Today I have bought a metro sport, 1989 1275, I had found it on google maps and thougth id go investigate see if it was still there, I was shocked to see it was still there so I knocked on the door and had a chat with the guy and argeed a price, come back home had a word with the father and he went over and had a good look for rot/ holes and got it abit cheaper than I did to start with, final sale price £125.
Here are some pictures;(sorry I took them all on iPhone)
Good find! Must admit I've never come across a Sport before, and I've been selling parts for Rovers for the last 8 years! Good luck with the project, not enough people out there saving Metros, bloody good fun cars to drive when all's said and done!
Just been out and had another play, the suspension was dropped on the back - hence why the owner parked it up.
So me and a freind got out the air line, located the vavle for the suspension units and tested them with air from the compresser, we put 100psi in and waited for about 30 mins to see if there where any leaks, when we went back to it we connected the pump back to the valve and the PSI remained the same so no leaks or anything.
Now just to put the correct pump into the vavle with the correct fluids etc and then it will sit how it was out of the factory.
Ive gave a local body panel place a call today to find out they cannot get or neither do they stock metro panels anymore! So now I'm on the look out for 2 wings in good condition and in red(to make job easier!) will be going for a big in the scrap yards but don't think ill jump onto anything.
Ben1 i have read your pm and will get back to you on this
Neil the reason i am breaking it is because i bought it for the engine as a spare for my Mini, i have found myself falling for this little GTa some what which has come as a suprise to me, but it drives like a go kart and is bags of fun, it was hit buy another car last month and when i get the funds from that i will break it as i have to many cars to deal with and i start a new job soon and wont have the time to keep them all on the road, it will also be a cat C insurance right off.
The 100psi we put into the hyrda units is no longer there, suspension on the rear moves up and down with no resistance at all, so now its to to check for leaks on the pipes - or even just make some new ones as the ones are pretty rusty, ill get a picture.
