Those are quite possibly the sexiest wheels I've ever seen on a ford. Can't explain why, but I just love 'em. Just the right amount of lowering on the rear as well, not slammed to the floor, but no 4x4 ride height either now. Pentas for the win

I love Cortina's! My uncle had a B reg Crusada Mk5 estate, but it was only a 1.6. One of the guys I went to school with had a 2.8 powered Mk5 too! Seeing these on here really make me want one! Damn you!

Reading this brings back so many memories for me. Had a Mk 4 and 2 Mk 5's as my first 3 cars after passing my test in 87. Ah, good old void bushes. Think I had to change them a few times.
Great thread.

just had a read through the thread mate and its bloody stunning ive currently got a mk5 estate thats slowly getting done, was on the road but found aload of rusty a panels and wings so its currently on axle stands on my drive your using 2" springs from burton yes? what poundage are these and how much were they? how does it drive with them fitted and have u changed your shocks? also, do u have poly bushes fitted? I'm looking at getting a kit for mine and having the void bushes made in a stronger poly so they don't wear as quick. heres mine going to get an efi 1800 zetec and lowered with steelies and hubcaps

Hey Nick. Loving the Estate, would love a beige load lugger! Springs I think were 180lb's, but don't quote me on that. Cost about £116 posted. Drives ok, perhaps a little boucy at times. I changed the shocks for standard ones for the mot, but want uprated ones at some point. Cross member can take a bit of a beating though! ;D Its partially poly bushed, front mainly. I want to get a full set and renew them all, but, I might not do the rears in poly, as Ive heard with bigger power gains, they can cause the rear chassis to crack! And I want more power!

Hiya mate, thanks for the information, I was thinking of using 200 lbs springs due to it being an estate I take it they were from burtons? I eventually want adjustable shocks as well as poly bushed throughout, like I said with the stiffer void bushes I've been offered an 1800 Zetec ready converted with a type 9 5 speed that ill put in with the efi I'm also going to run either slot mags or banded steelies with hubcaps sort the rust out as well obviously Any idea what colour mine is btw? Atlas axles, what are they off? Capris?

I was interested in going down the zetec route but got but keeping the pinto in it and going down the turbo route! Banded steels ftw buddy! Think my atlas came of a mk3 cortina, the capris have different mounts and what not for the shocks and leaf springs

ive got a 2 litre that i was going to put in her with bike carbs, but ive been offered this zetec for a stupidly low price, with type 9 box, so be rude not to can always slap a turbo on it at a later date as well yeah I'm thinking that aswell, but what size? 13's, 14's or 15's? :/ ahh right ok, they alot stronger than standard estate rear axles then?

Well you carnt moan if it's cheap then really! Yeah I've got the 2.0 efi in mine at and also a 2.1 bottom end in my shed couldn't make my mind up what too do but 100% going turbo.. I've had all 3 sizes on mine, had the 15" shark tooth wheels had some mk2 5.5j steels on it and got the 14" comp fh lookalikes on it now!! Yeahh there much stronger than the curse word koln axles.

yeah turbo in that would be mint, doesnt have to be a big power turbo setup, just abit to give u more power and that sound, that sound what would u say the best size wheel is then for general all round? I'm thinking 13's but 14s would be easier to get better tyres for and fill the arch that little bit more as well

As Tom says, Kolnes are rubbish, Atlas are much better. They also have the ability to take the whole differential out, and replace. So, you could get an lsd unit from a Capri Atlas, and swap it in. Aftermarket ones are about a grand, Capri ones about 500 usually. Cortina axle is different due to Cortina's suspension set up is totally different, as said above. I want to make my pinto more powerful, but was thinking about swaping eventually, but will probably go the duratec route. Just in case its of any use, Ive got a sierra twincam(carb'd), and box that I'm prob selling, breaking whole car if enough interest too. As for the wheels, I'd say 15 steels. Mondeo, or, a guy on here had Citroen Picasso 15" steels on his cortina, and looked really good. No hubcaps though!plus, 15" tyres are cheap as chips! Oh yeah, springs from burton, and not sure on colour, but have a few 'ford new cars' mags somewhere, so will have a look in there if I can find it .

13" were good but getting tyres can be abit pricey I'm on the 14" atm ill try and get some pics up of it with the wheels I've had on it. Yeah Capri LSD fits straight into the cortina atlas axle and can be picked up for about £400-500 or if your brave enuff a mig spec is just as good!

is it just the bits attached to the axles that are different then? like platforms? just theres a 2.8i capri in a scrappy near me so was going to have the axle then swap the saddles over from mine? would that work or is it a dead end no point? like i said, ive been offered an 1800 ready converted zetec with type 9 box so ill just stick that in instead yours would go well with that sierra engine and a set of weber 45's my "show me mk5 cortina estates" thread in the general board showed up some good ones, specially that photoshop on page 3 i think, the beige one with the alley cats cheers for the help guys, ill stop hi jacking your thread now :L

Any more progress on ATE Dan? Frankie
