This thread is to remember the great cars from great companies that are no more. This does not include names that are still around but owned by other companies. The brand has to have dissapeared. Also maybe we could add each companies last hoorah. I will start with the wonder of canley namely Triumph The wonderfull TR Vitesse mmm 2000 no slots but hopefully smaller and the swan song from the ailing compani The Tronda Acclaim.

The only ex Rover Group marques that BMW don't own are MG and Land-Rover - IIRC, even the Rover name is still in their ownership, and was licensed to MGR. There was however some egg on face a few years back when they thought that they owned the Austin-Healey name

If only the'yd use them. A cheap family car called an Austin? Going right back to their roots..

RIPs go out to: lots of old U.S. marquesYou forgot the Hudson subsidiary, Essex, defunct 1933. Essex were the first company to use warning lights in place of certain gauges on dashboards apparently:

They are indeed; Triumph originally was a bike company that later produced cars. The company had financial problems in the 30's and the bicycle and motorcycle businesses were sold, the latter to Jack Sangster of Ariel to become Triumph Engineering Co Ltd. So in effect, the motobike arm is the true Triumph company, despite BMW's legal protestations to the contrary.

NSU Motorenwerke AG, Their last models were the Ro80: [/img] And K70: Yes that's right kids, the K70 is an NSU to the bone, despite the VAG crowd thinking otherwise. VW merged the company with Auto Union, to eventually evolve into Audi as it is known today, and it gave VW engineers the know-how to plan for a FWD range to replace the then-archaic rear-engined cars. If it wasn't for this car, VW might well be in this thread too.

Zastava/Yugo, although it may be back in future years. Simca and, similarly, Talbot

I've probably got this one a bit wrong, as I believe the company has a hand in another company that sells Chevy Matiz's or the likes, but F.S.O as we know it, they're dead, right???

Obligatory Bond mention from me! Bought by Reliant in 1970 as the three-wheelers were competitors to their own cars, and the Equipe was seen as a competitor to the Scimitar. Reliant wanted the access Bond had to the Triumph dealership network (Bond sold the Equipe through Triumph dealers) but a huge shake-up / merger was under way at BLMC and the deal was off. The Bond name lived on for a bit in the Bond Bug but the Preston factory was closed and everything (moulds, paperwork, prototypes) bulldozed into the earth!

From memory (i was working for rover at the time of the split) BMW retained morris, triumph and I think Wolsey. Rover had MG, Austin and Riley (Riley and Wolsey may be the other way round)
