I have just come across this Mk1 Golf on E38 and it is, in my eyes, the perfect mk1 golf. My favourite Mk1 has always been Danny allens but this, to me, is right up there! Enjoy All home built and everything full build thread www.edition38.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=79659&st=1020 <There.

BBS Wheels - Check Lowered - Check Single headlight grille - Check Crosshairs - Check.
I'm sure it's a repeat, I didn't realise the BBC were into modifying cars?

BBS Wheels perfectly sitting in arches - Check Lowered to perfection- Check Single headlight grille because it looks cool - Check Crosshairs because they look cool- Check. I'm sure it's a repeat, I didn't realise the BBC were into modifying cars? Who cares if it's formulaic. If you can't see what's special about that car you should have gone to specsavers.

I did exactly the same as Soopahfly until I saw under the bonnet, it really highlights the work involved when the exterior of it could, at a casual look, be any other modified dubscene Mk1 Golf. It might be formulaic, but it's done to an exceptional standard.

Surely if something has gone down a well trodden road and still manages to drop jaws, that makes the car even more special?

It's not blinkered, it's all I see every day. In fact there was about 3 carbon copies in the pub carpark yesterday. At least that black one on air has decided to go a different route with the wheels, and looks better for it. What's so special about under the bonnet? It's clean. Big whoop, wanna fight about it? I feel the whole vw scene has stagnated. And that's just really sad.

I'm not really that bothered with what make the wheels are they look cool and are a change from the usual RS/RM that you do see a lot of. I love the way the car sits and the work that has gone into making the car sit like that. The paintwork is absolutely spot on as is the engine bay, It is clean but not too over the top like you see alot of in the VW scene these days.
But not every one is into the same things are they

Did anybody get a snap of the Mars Red mk1 on teledials at Wheels Day? I thought it was lovely and seemed to be a father/son project (which seems to always add a certain dynamic to a build).

Porsche 924 - gone Citroen Saxo VTR - not very retro but I loved it - now gone... MK4 Golf GTi 1.8T - gone but hardly remembered... Mini Cooper S R53 - gone BMW 125d Coupe - gone (mostly sideways)
Ford Focus RS Mk1 - hello low MPGs and "wanna race me" at every set of lights... 1973 BMW 2002 - Twin 40's, 284 Cam, Revolutions, E21 Recaros + more Porsche Cayman 987 3.4S - here and due to cost me more money than I have

Same as people complain about nearly all modified minis run Sportspack. The first one ever to be modified by numbers will be the one that is perfection. The one every other tries to copy. Sure, there may be subtle differences but the essence is the same.

I know exactly where you are coming from soopahfly and agree that the majority of the cars in the VW scene are all the same. But this is not what this thread is about. Its about a car that I think is very cool and would be good to share with you kind retrorides people!
