Nope. 750kg+ needs brakes.
Argue with vosa if you want but I'd rather not. Also it's clearly very dangerous for a trailer of that weight not to be braked. See A frame accidents..

The main reason i would suggest R-tec over other brands is their aftercare. Yeh it may only have a 5 year warrantee but if it does break 6 years in you will still get it fixed easily. 2nd hand machine off eBay or more obscure cheaper brand, well you might get it fixed but be prepared for some annoyance in sorting it out.

If you can't afford an R-tec then buy a second hand transformer machine off ebay or somewhere. What's important is to avoid 'hobby migs' make sure it's in the 160-220amp range 240v, has a proper euro torch and takes a full roll of wire and you can't go too far wrong. Ofcourse there's always the chance somone will palm you off with a dud buying second hand but if you can't afford a decent new welder then it's your only viable option. DO NOT be tempted to by somthing new and cheap amoned at the hobby market. If it's less than the R-Tec it's going to be curse word. There's a reason they are cheap.

TFR is just a caustic solution (probably just sodium hydroxide) and soap. Its cheaper to just make your own tbh! (Sodium hydroxide is like 40 quid for 25kg) Its effective on some natural oils but other synthetics it might not touch. A lot of 'water based' degreasers you see now are based on a similar solution and that's why they are curse word compared to traditional solvents!
Do be aware that it will essentially dissolve aluminium yes but its still useful for cleaning aluminium if you don't mind it being slightly etched. You can quite safely wash a ally cylinder head in a caustic solution for example but just make sure the stuff is some what diluted, not too hot and you ventilate the area well. Oh and wash it off afterwards with clean water or you will come back to a load of aluminium hydroxide powder on the surface. For example I would spray the engine bay of my daily with caustic before pressure washing and it brings up the aluminium components very clean

It doesn't need an MOT. Just fix what's wrong with it and be happy. I 100% agree with this, i’m a trainee Veh Mech and my dad has been one for 35 Years and even had a Cavalier. I understand the rule of MOT Exemptions gives a responsibility to the Owner to maintain it and that some probably don’t just because it’s exempt. I’ve only owned it since Aug 2022 and its history is rough in areas but it’s not like that anymore, i’ve worked hard and put a lot of money into it already and i still love the thing. I respect criticism but find it rather weird when people are spying on its mot history to then come back at me as though it’s my problem haha Don't worry about it, theres lots of people on vehicle forums that like to 'have an opinion' whether its educated or not, theres always someone out there telling you your doing it wrong. Having an MOT makes no difference to your responsibility for having to ensure your car is maintained and road worthy. Its literally just a bureaucratic box that we're made to tick to keep mechanics in jobs. From the second you leave the testing station its back to being 100% your responsibility. What it boils down to is, buying a car, checking it over thoroughly and fixing any dangerous faults before driving. Rolling project is fine but not if its got dangerous faults. (and i don't mean MOT dangerous faults, some of which arnt actually dangerous, i mean real dangerous faults) If you cant do that yourself then pay a man to do it sure but don't take it for an MOT and think thats a done deal as MOT testers are even allowed to check properly for many dangerous faults and many only care if its going to get them a job at the end of it! As for the wheels id imagine it feels curse word because the big balloon tyres they fitted to cars in the 70s just make them feel like you are driving a bowl of jelly.. It helps firm up the ride if you fit slightly stretched tyres or even better lower profile but obviously lower profile comes with other issues such as gear ratios etc. Deffo make sure they are all pointing in the right direction too tho of course!

You could try Carl from force racing and see if he has any rims that would suit. He can be hard to get hold of but has sorted me out with spinnings to do wheel mods before.
One thing you will notice is the rims you need don't include a 'well' for fitting the tyre. This means you have to assemble the rim around the tyre rather than fitting with a machine. It's not usually a problem unless you want to run tyres that are too wide for the rims.
That's also the reason you will see 3 peice split rim conversions always increase the wheel diameter. There's usually just not enough meat in the wheel to machine away to get a normal outer rim on there so peolel just go a size bigger.
Silicone sealant is standard for assembling split rims. You don't need O-rings.

Recommended rim width for 175/13 tyres is 5 - 6” Anything wider and you start to compromise tyre grip and performance. There is a reason that manufacturers state recommended rim widths :-) There's also a reason why racers run tyres on far wider rims rather the manufacturer ever suggested..

Phosphoric acid wont dissolve good steel. It can only dissolve the oxide. (ie. rust)
My only thought with wallpaper paste is what a gloopy mess it will leave behind afterwards but I guess you can use it then clean the curse word off with more phosphoric. Avoid washing off with water if you can.

Can you not take a 2wd LT77 (sherpa, SD1, TR7) and bolt the short defender 200tdi bell housing on it? No need. If you get the diesel version of the LDV box it will fit a 200tdi. My truck is currently a petrol tho which has a different bellhousing and input.

Random trivia moment.. I've spent the last 10 years not just working in the same factory but pretty much on the exact same floor area where all these boxes were manufactured so its extra annoying i don't know all this stuff.. I did try asking around but I think everyone who worked on the old pre Tata drive train stuff is long retired now!
