The original Fairlady arrived in 1959 but the later shape actually came out in 1962 ...the same year as the MGB was first launched. Fairlady styling has a lot of influences from other manufacturers for sure but it's not a direct copy of anything in particular. Mechanically it's quite different from most things, especially as it has a separate chassis. When the 2.0L version came out in '67 it really made the MGB look pretty lame. The solex carb'd version had 150bhp and was good for near 125mph. And it had a five speed box! Shame they were never sold here.
I have two of them but neither are roadworthy. One is very near..just need brake callipers and 5 mins of welding for an MOT. Next year I'll get it one the road. Hmm..I think I said that last year too
