Thanks for kindness guys! I got an interior I like now, the blue went as the drivers seat was shot. £50 was about right. New one is audi sport cloth, not mint but very good and comfy. Audi didnt do a sport tdi avant, but if they did I think it would be very much like this. The car is doing its job well, my girlfriend uses it during the week for work and at weekends I go everywhere in it, realy good mpg 55ish , a nice car to drive.

Also, almost forgot..i bought another 80 Avant, a V6 SE. I think the lights bumper trims and fogs will be stolen for this one. I am using it only to get to work while the 944 is being sorted, then it will either get a paint/rims and suspension or sold or broken for spares. It has a full Audi service history upto 1000 miles ago! The interior is timewarp clean and it has cream velour sports seats! The engine bay isnt too shabby either oil pressure? Its a well cared for car drives as new, rust free shell and somone has kept the brake and fuel lines coverd in greese (audi technician?) But the front wings are rotten and it has a random stalling issue so its fate is unknown, but the lights are going here-

great thread mate, are you on the classic audi forum? i like the old audi 12v v6 engines. your is the "abc" v6 i think? ive got an audi 100 2.8 "aah" quattro i cant wait to get on the road in the new year.
your cutting out problem..... have you had a look in the engine ecu relay and fuel pump relay for any dry joints?

Thanks murran, I like the old v6 too, gents engine.. For the cutting out i have- Changed the crank sensor ECU temp sensor Ignition amplifier Changed the fuel relay (which i thought was also for ecu/ign?)
Ive checked the vac to ECU pipe, tried unplugging lamdas and cam sensor - no difference. Its had new coil pack and idle valve and ive checked the throttle body, its minty clean.
For the first time ever, i cant fix it. i give in... Is there a seperate ECU relay? i expect it is a dry joint somwhere.
Another clue- on the ABC v6, if you disconnect the battery or managment when you next start the engine the idle fluctuates quickly between 1000 & 1600 rpm. My car does this if the engine is cold when it cuts out - this suggests a moment of disconection on the management somwhere.

I wonder if you could be loosing the ground to the relay. you could set up a test light to the switched live to the ecu? but then....as you said, after it cuts out it seems to idle like the ecu has been disconnected..... I don't think the cutting out is to do with this relay as this isnt responcible for it. there are perm lives into the ecu to keep the basic setting in the memory. when you unplug the ecu it looses these and has to re-learn them. www.isham-research.co.uk/quattro/wiring/TypB4/05_einspritzung_lamdasonden.jpgthat wire there on the top left. I wonder what that is? "d10" plug. I wonder where that is? smells of ecu fault this.

Thanks for the boost guys!
Murran, ive just noticed the full audi service history has never included a fuel filter! I looked under the car and the filter looks to be as old as the car, long shot but worth a try... I thought ECU but id sooner break it than buy a chip for the key & ECU.

Best daily ive owned, ive now got plans to build another but on a much higher budget. Cannot think of another car which has 60mpg, classic insurance, easy modding, relable well built, easy to work on blah blah. I have decided to cut my losses on the green one, ive swapped the V6 front onto the tdi, and its probably getting broken up. There were plugs for the foglights on the TDI but there was nothing for the switch to plug into in the car, so audis are not quite as good as BMWs. They were too tight to fit the loom for items not fitted! Anyhow, looks much nicer, I just need a coupe (not s2/v6) bumper to finish it off. Also I have orange indicators now, not sure what to do. If I buy new clear ones they will look wrong against the aged fogs, I may leave them orange. (could refurb the fogs) This has the bumper I want and the oranges look good too- img840.imageshack.us/img840/6465/b4g2.jpg [/img]

just read through this again, realized I hadn't commented on it which is strange as I always click any updates... anyhow, you've done an amazing job, every-things coming together great and looking stunning! when you come to break the V6 let me know, theres a whole bunch of plastic bits I could do with, plus maybe all four suspension strut housings.. (also, I'm now hunting for some different wheels thanks to you, as yours look great, been thinking Keskin KT1 for a while but you've now sold me on them )

Thanks Ray. I will let you know, its fate is still untold. Keskin KT1s were almost my choice, nice. This thread is fairly breif, if I had known it would get so much praise I would have shown more detail. Its no perfect, many light scratches and the rear seat doesnt match..many other little things that I could have sorted with a little more effort. It didnt seem worth it as it was a budget daily hack. (under 1k so far) I mentioned refurbing the faded fogs. To get the lenses off I bung them in the oven for 5 mins to soften the bond, then used a wide flat blade to separate the glass. If you try this cold they will break. Couple of coats of heat proof aluminium- Now i can buy some clear indicators

didnt think these had transponder immoblizers?
seems a shame to break it tbh.
have a nosey in the ecu for dry joints would be my first call if that relay looks fine.
