We attended the meet at Meadowhall Retail Park and thought I'd share some photos for the ones that are interested.
In 1995 we bought the cab in almost standard form. It was bought with a ripped roof and paint stripper all over the bodywork. So the first paint job made it look like this.
Ran it like this for a while but soon got bored so some Mk4 bumpers got added to the mix.
Wheel change number 1, colour coded the bumpers, altered the grill, removed the spot and added some fogs.
Then in 1997 we decided we needed more. I'd never done any major bodywork before, but how hard could it be? It was sat like this for 4 years. Thats how hard it could be. lol.
Then finally end of 2001 we managed to get it finished. A nice set of 17" TSW Stealths were the wheel of choice.
Not long after, the tired old XR3i engine blew up and stepped to the side to make room for the RS Turbo Conversion. Same as the bodywork, I'd not really done much more that changing spark plugs but how hard could it be? Well to say it was a CVH replacing a CVH the car was 90% bare shell by the time we'd done. Everything from the fuel tank right up to the dashboard needed changing and everything in between.
If it don't fit, get the grinder out.
Back out, now turbo powered and some spanking new Cobra Sidewinders.
The next paint job was then chose and glitter was simply added to the original blue. Straight out the bodyshop, it looked wicked with no spoiler.
Cant remember why but we needed chrome in our life. So a set of Zenetti 18" were bought.
This new look got us our FAST FORD feature. The car looked wicked on this shoot.
The Zenetti's were a cool wheel BUT they couldnt take the british weather so they needed replacing. Next was a set of Wolfrace Icon+. The Hella headlights and my home made rear lights made an appearence at this juncture.
Still not content with leaving it as it was I decided to make a hard top. This lasted one show. lol.
Mid 2005 Clare was on her way to the 'O' and she lost a fight with a 38t lorry who slammed her into the central reservation on the A38. Destroying the front end and breaking a few ribs.
It took almost a year to get the money from the claim as the lorry driver ended up needing to go to court and was done for dangerous driving, and Clare ended up with a nice joicy cheque for the trouble. So we threw most of the money back at the cab. New bumpers, headlights, bonnet, the exhaust, candy paint and the infamous 20" chrome. Fitting 20" wheels to a car that should only have 14" on was not a simple job. This needed the adjustment of the bulkhead. Tools of choice was a grinder, lump hammer and a welder.
Now the Cab is looking more like what people remember.
2 years worth of stone chips forced us into doing something, so we decided to pay £350 for a vinyl wrap rather than £1000 on a new paint job. We should have saved up. lol.
Then last year we chose to change the cab drastically. And that when we went for the white, removed the chromes and went for some 19 Lenso (in several colour variations, white, black, black and white)
The Lensos didnt quiter cut it so we went back to the chromes for a bit. We missed them. lol.
Late last year we managed to sell the chromes and thats when we went for the image wheels and thats how it stands now.
We've had a long journey with the cab over the last 15 years, a few mistakes along the way and hopefully now we've just about got it right.
Alanman.
