Oh my! That's lovely!! Bookmarked!! MAF - is there a version of that engine with a MAP sensor you could fit? I guess that would safe a lot of space? I'll watch this closely Cheers, Jan

This is the final ( i hope ! ) trial fit of everything before the engine comes out for the last time, I really underestimated how long it would take to do the "little" bits - making the brackets for the brake servo, header tank, power steering header tank........................ The engine sits a lot lower than the old rover V8 leaving lots of room for the supercharger. Have a look at www.bulletcars.com for the planned supercharger install. Things seem to be progressing but the to do list never gets shorter! The fuel tank is away at Wisbech Engineering at the moment having a sump fabbed and fitted so i don't need a lift pump and swirl pot. Have been really impressed with the service from them so far, i'll post pictures of the work in the new year once i've picked the tank up.

Looking ace!
I was going to ask what size the tyres were on the rostyles as they look just right mine are way to skinny esp for radials, 'but' if your going with the Jeep ones, i could buy them if you don't want them for spares?
Good move relocating the servo, have you kept the resevior under the wing, i though you were gonna stick the lot under the wing when i saw how little space you were working with, (i shall never winge about changine starter motors or manifolds on these ever again!)
Cant wait to see the supercharger install, the only thing i'd change would be the exhaust cans, just a couple of slash cut decent bore pipes would look much better one each side muscle car style to show it's not standard!

Cheers for the comments, the rostyles have 205/70/15 on them at the moment which if you listen to the boys on the p5 forum are somewhere between plain wrong and dangerous . Once the cars on the road and i know how it handles on the jeep wheels i will be getting shot of the rostyles so you are welcome to them when the time comes. I took the vacuum tank out from under the drivers wing and plan on plumbing it in under the passenger wing at a later date - its not easy to get to at the moment. I did think about slash cut pipes for the exhaust but i like the look of the carbon cans although they will sit higher than the single one does at the moment. The idea was to keep it looking outwardly stockish untill you take a closer look and then it becomes obvious its not normal ;D

Picked up the fuel tank from Wisbech Engineering today, they've fabbed and fitted a sump to it- much cheaper and neater than a lift pump and a swirl pot. Also took the engine and gearbox out for hopefully the last time. I've had niggly doubts about the steering rack mounting. I think its strong enough and am happy with the welds but still cant shake the doubts so its coming out. I've starting making the new crossmember, its going to be much more substantial than the last one.

Some progress has been made on the rack mounting subframe, Top plate is cut and tacked together, The front vertical piece has also been cut out and tacked in place, And the bottom section started, The plan is to seam weld the top and two sides together as one piece, weld the bottom to the car and then join it altogether. that should give the easiest access for welding on the car.

Steering rack is a bmw e36 ( 3 series?). The rack was the right width and fit in with the steering geometry. Google "bumpsteer" for the reasons why. This one also has the advantage that the rack comes in 3 different ratios. There was a quick rack fitted to the Z4, 2.4 turns lock to lock i think, a 2.7 and a 3.0 although i cant remember what one they were fitted to. The rover is a wafting cruiser so i opted for the 2.7. The quick rack was tempting but i think it would make passengers sea sick. Putting in a complete clip may be easier as the hard work sorting out the geometry is already done for you. I wont know if ive got mine right untill its on the road. The initial tests for bump steer look promising so far so hoping it'll be ok.

It may be a little too robust - its a bit of a test pice aswell. I wanted to see if i could make a crossmember like the old escort rally jobs. At the moment the engine mounts are separate from the crossmember and are welded to the subframe but will be part of the crossmember on the Mk3 version. I also want to be able to bolt it in using the anti roll bar mounts.

I managed to get the rear vertical piece done today, just two more pieces to make and then it can be seam welded and fitted. Its getting there slowly. The deadline to have it roadworthy for the first weekend in july is still not looking do-able. buuuutt now that the decorating at the coffee shop is finished, i hope to get a move on.

Quick update, have finished the subframe crossmember for the steering rack, Which looks like this when painted, and now simply needs one of these throwing in the hole,
