Sign the petion, yes, but hopefully I will turn out to be correct in thinking they have f*ck all chance with this one, its totally madcap! R-reg BMW 525 TD Estate, all the options, 65k with full BMW history, showroom condition, stands some guy at five grand, instant scrap overnight? Yeah, right, when do you want the economy up and running again, 3057?

I think someone somewhere has read a two sentence article in the Sun or overheard something in the pub about the EU banning all cars 10 years and over and got all excited.
This is evidently not going to happen, particularly it would effectively ban most of the cars in use in the new EU states like Poland and Slovenia. The actual petition itself seems to have been written in a hurry, and the last sentence in particular doesn't really make sense.
I wish people would use this petition thing properly, particularly as when used appropriately, like with road pricing, it can have a real impact.

On the road pricing thing... it was done beforte there was any actual government road pricing proposal developed, so it was still technically premature. There have been a numbner of proposals made at an EU level to restrict the use of older cars, and yes Edinburgh is trying to bann cars over 15 years old from their city centre, and Ken Livingstone wanted at one point to ban older cars from the CC zone in London. All of these (except the Edinburgh thing) have been boucned and not happened because of acute political lobbying by people active in Europe, the central and local government offices in the UK, etc. However it never harms to show the government strength of feeling on an issue. This petition is not against any specific proposal but against the general principal of predjudice against older cars. Nothing to get over excited about but something we need to keep reminding our political representatives that we care about. |

Because of the amounts of propaganda, spin and disinformation circulating nowadays about everything I refuse to sign any petition. I didn’t road pricing, I won’t this, don’t care how good the cause purports to be.
Turn it round the other way – if you wanted to do something and were presented with a petition asking you not to, would you take any notice? Hopefully you’d listen to reasoned argument, but a list of names?

That is the most pathetic thing i've ever heard. Does tony blair and his little bum chums do anything good for the country. What is the point in a stupid little petition like this. Not all motorists want to change there car just because it's over 15 years old. The government P155 me off so much!!  |

The way things are going with fuel costs and road charging you'll be glad to get rif of your cars as they'll be so bloody expensive to run  I say buy a car in France and run around in foreign plates and fook em all! Just kidding but it's a thought. The only thing the Govt. cares about really is how much money they can sqeeze out of you to squander on mainly ill thought out projects that are priced ridiculously low so that they get approved and then end up exponentially over budget because they are too inept in the first place! |

Not only is it the most stupid idea I have ever heard of, but banning older cars would make it impossible from the majority of low income families to own a car. Its like saying if you cant afford a new car or get f**ked by a finance company you cant own a car. Not to mention my own personal love for the older motor car Edit: If you ever meet any of these people go over to there 07 reg BMW X5 and call them a F**king C**t |
