I have updates! Due to the exhaust being properly past its best, I opted for getting a new one built for it.So now I have a full stainless system, which doesn't rattle, or knock, just sounds nice!Ive not got a picture though stupidly! Then the MOT ran out.I knew there would be a couple of things it would fail on, welding really. So I tried to pre-empt it, and fix the holes. Simple hole on the sill I thought?Er, no. Started like this Ended up being this! Went into the arch as well.Eventually fixed up looking like this Might not look all that pretty, but it is strong, and my first ever automotive welding attempt! With a bit of paint, it looks ok. So I took it in for mot, a bit nervous, and....,failed. In a fair fashion too.Needed two bits of welding(not the bits I'd already done happily), four shock absorbers, N/S lower suspension arm bush, top ball joint, and a steering rack! Not great news, especially as I wasn't expecting it.Wouldn't be so much of a problem, but it was testing on Friday morning, and on Tuesday morning, it was due to be rolling roaded, and I really didn't want to miss that.So major rushing around trying to find all the bits, and by Monday afternoon, I had it sorted!Next step, Rolling road! ;D

So with the mad panic mot sorted(nothing like leaving things to the last minute!), it was off to Tipton Garage for the engine to be looked at.Ive never done this before, so was pretty excited about it.And all in all, it was good. Waiting to go in Getting in position Nice backdrop! The car needed a bit of work.It wasn't runnning too well, so some investigation showed the inlet manifold gasket was leaking,so replaced that.also replaced the distributor cap, and leads whilst we were at it. He also properly did all the timing, fuel settings etc etc.Spent about 3 hours going through it all.Cant recommend them enough to be honest, very nice people. One of them Me trying to understand! And the screen(although not showing any results) Turns out Ive got 97 raging horses, and 121 lb/ft or torque. Not exactly mega figures, but the drivability of the car now is soooooo much better.I'm really enjoying it even more!So there you go, up to date, and ready for classic ford show at santa pod! ;D

Good work I'm more than a little jealous of your engine set up work, MOT pass and if I'm honest just the general fact that your Cortina is on the road. Enjoy

Is that 97 at the wheels or the Flywheel? Hi Dan! How much did they charge for the work? Good to see an update the old girl! Must inform my mate who owned it before it got buggered around with! Keep them coming. Mines got its retest Friday, Failed on a lower swivel! Grrrrr!! Something I always check as they were still the original ones (forgot to check them) Think you may win our little burn up at santa pod though, as I have had to go back to the 1600. Still, I'm willing if you are Dan! LOL Catch up soon matey!

It made 97 at the flywheel, cant remember what it was at the wheels. Ive got the printout.Cant believe the diifference it made. Cant wait to get a cam, carb and other engine stuff happening!Big grins ahoy. They charged me £45 an hour, plus the parts. Not too bad I thought. Will-what needs doing to yours? Ben-I'm right in thinking you live local ish?Come to the ILminster meet, and you can see the Cortinashed in the flesh!

looks mega mate your doing yourself proud with all the work you put in, need more tina's on the road especially if they look like this, any chance you know of another set of those pentas for sale they are very nice. Cheers mate, appreciate it. I'm quite pleased with myself!don't know of any other Pentas either I'm afraid, not sure Ive seen any others on a Ford actually Nice pic Frankie-Not sure if I'm at Retro Show, ill let you know if I go. So, as I said, I went to Classic Ford at Santa Pod the other weekend. It was very hot, and as such, so was the Cortina.Too hot. Motorway speeds were out of the question, 65mph max to try and keep it out of the red!Sitting at idle, no problem, small bursts, no worries, anything else, nah! So, I bought this at the auto jumble Rad out of a 2.3 V6 Cortina. Now, I'd love to say I fitted this in the car park, home built hero styleee! But, I didn't. In fact, Ive not fitted it at all, as I didnt realise that the in's and out's are exact opposite of mine.Doh. Its also bigger, which was the whole point, but will mean ,making up mounting tabs, as the original mountings don't match. So thats on the to do list. Thought was a deal at a tenner, even though the stingy woman wanted an extra £1.50 for the cap!Got it for 'free' after some haggling. Also bought this to try and help my cooling issues Off the bay, but didn't come with anything else other than the fan, and securing straps(which are rubbish), had to buy the switches etc seperate. Fitting Fitted Have to see if this helps, just need some hot weather to test it.Will also get a new water pump too, just to make sure. Also fitted a new steering rack and TRE's. Not done this before, but was all pretty straight forward, apart from getting the spline back into the steering box part.Couldn't get it back in, was fiddling about for ages trying to get it in there, the Al(Donk) came over, and fresh eyes had it sorted out quick sharp.Good to have mates I say!Tried to get its tracked as near as possible, but took it to get done properly, and it was 22mm out!Close!

The new fan should help at low speeds and in traffic but if your problem was at motorway speeds then it points to a blocked rad. When ford fitted the 2 litre pinto into the Mk1 Escort RS2000 and fitted the electric fan they claimed an extra 2 BHP. Every little helps as they say at Tesco
