Having not been on here for quite a while because my kids got me into other things while off work during COVID, i looked in to see what i missed. Having been in contact with Glenn through facebook previously, i worked out who the seller was and was happy to jump in, so i am now the new owner of this, the 5th Mondeo that i currently own. Just need to get it back down to 4 again soon! Arabest, Geoff.

Currently have 4 cars on 2 separate policies. My Fiesta the wife uses is on its own policy and my Mondeos are on an Aviva multi car policy. Not 100% happy with the way the policy changes are made as, although i can change the insured car, i cant cancel a car online and have to contact them if i sell one without a replacement lined up.

The mk6 Escort RS2000 always got a kicking from every angle. But truth be told these are brilliant cars for B road blasts. I think the biggest problem for this car was living in the shadow of the Escort Cosworth and as a result the “purests” hated it or didn’t want to like it. The reason the Mk6 was unloved was the mk5 got such a slating in the press that the Mk6 had no chance of making an impression. Having had 2 Mk5s, I don't think the slating they were given was fully justified, although the Kent and CVH derived engines should have been left in the past where they belonged! All the very best, Geoff.

Hello all, I think there is a clue somewhere as to my contribution! I thank the OP for his contribution and would like to raise him the 1996-2001 Mondeo Mk2, but i am biased. Thanks to a certain T. Blair, these cars have bit of an issue with image thanks to comments made. However, if you can see past the Mondeo Man badge, i think someone open minded enough could see the potential in them. This is my 2lt Ghia X hatch, and although it is a heap, it is the comfiest car i have driven. Still has a good turn of speed and can handle a trip to IKEA, or a parts run to support the other 2. My pride and joy! Another 2lt Ghia X but in saloon form. Dropped 30mm has turned an already well regarded chassis into a fantastic car to drive. I didnt want a v6 when i started the search that lead to the saloon, but when this ST24 in the right colour popped up and i drove it, i couldnt resist! Needs some work, but Ford still have parts, motor factors have the usual consumables, and they are probably the last of the cars that you can still work on and work out how to fix it without a computer. Some models are becoming rare, and Ford Tax is starting to hit the ST24 and ST200, but the Zetec, Zetec S, Ghia and Ghia X are definitely in the unsung hero category! All the very best, Geoff.

Thanks for comments guys. I know the wheels wont be to everyone's taste and the stickers etc want coming off, but realy don't have time on my hands at the moment- hence the sale. Assume you must have checked out its mot history Geoff? I havent looked at its mot history, but havent seen any signs of rust or welding to either sill. I will take a look at both sills to check for repairs for you tomorrow. Off the top of my head i think the car is showing 200,000 miles. Not sure on the size of the wheels either, the wheels are prob a bit of a 'marmite' topic, love it or hate them. Cheers, Matt Matt, Yes i did check the MOT history like i hope that everyone does, and it does show that its had 2 corrosion failures. The wheels screamed at me as wrong, and seen as they look to be wearing 195/60/15 tyres, i was right as these come out the wrapper wearing 17" wheels. Its not for me, but good luck, Geoff.

I am on the lookout for an ST200 and wonder how the sill was repaired at last MOT?
What miles has it done?
What size are those wheels? All the very best, Geoff.

I was looking for something different through the year and very nearly went looking for a ZS or ZT. What discouraged me was something about timing belts being difficult to change on the v6 and problems with the BMW diesels. Had a feeling there was some mis-information skewed by rose tinted specs going on and an ST24 turned up anyway! All the very best, Geoff. The only thing I will say is, going by what happened with our 2.5, never neglect the cooling system. Everyone says HGs go on Duratecs but that is nonsense. Alot of them go due to the cooling system being semi-marginal when not quite right, so a small leak here and there won't really cut it and neither will blocked radiator, which happens more often than you think with anything but Ford's own 10 year coolant being used - you may get away with Comma Glytasyn G30. The 2.5 was an nightmare on most levels due to it just having Radweld chucked into it; that car went on to have 3 engines as a result; first one had scrap heads due to severe overheating (it pulled the seats into the head; thus it had serious VSR issues), and then we chased our tales changing almost every part of the cooling system over the next year. Then next owner changed the engine when it was found that actually the top vent hose had blocked, due to previously K-Seal and Radweld being used by the PO. The 3.0 was a much better car as a result of the misfortunes we had with the 2.5, and it went on very well to 262k until someone rear ended it. Anyway, I got carried away, but I do have a soft spot for the Duratec V6s. Sorry to keep the thread drift going! There are 2 design flaws as well, with plastic pump impellers along with a short route from cylinder wall to the outside world at cylinder 1&6! Had a V6 Ghia X that i did the HGs on years ago, more than likely caused by a pump failure that caused the HG failure at cyl 1. Hopefully once spring gets here, i will get through the ST as i know it needs a few things and seen as i am fitting a metal impeller water pump, will be changing the coolant as well. All the very best, Geoff.

Belated thanks for putting that wheel chart up, will help if i ever get back into a Gal.
The I4 engine is to me one of the best Ford engines out there. Had a Sierra with the 2lt that was on 130k plus and still like a new engine, then my 2.3 Gal was passing through 167k when we finally decided it was time to move on. Only engine issue was the ignition coils which i replaced regularly early doors, then never again after i left the spark plug cover off!

Had a Mk1 Ph1 2.3 Gal and absolutely loved it. Bought with 96k on it and set about putting another 80k taking the family all over the UK and into France.
Only issue i had was a relay under the drivers dash that went twice, hazy memory it was relay 30 and was a pita to change!
On PCD, i know my Ph1 was VAG PCD as i bought replacement steels from the local VW dealers at half the Fraud price, but have this memory from Galaxy Forums that the Ph2 changed to Ford PCD. Waiting patiently to see if i was fed duff gen! All the best, Geoff.

