Hup! No pics at the moment, but my brewing is going from strength to strength. I'm doing BIAB brews once or twice a month and have been sharing amongst friends for constructive criticism. I don't think I've had a bad review yet from Mystery Machine, crossbones, smellyferret, Rich606, brawr or jrevillug so something is going right. Possibly a couple others I can't remember? Visitors rarely leave without a bottle or two! I'm pleased to say that it has all been very positive though I am finding the limits of my current setup in terms of size and controlability far more often than I'd like. The Gathering beer gift list appears to be huge (who'd have thought people like free beer, eh?). There are two 'request' brews being done- one an Anglo-American IPA and one Weiss I've just done the dry hop addition on the IPA and won't be doing the Weiss until nearer the time as they tend to be nicer fairly young. I've dug this up as I'm getting really interested in the idea of playing with wild yeasts and have bought some Agar today to make some discs in the bottom of jam jars I'll place about for a couple hours to hopefully culture something cool to use in a secondary fermentation to make a sour beer. Don't suppose anyone else is daft enough to have tried it?

Quite literally the first I clicked on on ebay. No idea how that stacks in terms of price or quality or if they are a reputable supplier. Shows they are easily available though clicky

You gotta sleep with a marshall :/ some of them are handsome though. Assuming it's the same as last year It's first come, first served on the day with a morning session, and then the afternoon session being sold as a separate session/batch later in the morning. Last year, as many, if not more people than there were spaces were queing for the afternoon session before the ticket office opened. Don't come pinning your hopes on getting up the hill, and certainly don't be disappointed if you aren't enough to get there early enough- the show is simply amazing anyway

Iveco Sofim ticks all of those boxes. KFW and Dez are both fans IIRC so there's a bit of knowledge about here for them as well as elsewhere online.

I don't think I'm alone in saying this is one of my favourite cars on Retro Rides. I'm really happy to hear it's back on the road

Will have to hunt Ben.... its going to be something like that! Either that or Ill have to work harder at the scary wiring on this car. (When soldering the fuel pump wire, I discovered a bunch of 6 or 7 wires that had just been cut! I taped the ends up to prevent shorting and ignored them as everything else worked on the car..... at the time! I don't even know what a fusible link looks like heh Like a bit of wire that burns out easily

I did then however, whilst trying to shut a disobedient electric window, kill all the electrics. Ive checked every fuse and they are all fine, soo I have no idea whats going on there..... more investigation needed! Any fusible links lurking in the engine bay? Same problem has had me stumped before

Thanks Kev! The internet says there are sprung clips either side of the bezel in front of the cluster that you get at with a flat bladed screwdriver. Should then be some visible screws and 'simply pulls out'. like thisEDIT: I believe mine is a Yazaki one, like so.. Don't worry about it if it appears to be VDO. Also, given that you're fragging it, I imagine you will be able to remove the bezel with a little less finesse and a little more hammer if necessary. I owe you some cider

Thanks guys. I'm on the hunt for another instrument cluster anyway but I'll definitely look at repair (thank you James!) if nothing pops up cheap. It's going to be pressed straight into daily service so anything that can be done as a quick swap will be favoured over faffing with soldering irons and no guarantee of success at the end of it.

Hi,
The speedo on my 940 is faulty and I don't relish the thought of having to fix it. Anyone selling an instrument cluster for a petrol 940? Don't mind if turbo or not, I'll just swap the speedo bit over.
Cheers
Ben

I haven't driven it anywhere yet.. but a quick glance suggests that it has been fairly well spec'd. Heated front seats, electric (heated) mirrors, steel sunroof, factory roof bars and it either came with, or has been retrofitted with a 7 seat conversion I need to look into what the deal is with these seats and current laws regarding children/booster seats. My boy is too small to use them at the moment but in a couple years he'll be just right for chucking in the boot! Areas in need of attention, in no particular order.. The diff appears to be pretty wet. Don't know how much it is actually leaking yet All of the paint appears to have fallen off of the frontmost crossmember and it's gone pretty manky. I wonder whether it's had leaking coolant sat against it for a period of time. Will just kurust and repaint it if it isn't too bad This headlamp has a stonechip that has gone right through so it's all full of condensation. Secondhand replacements look to be cheap enough and easy to come by. Both the indicator/DRL units are milkier than a pint of semi-skimmed Stuff not pictured. Steve tells me that when he drove it over, the speedo ranged from erratic to not working at all. The odometer still works so the sensor/sender is working fine. Googling tells me that it's a common fault on this model year and that capacitors go pop. I'm not good at electronics so a replacement set of clocks is most likely. Aux belts could do with tightening up The radio doesn't turn on. Not investigated at all yet. There's an a small oil leak from what appears to be the front crank oil seal. I'll keep an eye and if it's bad or worsening, then I'll address it a bit quicker than waiting until I could be arsed to do the cambelt. Looking forward to driving this

I've been bouncing about in rubbish cars for a little while and fancied getting something a bit nicer again.. A chance suggestion by SmellyFerret on Facebook led to me finding out that Crossbones still had a Volvo 940 surplus to requirements. Being an absolute gent, Steve has sold it to me for an undisclosed-but-not-much-at-all sum and hasn't even taken full payment for it yet. Please excuse shoddy phone pics taken on my drive! It certainly isn't perfect, but it isn't bad at all. Don't expect wild plans, just general improvement and minor mods leaning toward economy. I've got more pics showing the good, bad and ugly but I'll add those later

Have a measure of the pcd. I'm going to guess at 4" though, so it should be easy to pick up a pair of mini wheels or something Seems likely - think that size is early Metro. That was my best guess too. Looks like we was right

That's incredibly subjective. I've owned two cars I've completely loved and considered amazing. Neither were anything special in a conventional sense. This is one of them

That Smart does look wrapped. It's almost impossible to get large pieces of paper to conform to compound curves. ...decoupage... I was just going to mention that in a wider arts and crafts sort definition, this would be called decoupage, so probably wort searching under that as well for more inspiration

This is the one with the springs cut just a tad, isn't it? I'm not surprised they haven't lasted given the ride height to be honest. PlusOne for going to standard shocks and springs
