He said it /\ Buried somewhere on here is a thread with pics of the Volvo and this, it is pretty much what I played with in toy form when I was a kid ;D Keefy, the alloy beam is at the back in a box. I'm off to Kingfisher Kustoms on tuesday to pick up some more bits and maybe get Dave to build up the beam to save some time. But yeah, steak... I like your thinking, marinated in some soy sauce and olive oil. It's on... When I've got a pile of bits to assemble I'll shout

Thanks again, I plan to get it on the road before the Gathering. Plan being the operative word, as there is one this time. More parts on the way. Just a shame I have to work all weekend and drive nearly 900 miles too... Frustrating.

Two months eh? So what gives... I made it to Kingfisher Kustoms as I mentioned above, spent a small pile of money with Dave and came away with everything from discs and wheel bearings to a clutch, brake lines, shocks, engine mounts. Pretty much anything that was a consumable or rubber will be replaced. Buying it and fitting it are two different things though. This is my busiest time of year so hours spent on the buggy are rare. First hitch was my planned use of the T181 stub axles, as they require a unique lower balljoint, which I couldn't get in time. So for the meanwhile they're gathering more dust as I crack on. I took an angle grinder to the anti roll bar on the beam, stripped it down and attacked it with some this... Trouble is, I found this. But I have a welder, a modicum of skill and a big space to make sparks in. So I done fixed it Then a coat of satin black, which is what I have most of lying around. The stub axles and arms have all been sprayed now too. Whilst remouting the beam I managed to snap one of the four bolts that secures it to the head of the frame. Six hours and a very expensive drill bit later, it's now remounted, although I'm going to have to run a bolt right through the frame out as I stripped the thread and didn't want to cut another one. Right now it's almost back on its front wheels, the clutch is on the engine, the gearbox is all prepped ready to go back in too. More pics later, hopefully not too much later

Absolutely love the buggy fella! I don't suppose you fancy selling the split rims? I know its a long shot but you never know if you don't ask!
I'm building a hill climbing notch and have been looking for something along the lines of these wheels! or on the look out for outer lips that are 20 bolt so i can get my car roling.
lf you would sell the wheels let me know via a PM what prices you'd be looking for and if not, then thanks anyway n hope the build goes well!
cheers Andy

Spurred on by the beach buggy thread on the main page at the moment, I figured I owed an update.
Short story is it's not on the road yet.
Long story is I got carried away with the rebuild and completely stripped it back to a bare pan and welded in 75% of a new cage, I then rebuilt the engine, gearbox, front and rear suspension, brakes, seat mounts, whippy aerials... The whole lot.
It's currently been sat somewhere waiting for the wiring to be finished since mid June. It looks similar to my plans, but more together, better finished and more capable.
I'll go and see it in the next couple of days and grab some up to date pics.
Because we all need pics, right?

Proper buggy that! I've got an old Custom Car magazine somewhere in the loft from 1971 that has got a buggy feature which has one of these in the line-up. If I happen to find it..
Around here there's some shocking examples of the buggy genre gone wrong that look as though they were moulded by the apprentice's dog! Best stick with the classics eh?
