Well my new back plates tured up Monday so I took a couple of hours off to paint them and just put the brakes and suspension on. I still need to fit the exhaust and handbrake cable but will do that when I have painted the floor. I have painted and polished the exhaust but forgot to take a pic but will add one the weekend.

scaryoldcortina has done somthing great here and a lot could come from this, some of you may have missed out on this because you live to far away, so if any one wants to do something similar in the midlands(M5 Juction 2) I will be happy to help, some of you know I have my own restoration shop and would be happy to help people to learn how to weld, fabricate or maybe spraying, if there is any interest we can arrange a time I would be interested in this if it comes to anything. Only 15 mins away too.

Does anybody know why Diana's Series 1 had an RS1600i grill? I've always wondered. I am sure I read on the rsocbb some time ago when the previous owner had it, who did all the reserch it was ordered in black and had that grill so it blended in better and didn't attract as much attention. That guy in Ireland has some fantastic cars and I have been lucky enough to be in concours at national day twice when he turned up with his 7.5t iveco curtain sider which carried 2 mk2s over the water to compete in the concours and they are stunning.

revvit thats a cool bike. We must be related I restored half a dozen BMXs before I got a motorbike at 16. Little bit of an update I have fitted the subfame after my 1 week turn around on the chrome parts turned into 3 weeks. I have given the parts I am re-using a bit of a make over. I should have taken before photos really. I picked a litre of red up today as I have got a couple left to paint. Finally I need to clean the rest of the exhaust up after I have painted it, but I have done a small area to show you what it will look like. It is copper apart from the very font section that meets the manifold and the back box which will be red. Should look good when cleaned up.

Small world I was talking to Paul the previous owner of this estate last week. Yeah, Pauls not too keen on it since I played with it - he doesnt like woodys! ;D Yes he did say that if he ever got the chance to buy it back it would have to be bonfire night. I think it looks cool though.

This is just 2 streets away from where I live but as for any details I have no idea what it is. I have lived here for over 5 years and it hasn't moved. only reasON I asked is id be interested in it, yeah I knew it was an Ant, we just had one itn at work for refurbishment (done the cab now doing the roadsweeper bit for it) the bloke who owns it drives a pickup one as a daily, says its a right giggle.. 50 mph flat out 700cc motor lol.. just saw potential for some serious sleeperness with a reliant 850 and a different geared axle lol (maybe even oddball camper) I pass the house regularly but have never seen anyone there. I could put a note through the door if your keen on it?

Thanks for the response
jossen I think it was feb 07 the brown was featured but was probably 3 months before that it came out as they are always way in front with the issues. I was not that keen on the brown when we brought it but it has grown on me and you don't come by 1 owner minis of that age anymore so we had to have it.
matttt3222 I used paint stipper to get worst of it off in the end then a wire brush attachment on the drill to get the rest off it was horrid stuff what the last owner had used, I hope I don't come across it again.
revvit I love the mk1, my first concours mini was a 1964 850 SDL that I showed from 1999 up untill 2002 when I sold it to a guy in Florida. Was a nice example but I got bored with standard and got to the point that I couldn't do anymore without modifying it and doing that to standard mk1 was wrong so it went. Would love a mk1 or mk2 s one day, maybe if the escort ever goes I may get one.

trackers are good as long as you know its been stolen pretty quick, not cheap though this is cheaper www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Smart-Car-Surveillance-System-Using-a-Mobile-Phone although not so accurate out in the countryside, if you can afford to splurge on a decent smart phone and a sim with a large or free data allowance (I use an iphone paygo sim in my nokia for a years free net access, cost a tenner off the bay) you can run google latitude which will constantly update the phones postition and show its position on the internet. I like the sound of this I ain't all that clued up with phones how much am I looking at for suitable phone? I take it I need a phone with gps?

Thanks for the comments. When I was doing the engine bay I took the bonnet to the paint shop I use for a match and as soon as I put the bonnet on the counter the guy said its tahiti blue, my response was are you sure I thought tahiti was dark blue? The response was not in the 70s.
I am going a bit futher than I wanted to with this, I brought it to take up santa pod, but as we go to a lot of mini shows I thought I would tidy it up a bit so I can park next to the brown one in concours. Don't get me wrong it will never beat the brown one in concours but I can keep my eye on it and have some fun on the strip too.
Progress is on hold now as I am waiting for the chrome guy to phone me as I took all the mounts for the subframe in to be done. I was told a week and that was a fortnight ago.

Love the colour scheme, makes a nice change from red with cooper stripes and a union jack roof. Agreed why is it everyone seems to want theirs to be a cooper replica.

Longman colours huh? That's gorgeous, I'm sure I took some 35mm piccies of that in 2000/2001 at one of the bigger Mini shows. Loving the Gusset Brown Clubby too! Welcome to Retro-Rides. ;D Yes it is painted in patrick motor group colours which richard longman won the btcc in 1979. His original car is still around and was at the classic car show at the nec on the british mini club stand recently. Richard longman kept his race car for many years and sold it to the current owner not all that long ago I was told. You may well have seen it all those years ago as I did, I think there is a plaque on the dash from 2000 and 2001 mini in the park. It was featured in Mini Magazine in 2001 and I never saw it again after 2001 as ownership changed and the then new owner very rarely used it and never went to a mini show in all the time he had it. This is the guy I got it off.

I know a lot of people don't belive in having a car and not using it but the escort is to good to knock about and I only drive it to shows. It suits me as I drive for a living and the last thing I want when I am not working is to drive. I enjoy doing the projects more than driving the cars. Anyway I have done a bit more on the mini finally getting all the paint off and I had to do a couple of repairs. I gave it a coat of etch primer then seam sealer where needed then a coat of stone chip which is where I am up to now. Here are the pics of it now unfortunatly I forgot to take photos in between. Back at work tomorrow so a coat of tahiti blue will have to wait till the weekend.
