed down to the ribbed van floor and then the altro flooring goes on top.

Hi all, had a steady day working on fitting the seat and making the overhead cupboards. Fitting the seat was a bit fiddly as there's no spare room at all so no tolerance. The overhead cupboards have been a bit of a challenge too as nothings straight in the van, the roof, sides and cant rails are all curved. Anyways, the carcass and doors are done and temporarily mounted, I have the base to make in the morning and they will be done. I will then need to take them down so I can do the carpet lining. I should make a start on the base units tomorrow all being well, I need to find space for the leisure battery and diesel heater. The aren't many options for the heater as the inlet and exhaust have to pass through the floor and there's lots of chassis rails and support to work around. I may also modify the heater set up from the last few I have done as the fuel pumps tend to be quite noisy so I may mount it under the van or in an insulated enclosure. Cheers - mike

Hi all, I didn't get a lot done on Monday. Spent most of the day looking after my grandson. Had a good day today though. I went over to darkest Lancashire to collect the rock and roll bed. I had it custom made to fit this van so always a bit nervous when it comes to actually trying it for fit. I have also made up the templates for the top cupboard so will be getting on with that tomorrow. Cheers - mike
