Close it is a four-lamp model Singer Chamois Coupe. The original Chammy Coupes were two lamp shells (basically a Chamois spec Californian) and had "proper" wood, the four-lamp model got plastic wood the same as late model Chamois ... that is one thing that is to change The Chamois Sport was again a saloon (and I think came in two and four lamp versions). Mine confuses people as it has a Sport/Stiletto engine lid. Anyway I have been caught ... best get back to something car related eh Tim?

Well I was almost right! The Super Imp saloon got fake plastic wood, or the later ones like my two did in any case. (I wonder if they were made of the wood of cut down fake plastic trees? Alright so nobody except Radiohead fans got that one, "Fake Plastic Trees" is a Radiohead song! )

The 4-lamp Chamois sport was ultra rare - thing was, it had the same engine as the Sunbeam Imp Sport, the same trim (near enough) and all that was different between it and the Sunbeam was a few badges.... yet it was considerably dearer. I wonder why no-one bought them? ;D
4-lamp Chammy coupes are pretty rare - the two lamp ones were very well appointed inside and tended to be cherished by their owners. The later 4-lamp ones for many years were perceived as being the low-rent version due to the slightly poxy nature of the original trim. These days, thankfully people have woken up - you can always get rid of that dreadful Chrysler plastic and fit Recaros - plus thanks to the lack of vinyl on the roof pillars, they don't tend to suffer from the Stiletto rotten roof syndrome.
Right - enough yacking, Smith... get back to that garage and get that damned Chamois Coupe back on the road before the Scottish camping trip in April! ;D
Cheers Tim

These days, thankfully people have woken up - you can always get rid of that dreadful Chrysler plastic and fit Recaros - plus thanks to the lack of vinyl on the roof pillars, they don't tend to suffer from the Stiletto rotten roof syndrome. Funny you should say that, I'm in the process of stripping this shed's interior of all the plastic wood from the dash etc, and replacing it, along with the door cards and carpets, with aluminium and chequerplate! And those are Escort RS turbo Recaros in there, (from a mate of mine who was selling bits off his knackered RS turbo Escort) along with TRS 4 point harnesses, and are about to be joined by an alleybars roll-hoop (genuine retro, must have been made in the early 80s at the latest but it's in great condition, I don't have the money for a brand new full cage and this looks more period, when I get the thing into real motorsport I'll probably replace it with something welded in and more modern in design) Although mines' is the even lower rent Hillman Super Imp, but it has a sport spec engine in at the moment, although that's about to get replaced by the engine out of my racing super Imp.

Nice! RS Turbo Recaros sound familar as the seats in mine were "liberated" from a Series 1 RST ... well from Speed Shack in West Drayton

Cool, your car sounds great! I'm told that Fiesta XR2 seats fit in easier, and can be fitted to standard Imp runners, but I didn't see that being possible with these Escort seats, so I've made the runners for those out of parts of the Escort runners, which were wider, but attatched to parts of the Imp runners so that I didn't have to drill any more holes in the floor, you know to keep the strength in it etc, which means the seats still move to allow adjustment, and they still tilt to let me in the back to get stuff in and out etc, since I use the car as a road car as well. Only thing is that the seats now tilt in two places, at the runners like an Imp seat, and in the middle of the seat like an Escort, but it doesn't matter!

OOH! There's a pic of your SAAB in our gallery... I took it at Mallory Park not long ago! Just spotted your post, apologies for the delay - I was at Mallory with SGM - placed 2nd and 7th on the day IIRC - the 2nd place car was in its first season and the 7th placed car was on its first time out with no setup on it at all - Black Nova 1400 (168bhp) and Black Astra 2 litre 8V(201bhp). Nice to see the old T16 got noticed Note the paint flaking off the grill - I was at Brunters the weekend before and the frontend was peppered with debris whilst chasing other cars down the straight If you see it out and about again pop and say hello! Matt

When i was looking at getting one, i was wanting a chrome bumper but i could get a much better rubber bumper for the money. Plus being a late one, you get anti roll bars and better steering (less turns lock to lock). I'm preparing it for track days, soon to be dropped a few inches and i've got a rear roll cage ready fit:) and already got 3 point harnesses fitted. People still say you have got an 'ugly' rubber bumper one but its really grown on me loads since i've had it. Ugly i don't think so

Sounds like it'll be great when it's done! As I said I think the rubber bumpers on a BGT are quite nice, although the roadster is nicer with chrome bumpers, the Midget is the same way.

Your imp should be pretty cool once you have stripped it out and trimmed it with some nice shiney alluminium!
