I planned to stash these away for a future 190e project but I've concluded I've got too much on my plate at the minute and need to free up some space. These are R129 Mercedes SL 5x112 wheels 16 x 8J offset ET34 - part number 129 400 01 02. These look excellent fitted to Mercedes 190e. These wheels were supplied as original equipment by Mercedes on the R129 300SL, 500SL, SL320 and SL500 and are the same width and offset as those originally fitted to the 190e 2.5 16v Cosworth. The wheels are in used condition, the paint has bubbled up on all the wheels so they'll need a refurb. I can provide details of a place in Preston that will dip and powder coat them for £200 for the set. SOLD

Preston bus station car park one that has really divided local public opinion, with many calling for its demolition. Built in 1968/9 in the Brutalist style it has fended off 2 attempts at demolition and been recognised for its form, having a multi million pound refurbishment, in part due to being awarded grade II listed status in 2013. I've only ever visited when the stairwells smelt of wee, but I definitely get the syle of the place. And the artists impression of it post refurbishment with the new development opposite, which I'm not so sure about:

I really didn’t want to do this but my wife says I have too many cars and irritatingly, this time she’s right. I need to move this on to free up some cash to spend on my longer-term projects. This is my 1990 Mercedes 190e automatic. It’s done 97500 miles and is MOT’d until 8th September 2017. I have a pretty comprehensive history with the car and quite a few receipts for jobs I’ve done. I’ll also throw in the stockpile of parts that I’ve acquired with the sale for the new owner. The car has been my daily driver for the last year and I’ve actually owned it twice, having first bought it in late 2014. It’s been a fantastic daily driver, cruises well on the motorway and does the school run with me every day with no fuss at all. I took it to France on a road trip in 2015 and it covered over 1000 miles in a weekend without a hitch. There are a few marks around the body but nothing horrendous, I’ve taken some photos of the worst bits that I can share if you are interested. Underneath the car is rock solid, there is no sign of rust or previous welding in any of the common rust traps underneath. I’ve photographed these too. It’s lowered on a set of GSF lowering springs minus 2 coils on the back and one on the front. It rides really well, but the tester advised on the rear shocks on the last test as they’re not leaking but could do with changing. It’s sitting on staggered 15” 15 hole Mercedes wheels, 7J ET25 rears and 6.5J ET49 fronts as I recall. If you wanted to put the car back to standard I’ll also throw in the stock springs it came on and a set of stock steels with nearly new Michelin energy tyres and the factory flat wheel trims. Parts wise, I’ve photographed some of it but there is a fair bit more. Other than that photographed, there’s a box full of screws/clips/bolts/switches and bits of trim. There’s also a set of factory Mercedes roof bars, a spare back bumper with a tow bar that I'd planned to fit. I’ve also got a genuine Mercedes foam bonnet pad that I’ve never got round to fitting. Cheers.

I really didn’t want to do this, but with 4 cars on the fleet, 3 of which are long term projects I need to reassess and plough some money into getting my ‘other’ cars on the road. This is the best 190 I’ve had, it’s been 100% dependable and has ferried me and my family all over the UK and into Europe in the last 10 months. So this is a 2.0 8 valve automatic, in pearl grey metallic with just over 93,000 miles from new, loads of history and a fully stamped service book to back it up. Runs and drives really well, I’m getting mid 30s mpg out of it on mixed round town and motorway driving. I took the car over to Europe last month, completed over 700 miles in 3 days through Belgium and France without missing a beat, loaded up with beer, wine and cheese on the way back. The inside is clean and presentable, not immaculate but nothing a wet vac wouldn’t sort out. All the seats and door cards are in great condition and it has Mercedes rubber floor mats up front. I’ve fitted upgraded JBL speakers to the dash top and the original Blaupunkt ones are working well in the hat rack. I have fitted a full height zebrano ‘taxi’ centre console to the car which is in good condition. I have also fitted an extra factory sound deadening blanket behind the rear seat back which has made a real difference in the cabin. All the electrics work as they should and I have also properly repaired the wiring between the b pillar and the rear doors so the rear windows both work perfectly. The outside is generally very clean, one or two minor marks here and there, two very minor areas of surface bubbling , one at the top of a rear sacco panel, another very small area on the leading edge of the bonnet, neither bigger than a 5p. The paint shines up really well. There was a little water getting into the boot last winter so I replaced the rear screen seal with a brand new genuine Mercedes item at a cost of over £100. The rear screen aperture was 100% rust free with shiny paint all around. I’ve fitted staggered fit 15” 15 hole wheels to the car with four nearly new budget tyres. I also have 4 stock steels and caps for the car with matching good Michelin energy tyres if you prefer. Underneath the car is spot on, all the common areas are rust free. The floor bungs and drain tubes are all present and there is no rust or evidence of repair anywhere underneath. The car is completely oil and fluid tight, it does not leak or use any oil or other fluids. I fitted a new accessory belt and a brand new fuel pump and filter to the car in March. I’ve just given the car a full service with oil filter, air filter and plugs. I had my local specialist fit a set of GSF 40mm lowering springs to the car at a cost of nearly £300 last month. When unloaded the rear is sitting a little high for my taste, the front is on 1 dot spring pads and the rear is on 3 dot spring pads so if you went for thinner or thicker pads you could bring the car up or down to your taste. I will throw in the original springs in case you wanted to put it back to stock. The MOT is due 1st September 2015, I’ll put a fresh MOT on it for you if I get the full asking price. The car owes me well over £2k but I've priced it sensibly to sell. All in all this is a very sorted example of a 190e with all the common issues dealt with, just needs a nice set of 17's on it and you've got a sweet daily that will only go up in value. Any other information you need please let me know. £1650 or near offer. I also have a lot of assorted spare parts that can be negotiated separately if you want them. Everything from tail lights, window regulators, switches, trim, fuses, you name it. Contact me via PM on here or better still on zero seven seven three 8924 one eight three. Cheers

I bought these for my 190e but I'm going a different route so these are up for grabs: W140 S Class Mercedes Wheels, 7.5J x 16 ET51. Ideal for Mk1/2/3 golfs and such because the offset makes them ideal for adaptors. Can look like this on a Mk2: They are currently fitted with 235/60 R16 Continentals, all on 4mm. They will all need a refurb as per the pictures. Just looking to get back what they owe me, £180 collected from Lytham St Annes near Blackpool. Courier within the UK is an extra £40. You can contact me via PM on here or on zerosevenseventhreeeightninetwofouroneeightthree. Thanks.

