Just managed the whole 97 pages and just wanted to say "awesome work " In my opinion This thread opitimises the Ethos of Retro Rides , and your refusal to accept defeat should be applauded Great job Tony! Thank you so much. I can't believe you've read it all. I should say that you are the reason I came to Retro Rides. I'd bought the car (as a project) and was trying to work out how to sort out the rust problems. I had no idea where to start or what to do. I was surfing the web and found your 'Making Panels' thread. It was an inspiration and probably taught me more than any other single source. I was taking photos of what I was doing so I could remember how to put the car back together again, but also to write it up on an MR2 forum. But I learned so much on RR - mostly from your thread - that I thought I should give something back to the community. For what it's worth, this thread is my thanks for what you gave me. Great to finally 'meet' you! James Thanks James, very much the same reason I started posting, to give something back for the hours of joy and distraction that it brought Unfortunately work and life have conspired to get in the way for the last few years, but it’s been good to pop back recently and catch up with some old favourites and follow some new projects Tony

Its been too long since I updated this thread The car got finished about 3 years ago and Brian then took it away to get painted, unfortunately that did not turn out to be a good job, But Brian ran around in for a while and then recently decided he had enough Classic BMWs and decided to sell it This weekend we saw the Car at the BMW National show at Gaydon, and whilst the Paintwork looks ok from a distance, the main thing having been in touch with the owner, I'm pleased to say that he's delighted with the car, and recently when it was in the garage getting some setting up done, the Mechanic commented how tidy it was underneath Some photos from the Gaydon Show

What a great day today Arranged to meet Michael at the Ripon Races Classic Car Show, to see the Victor in all its glory And I was not disappointed, Michael has done a great job, and his hard work and attention to detail, do the car proud It was great to meet Michael, and talk about the car and best of all it won best car of the Show today aswell. I know Gordon would approve Now that it’s finished he is thinking of selling the car, so if anyone is interested in owning what I consider to be the best FB Victor in the UK, then please message him And some photos below from today

Just an update, attended the Footman James classic car show this weekend and got car of the show! Well worth the effort of those involved and just a shame that the man who started this project is no longer with us. Mick That’s is great News and I know Gordon would be as delighted as I am that you’ve taken on the Custodianship of this car, and have continued on the path that he started to create one of the Best FBs in the country, I look forward to meeting you one day and shaking your hand All the Best Tony

This has really made my day
Thanks for posting this Mick, it’s great to see that the car has been bought by a real enthusiast who has the time and skill to complete it to the level it deserves
It’s ages since I’ve been on this forum, life has just been to busy, but I’ll be back regularly now to check on progress
All the Best
Tony

Yes Red Lead primer, although since doing this I've discovered POR 15, which I use a lot now , but I did have a recent problem where it set hard and just peeled off, not entirely sure what that was all about Ive been using something similar to POR 15 called Jotun Jotamastic. It too peels off if it doesnt have a good surface to go on. It warns in the instructions that if you use a wire wheel on a drill or grinder that the surface gets polished and the paint wont stick. So i used coarse grinding discs and sand paper to key everything before Jotun epoxy went on. It also said don't put a second coat on if the first coat has fully cured, or if you have to, then you need to key it up too. I did actually give it a second coat, but it was both coats that peeled off, I'll watch for that the next time
