Cheers Si. Back on four wheels now and looking good. Road tested today however and I've still got an issue - it's better than it was but I've still got a deep vibration issue when at speed. Next stop is swapping the box Will update when done.

Ok - quick update -
Despite many attempts and testing ets I am still somewhat perplexed. I have found another back axle for it and cleaned it up with new brakes etc (bloody lockheed brakes and absolutley nothing of intrest in the Haynes..).
So - it's back on four wheels again now but I can't test drive it becasue the little turds who stole my van also made off with some other stuff from within - namely - my tent, sleeping bag, camera tripod and bag - but most importantly, my jump leads. New leads have been purchased from ebay - so watch this space.
It's been off the road now for 8 months - so I really hope it's all good - plus the mot is now out. Pics and update fo follow..
Oh - and got a couple of early christmas pressies for it - a Tim pod tacho for the dash and an 8 ball gear knob to replace the polished moon piston (rattles like curse word at speed - from memory that is...)

Thanks much that man. It turns out the budget is a bit thin anyway... Thread to follow - but it's a long wheel base ex-wedding car - belonged to my mother. It's mechanicaly great but she's attacked it (like many things that aren't bolted down or otherwise around her gaff) with a paint brush and roller on the roof and sills Still - can't grumble for £250 with 12 months ticket...

Deffinately on the XJ photos - thread coming soon - and thanks for the info. I let slip some 15" 8J slot mags last week and I've been gutted ever since - the Cragar rims I was looking at ended early as well so it's back to the drawing board anyway Somebody else said the XJ40 has 140mm PCD and the XJ6 has 120 - is that right? (mine is 120). Yes - well it says on the registration docco it's an '89 - but it does indeed have the analogue dash clocks. So what rims will fit then - looking at the charts I've narrowed it down to 5 stud Lotus, Lamborgini and Aston for a perfect match (120.65) and BMW for a near as dammit (120 square). I want something old school with BAGS od dish.......

Howdy partners,
I've just scored myself an old ('89) 4.0 XJ6 - I'm unsure what series it is but it looks like an XJ40 with the twin headlight bezels.
Any way, it's a bit tatty and is rolling stock steels at the mo - so it's in desperate need of some rims. I've seen some sweet uni lug wheels that would fit PCD-wise and the offset looks ok by a whisker (21mm+) but they are 14's - and the stock rims are 15's.
Does anyone know if they would fit over the calipers and disks? Anyone else run 14's on an XJ6/XJ40 on here?
All answers as always greatly appreciated. Muchly ta.

well this is a real problem. I'm with you retrowagon. The annoying thing is the viva is off the road - needs a new back axle which I need a car to go and get. I just can't afford it.
I expect this will get locked as a moaning thread - but I'm furious that at 30 with no convictions or claims, owning my own house with a garage, I can no longer afford to drive the cheapest vehicle I can find.

Ok, so I'm trying to sort my self out a daily driver - my van got nicked and I've got a £400 budget for a crappy set of wheels to get bags of cement etc. Check this out - Quote for 3rd part T&F on a bog standard, beaten 1999 Skoda felicia 1.3 - stated value of £400. Kept in a garage over night (yeah right, but still - that's what's on the quote). Me - policy holder, and the misses named. We've both had our licences for about 12 years, no convictions, no claims - social domestic only - no commuting. £2130 per annum Am I missing something? I've done all the comparrison sites and the cheapest I can find is £570. WTF is going on??? Not a happy bunny. - The viva is fully comp with us both on it and it's £150. I don't understand when it was deemed ok to be bent over and given a damn good seeing to for car insurance?

Hello - anyone making the journey from Cheshire to Essex at any point? I think I might be aquiring a complete Viva axle from Cheshire and need it in Grays, Essex. I don't really mind when - as long as the dude I'm buying it from doesn't want it shifted too soon.... Any takers? Thanks in advance

Thanks Chaps - dissapointing - oh well - so the pinto is still the favorite for back end activity and economy then? It's either that or a garrett on the 1256. Thanks for all the input