I've taken some pictures of the underneath for those that asked. This car is exceptionally clean! Driver's door bottom: Driver's wing/door water drains: Trailing edge of driver's wing (you can see the drips of underbody protection wax on the inner sill and floor) Plenty of interest but nobody's been to see it! You will not be disappointed, this car is a peach.

1986 Saab 900 2.0 Carb 2 door sedan Mileage 45,859 miles MOT until 27th August 2015 – No Advisories Full dealer service history up to 41000 miles Last full service carried out by me, oil, fuel, air and cabin filters changed New heater control valve New power steering and alternator belts 4 x Swedish branded tyres, all on 7mm tread Unused toolkit and spare wheel I was on the lookout for a new daily driver after my 5 series failed its MOT and the usual classified and eBay trawling left me looking for something I’ve not had before. I always fancied an old Saab and I’d almost discounted these, as all of the examples I’d seen had starship miles, worn out gearboxes and serious rust issues. This one was over my budget but stuck out as looking like a car that had been looked after with low miles and clean bodywork. These ‘flat front’ cars are the last of the proper pre-GM cars, before they started using bits of Cavalier and retaining all of the Saab quirky features, including a handbrake that operates the front wheels. This car is by far the most honest genuine car I've owned, the history is fantastic. On 1st August 1986 Mrs Pownall picked up this car from Mayfield Garage, Liverpool, trading in her previous car which was a Saab 99. She then had the car serviced at Saab main dealers ever since and these are all documented in the history file. The last recorded service when I bought it was in July 1999 and I can only presume she gave up driving, because it had travelled less than 4000 miles since. It has been MOT’d every year and had only covered 17 miles between it’s last two MOTs. It flew through in August with no advisories whatsoever, but caught the MOT tester out with the handbrake! I fully serviced the car when I got it to be on the safe side, although the oil looked brand new when I dropped it. I’ve been using the car every day since then, covering over 1000 miles in the last 2 months. The car drives how you would expect a 45,000-mile car to drive, it drives perfectly and quietly around town and on the motorway and I’ve been as far as Birmingham and back in it with zero fuss whatsoever. The controls are light and responsive and the car is great fun to drive. Condition wise I think the photos speak volumes, but here is a summary: Exterior: Excellent condition, no rust whatsoever, anywhere. Finished in Saab Admiral Blue, the paint is in great condition The only blemishes to speak of are a handful of small stone chips on the bonnet and a couple of very small trolley dings in the passenger door. These haven’t broken the paint and would be an inexpensive easy fix for a dent specialist. The car has been waxoyled from new, underneath and in the inner wings so there are no signs of corrosion or repairs. It even still wears its original dealer plates. Interior: As per the outside, the interior is in excellent shape, no damage or marks to the seats or carpets. The dash is clean and crack free, showing no signs of wear to the switches or controls. The boot is spotless, the spare wheel and tools are unused. The only criticism is that headlining cloth is starting to sag very slightly in the corners. Kits to repair these can be bought cheaply and it’s a DIY job for someone with some patience. The car is pretty basic in terms of equipment, the windows are all manual, the car has never had a radio or speakers fitted. Everything that is there works perfectly, including the heated driver’s seat, which automatically comes on when the ambient temperature drops below 10 degrees. Here's a link to all the photos: www.flickr.com/photos/whitbytom/sets/72157648743359618/So what's the reason I'm selling? The car is too nice. My kids clamber all over the inside of cars on the school run and such and my job means I'll pile miles on it and not have time to look after it. SOLD

Although not strictly retro, in a dark forgotten corner of the modified to death VW group, the Skoda Fabia saloon. Giving one of those the treatment would definitely be love for the unloved:

Holy thread resurrection! In the end I threw away that piece of cheese I posted in my OP and bought one of these: Flare ToolIt's much less fiddly than the other style and with a little care flares pipes pretty consisitently. However I will say that if those Powerhand jobbies were around when I needed one I probably would have plumped for one of those. A proper old school Sykes Pickavant one would be the dream.

If you are sitting idling in traffic a fair bit, it may be worth rigging up some form of stop start mechanism on the engine? Not great for starter motor longevity but will save you a few mpgs towards your target. I had one of those.... was the key and my hand Haha! I thought of that, on occasion when I have turned off at the lights in the past my mind wanders off. Next thing you know the light is green, the car is in front moving off and typically I'd panic, fire it up and try and set off in 3rd gear with the handbrake on!

If you want to pursue the weight saving route without wrecking practicality, I believe the 3L Lupo and the Lupo GTI have lighter aluminium bonnets, doors and maybe bootlids fitted. Changing the bonnet means moving to the VW front end, but the doors and tailgate should be a straight swap.
Other things for weight loss, perhaps remove or install smaller silencers on the exhaust to shed some kilos, de-wiper the tailgate (for extra scene points), plexiglass rear side glass, lose the spare wheel and carry tyre foam and a compressor?
