Bulkheads on old VW and Audi`s are spotwelded on in a silly way, it might be kinda loose, and thus messing with the clutch It's not that (that I have ever seen). The bulkhead is effectively just a sheet of 1mm or so steel and a clutch cable would act quite nicely as a round file as it goes to and fro through it. Or that (usually). As can be seen from the piccy somebody posted, vast majority of the time there are actual cracks/splits through the bulkhead emanating(sp?) from the D shaped hole. I will get a piccy from the enginebay side tomorrow - the above shot is looking up behind the dash from teh footwell.

Dizzy shaft seal? Didn't think they had one!?! Not gonna be a great problem if it has got one and it's failed.
Could stick a aux new belt on anyway, they are cheap from GSF/ECP and dead esy to change yourself.
Exhaust... who knows? I you can't hear it blowing then it's not a problem 'til MOT time at worst.
The clutches on Rocco generally seem heavy. The bulhead suffers from some kind of fatigue and often corrosion causing cracking - it's a 'when' not 'if'. You can see it start happening usually, and another giveaway is the pedal getting (even) heavier as the cable sits at an angle so cutting through the rubber seat/bung thing. I could take a piccy of my scala with the same problem if you need something to compare against.

Audi 4.2 V8 & FWD box driving the rear wheels.......Will need a completely custom rear IRS but then again, so will pretty much anything else (or at least a solid axle). Nah, just use a 80/90 subframe and struts/wishones - Use a manual FWD 'box which will mount onto the subframe & fit the driveshalft, just leaving the 'front' engine mounts, and top strut mounts

CA18DET has too much power.. Blasphemy! Blesphemy! Burn the unbeliever! No... really, I see what you are saying I supercharging out of the equation? Less messing with the exhaust side ie no custom ehaust manifold. One of those Mini ones would seem about right, and I have heard a rumour about somebody making custom ali inlets/outlets etc for them (edit for quoting error)

I know it's not answering the question... but if you are thinking of putting a CA16DE engine & 'box in anyway, couldn't you go a bit further and use a CA18DET (c/w it's turbo and matching management etc) instead?

WTF? I have just wasted about 15 minutes of my life looking through these sad f***s posts. This guy has 60 odd reports - and at least 90% of them are about other vehicles (and half of those HGVs it seems) tailgating between one (yeah right) and three feet behind him... then overtaking and cutting in leaving 2 to 3 feet. This has happened to this one driver 50+ times since February this year. What a load of sh1t! www.betterdrivingplease.com/passparameters.asp?Topic=NewSearch&SearchUserName=Roblives&AllTypes=trueWith no evidence couldn't this be slander? (or whatever the written version is).

FFS indeed.
And all these people are perfect drivers of course. Let him without sin and all that.
EG...
"Came speeding up behind me in the outside lane then undertook me and swerved back into the outside lane!"
Firstly: Speeding as in going fast? (Relative to poster's "40mph is quite enough thankyou" speed maybe?) Or actually breaking the speed limit? (poster's speedo is calibrated is it?)
Secondly: If he had time to do all that, why was the poster in the outside lane at all?
FFS indeed.

Excellent work BC, thanks. Close to beating a 540, and did beat a XR6, MR2 and a turbo Metro - pleased with the way the car goes for about 130bhp and 1300kg (plus lardarrse driver)

That isn't a boulder, it's the concrete base from the safety fence posts - that should NOT happen!
Like the other posts visible, it should have folded flat, releasing the corrugated section to 'catch' the vehicle and gently redirect the vehicle into the carriageway.
I suspect somebody f***ed up the installation there... scary.

EDIT: Directed at Trg1984: A 1600 will break 100bhp with work, but when the 1800s and 2 litres are the same/similar block why bother? From experience you can get the 1800 carb (90bhp std) up to 120-125 with Weber, cam, decent head and exhaust. Should see 130 with better head or 2 litre bottom end, maybe 135-140 with both. But it will all cost you. Whereas the 1800 injection starts at 112bhp, so why bother with f***ing about with the 1600 carb?

ive definately got the more power bug, looking at mk2 golfs 1.6, I know these arent gonna be flying machines but compared to a 1.3 mini. itl be a fair bit quicker. I wouldn't bet on it - you know the VW carb'ed 1600 only makes 75bhp? And they aint light cars, even with 'bike' bits I imagine.

I liked my Quattro before Saturday. I love long time post-sprint As you would be hard-pressed to pay more than £500 for one if you tried, I am reconsidering my previous plans to build a track day Scirocco. Dump some weight (I think it's >1500kg ready to go at the moment!), a tweak or two to tame the understeer and I think it could be a real weapon. Just need to find 70bhp* to be really happy What I never thought of on Saturday was pressing the rear diff lock for hairpin hilarity * Audi 200 turbo engine please... although I have this daft idea for a 2550cc 20v N/A engine on 5 bike throttle bodies... just how good would that sound.
