Now, I know this board includes some very artistic members on here (rmad, Leigh, Slacker and Volksangyl I'm looking at you) so I was wondering if we would be interested in a Drawing thread similar to the Photoshop thread? I'm desperately trying to pick up the Pencil again but I'm not having much success with my results so far and I would imagine there are other members on here in a similar position. I don't know about you, but as convenient and as effective as Photoshop is it doesn't quite have the same effect as an old fashioned sketch. So what do we think? Do we want a Drawing thread? Think of it as Retro-Rides version of Street-Machine's old Motorvation pages or the sketching bit on Overhaulin' that Chip Foose does. If it takes off maybe we could set up a monthly competition or something or maybe even a Gallery at a future Gathering.

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

I also want to start drawing cars again. I used to be fairly good at it, but after maybe a 10 year gap I just can't get my hand to draw what I want it to lol.

Yeah, I did the odd one. Not very good because I was using crappy pencils and stuff found in my daughters toy box rather than actual proper stuff to draw with... A Somerset A Lada I have a bunch of these in the attic I did when I was at school, all kustom Standard Vanguards and the like.

I could never draw well enough in perspective to satisfy myself so stuck with side on views to help visualise ideas. I'd still like to build a slightly chopped Watson style Rapier....

Perspective and proportions are my main issue, even if I get the details right I'm rarely happy with the size and shape. Great to see some inspiration already though.

I'm completely in awe of people with these skillorz. I can do technical drawing, isometric etc, but I just draw 'artistically'
BTW Slacker, do you do commissions ? It's just occurred to me that a drawing of me in your monster style hanging out the window of my Merc would be a nice memento of it

Thanks for the mention ;D You've timed this well, I need to repopulate my portfolio with some automotive art now that I've caught up on the backlog of work I had. Here's a couple of oldies. Maybe the more talented folk could share some colouring tips, something I struggle to get right on car bodies.

Ha, good stuff Will! I always loved Motorvation in Street Machine too and I love seeing stuff in the likes of HotRod magazine, Traditional Rod&Kulture and Rod&Custom by Zombie, Steve Stanford, Jimmy Smith, Chris Froggatt, Foose, Thom Taylor, etc. I'm working on that essay you asked me for too but in the meantime I'll set these here (tooting my own trumpet here)

Like most it seems, I don't have make time to doodle. I do however spend time at work 'improving my work' when I need a break from what I should be doing For the interested, that's all done in Adobe Illustrator, by hand.
