This is one thread that I've got excited about in a long time, the attention to detail is amazing. Do you fancy an engine rebuilding holiday to Australia? I'll buy a broken 944 just for you! ;D

Small update from today after more work on the house and garden Decided to put the throttle body back together while it was fresh in my mind Greased up the small roller bearings and fitted the spindle and flap back in place Refitted the TPS Heres the new top end gasket set Unfortunately before i can start putting things back together i need to clean up some more bolts and brackets and get the bottom oend gasket set. So i moved on to some body work prep - i stripped down the front bumper I got from Dave as its in better condition that my current one. Lights removed Hoses for the light washers and the washers themselfs removed More help from the Spaniel making sure i wash doing it properly Then i cleaned off all the crappy glue that was holding the No. plate on And began sanding - there was a few coats of old poor paint to be removed Then after some more fettling it was looking a little better The N/S needed some extra work - Small crack repaired and some deterioration of the gell coat needed sorting too. V out first This needed filling Green stopper and filler later I left it like this as i was ready for my dinner! However i did take a box of bits in need of some cleaning away with me Thanks for looking James

Excellent work, reminds me of my old 944, looking at the throttle body, have you seen how some re-profile the cam which the cable goes onto to give a sharper throttle response? Did to mine, does'nt cost anything, and was a lot more responsive.

Trying to remember the exact details now, its been ten years since my 944 went, basically you can either buy a new throttle body cam, or re-profile your existing one, which is'nt to hard. If you think of the cam now as a commer shape, you cut and file it into more like a circle shape. The idea is that at the moment where the cable leaves the cam it is further away from the pivot point, ie. on a larger diameter, and their fore has to travel further. If you reduce the distance from where the cable leaves the cam to the cam pivot, the cable does'nt have to move so far. Hope I have'nt over complicated this, it is a simple job, and well worth doing, you don't get any extra BHP, it just feels like it.

Found some time for the car today, I had some bits and bobs that still needed cleaning so cracked on with that All the various nuts, bolts brackets etc bagged ready to be cleaned Doing it this way makes it much easier on the brain imo To help keep all the bits together whilst cleaning I boxed them up Consequently I could wash them all together too Strain them off with the sieve And in to the hot was in their boxes Thats the first lot clean The cam box end cap came out well From To It was still very grubby on the inside though and in need of some more love. In to the hand shot along with the alternator adjuster bar Much better I cleaned all the adjuster bar threads Then moved the nuts and did them again Along with the rest of the bar Next was the bell housing clutch cover thingy Looking a little crispy Here's a small video of some blasting for those that are interested And this is the finished article Cam box end taped up Along with the second round of bits out of the hot was As you can see they are far from were I want them to be though Nuts and bolts in the wood Then in the blaster along with a few other bits This prompted another home hade holder for the smaller bolts They are very difficult to hold in the blaster other wise All the larger stuff came out well As did the small bits Bit of acid etch primer Then some silver And some black for the other bits More bits to be cleaned Exhaust heat shield and washers done And the rest Paint The end result is worth it imo All wrapped up in tissue and bagged in fresh bags Job done Thanks for looking James

Are you just building this for yourself? I really think the attention to detail you are putting in is really worth the effort. Is the engine bay getting the same treatment as well for when the engine goes back in, and then continue on the rest of the car?

Yep i'm just building this myself - some people may think its over kill and they would probably be right but thats just the way i like to do things.
I'm hoping to continue my efforts throughout the car but i do want her to see the road this summer so i may come back to some areas come winter time.

Gotta love it, when you have the spare equipment to afford to sandblast, prime, and paint, an old nut - rather than just replace it ;D

I might be sad or a little boring, or both, but how satisfying does that blasting look in that video?? Amazing work and attention to detail, love it!

I might know of some Porsche fitment wheels....like those Fondmetal ones - same style, same size etc....(7x16 & 8x16 IIRC)
Not sure exactly how much the guy wants, but I can get back in touch if you like? I think he was looking around the £350 mark.
Let me know and I'll see if I can find the photos.
Epic build BTW ;D

Any help would be appreciated - if you have the photos to start that would be great. Here are the pics I was sent the other day: ...and I've just sent him the following email: "Hi Jim,
Sorry for not getting back to you sooner….
I did get the pictures, thanks. Did you have any idea on a price for the wheels yet? I am not 100% sure myself, but I do have a friend with a 944 who is very interested in them. I am about to send him the photos, so hopefully if you can sort a final price, I might have a buyer for you regardless of my decision to buy them or not.
Regards for now,
Bruce."As soon as I hear back from him I'll let you know. If you do decide to buy them....PLEASE make them look like this: I know the spokes aren't the same curved shape as the Fondmetal ones, but they would look jsut as epic if given the same treatment. They are Rial's BTW. As far as I know, the tyres have been removed and it's just the wheels that he's selling. [edit] They are 16x7 ET20 and 16x8 ET11, so perfect size for your car ;D [/edit]
