Blimey, i kept dithering over weather to transplant a different engine into mine, i was toying with the idea of a Jeep/chrysler 4.7 nice and small but still pokey and sounds right..
Yours is gonna be something different for sure, though working on it in situ might be interesting, it really does fill the bay...

Fill the bay ?? Still have to find room for, Header tank (subaru) Power steering tank ( toyota ) Washer bottle (rover ) Remote oil filter ( mocal ) MAF Sensor ( lexus ) Air filter Transmission oil cooler ( monkey bike ) Brake servo ( Rover P5B ) I think finding neat tidy homes for this lot is going to be hard, I want it to look like its always been there.

Have you considered a BMW trans cooler???
E36 autos have a very thin cooler that bolts to the front of the rad

Nice novel conversion, and loving the 'Rolex' tag! Should be quite a bit pokier and better on juice than the original engine, I'd imagine.
I guess you'll need to uprate the old leaf springs out back to cope though...

Thanks for the heads up dubmonkey, will have a measure up next time i'm at the breakers. The lexus engine doesnt produce much more torque than the old Rover V8 so the leaf springs and original rover axle are staying for this year. I have a Jensen Interceptor rear axle with lsd and disc brakes which will be fitted with four bar links and a watts linkage next winter in readiness for the supercharger. ;D

Are the looks staying fairly standard? I can remember there being a stock looking P4 that used to run at the drags with a hot small block Chevy in, was rapid and looked so out of place going fast.

awesome, must work on mine more....
at least you can wind the front torsion bars down easily to compensate for the lighter engine....
Supercharger...!!! i'm almost fascinated where you're gonna put it!

are you a member of the club?
Surprisingly they are very receptive to mods, there's a couple of 'old gits' as with any one make classic club, but when i said i was going to put a yank V8 in mine they asked me to help write a feature on it!

The interior of the car is going to remain totally standard, whilst the outside has had some subtle mods, The old sidelights are now the front indicators with the remains having been removed, the rear lights have been modded too with the addition of a fog light and the 'over plate' light removed and light bolts fitted. The reverse light is where the reflectors used to be between the rear indicators and brake lights. The side repeaters have been removed to give the car a generally cleaner look. The biggest give away to the cars intentions will be the twin yamaha R1 exhaust cans sticking out the back.

I found this too with the Aussie Rover club, the old blokes are just hoons! One guy was hinting that I should go all out and build up a traco style P76 motor, "should be good for at least 500HP" I love it! Most have got a standard Rover that they've restored and then an absolute sleeper Q car. (like Stags with stroker motors etc). I like this build a lot! (I want to build a two door p5b gasser.)

Progress has been painfully slow for the last few weeks, had a chance to see how the new wheels will fit though, They fill the arches quite well. Imagecave ate my previous photos so ive tried to replace them with ones from photobucket, so some wont match the commentery.

Excellent idea and an excellent name!
Already looking good, should be fabulous when you’re done!
You keeping the bumpers for a sleeper vibe? Top stuff either way!

My, that's a wonky looking fan on the original engine. Great project though, everyone loves a nice comfortable barge to waft around in