Although i seem to have made a mistake in buying 3 mk2 Mondeo that don't need lots of work, for now, any tinkering consists of quickly check weather/personal fitness to carry out task/batheredness/maw n paw at home, then Nah, cannae be bathered! All the very best, Geoff.

New cars have there place If you live in say a flat and have no tools or anyway to maintain an older car then you have no choice it's not for you If your a family person with kids and safety is a priority again an old car is not for you In the same way I don't expect an old age pensioner or disabled person to be in a position where they can maintain an old car but they could always take it to someone else! Better or worse?? It really depends on the person and the needs But il be sticking with the old stuff 👍 This made me smile as, ok i have the tools, but i live in a flat, a family person with kids and grandkid, so safety has its place and i currently own 3 Mk2 Mondeos. Guys at work ask why i don't just cash em all in and go and buy one new car, until i ask them what they are paying each month and i show them what my cars cost me! Like others have said, cars around the late 90s, early 00s, are on the cusp of still being simple enough to work on while starting to use engine management to control things. Driving my saloon and ST24 still puts a smile on my face when needed and are comfy enough to take on a 6 hour journey with ease. But saying all that, my next purchase will more than likely be a modern to replace my wifes Fiesta and its between the new Focus and Kia Ceed! All the very best, Geoff.

Mondeo and V70 (both 2007 on), V60 and S-Max share the same platform. The Mondeo platform through the years has a fair bit to answer for. I can add the X-type Jag, and bringing 2 of them together created the platform for the early Galaxy/Sharan/Alhambra. Gonna have to look more into that Focus platform/4x4 thing though! All the very best, Geoff.

Best race ive seen in a long time!
But it was luck that handed the race to Lewis and it was Leclerc and Verstappen who provided most of the thrills. Should have more races like that! All the very best, Geoff.

On a slight tangent and more of an open question to the more mature posters here. Knee pain - is this just what happens when you start getting on? I'm 33 now, I was really fat as a kid and a teen which certainly didn't help matters but I'm pretty slim these days and plenty active. If I sit down for more than a few minutes with my knees bent at any sort of angle (riding a motorcycle is a good example and one of the many reasons I got shot of my old Triumph Sprint ), when I come to move my legs again, my knees have gone stiff and hurt like green curse word to get going again. Is this just what happens? 48 and had knee trouble for more years than i can remember. Always been active as my job means i have to maintain a level of fitness, age has meant i struggle a wee bit every year now. For me cycling worked for a year, but after a winter break, i thought i could start off from where i left off then really did my left knee in! Took a few years to really get over that and did enough to keep the fitness where i needed it until a couple of years ago where i became less active out of work. Last October after 2 or 3 false starts in the gym at work, i went and did my right knee in, an injury that wasnt gonna get better by self medicating. What helped me was some strong painkillers, work provided physio, then a number of sessions with the NHS, which is what i would encourage you to seek, which in my area i can request by self referral. Using the bike, rowing machine and eventually the cross trainer at the works gym then backed that up and i was off painkillers after 6 month. The net result is my 16yo son who is seeking a future in the motor industry, now has a Mondeo project of his own that i can easily help him with. All the very best, Geoff.

I cant say that my first car, well Mk2 Escort Van was the one i really wanted, but was there at the time. Therefore not having a true love for that i cannot say ive ever thought about what i would do with it, but there is so much that has been done with Mk2 Escorts that i cant say i could do something radically different.
Cars 2/4/5/6/7/8/10/11 i mostly did enjoy owning and would think about resto-modding. All follow a similar theme being Ford FWD so what works for the Mk1 Fiesta, will work for the Escort 3/Orion 1, then onto the Escort 5/Orion 3 and even into my current Mk2 Mondeos.
Obviously each one would have adaptations to fit bits to each vehicle, but the bodies would be restored to better than factory and interiors as good as can be but still standard. Engines would be Ecoboost with brakes, suspension and wheels to match the power, but in a way to create a bit of a sleeper! Would also try to include ABS and things like Cruise Control to see it it could be done.
And as the op has said money no object,
Mk 1 Fiesta with 1.0 Ecoboost Mk 1 Orion with 1.5 Ecoboost Mk 3 Orion with 1.6 Ecoboost Mk 2 Mondeo with 2.0 Ecoboost

For the bullbar, initially thought Civil use TACR2 Fire Truck, similar but not that. Then i remember picking out a Seagull from a one off Land Rover Defender Fire Truck(straight 6 fun!) i had the pleasure of driving in the 90s. Very similar to the one above, but slightly bigger. Still in use at Glenrothes with picture on flikr. All the very best, Geoff.

I am delving into the depths of things i used to know here but i remember Granadas had the same engine and required mods to fit Galaxys. I would think it was easier making the Galaxy fit RWD. I think that Mk5 RS2000s were modded using a 2.3 block with the RS2000 head, and i think there was a Max Power featured Galaxy with a 2.3 block/RS2000 head that was turboed via a Nissan 200SX exhaust manifold. Wonder how that would go in an old skool Scort? All the very best, Geoff.

Needs dropped for a start, as for alloys, sure i bought new steels from the local VW dealership that were 112 pcd, not the Ford 108 pcd. Opens up a whole range of something a wee bit different! Geoff

Count Panda, you may just have caused me to revisit owning a Gal like that one!
Had an R plate 2.3 that we took everywhere in the UK and beyond, and maybe 2 trips too far! It kept on coming back for more with the only thing that ever went wrong being the same relay twice. Geoff.
