That's a pretty good idea. I wish I'd thought of it before I threw my old bottle away...

Nice idea - I might just nick that one.
My lazy cheapo version is a squash bottle with two lengths of garden hose stuck in the top - one from the crankcase and one to the carb. Most of the fumes end up in the carb.

Fitted it today, I'll get some pictures up, looks alright! Doesn't appear to have stopped the blue smoke under acceleration, but I'll check the new air filter fitted today in a couple of weeks to see if theres any less 'oiling'

a catch-can doesn't remove virtually ANY oil vapour from the crankcase fumes..... You'd need a far far greater surface area, with cooling (alloy case, with airflow over it, etc) to remove even 20% of the oilly vapours
Catch-cans do look pretty mind you

93fxdl : I do have the correct cap and no other breathers seem blocked, but thanks for the suggestion. Chairchild : I agree, I don't actually think it'll do anything.

sure its not valve stem seals ? I've been told this many times, but have absolutly no idea what to do about it, or how much it'd cost? A friend explained they (Stem Seals) wipe excess oil from the pistons?? and if they're shot then the oil gets through and is burnt?? Sounds wrong.

Stem seals are a relatively simple job. It's simply the seals around the inlet/exhaust valves which prevent oil in the head from getting into the combustion chamber. When they wear, they allow oil from the head to get burnt along with the fuel, hence the blue smoke.
It's a case of whipping the head off, pulling the valves and renewing the seals.
However, I believe that stem seals usually show up as blue smoke upon starting, and on overrun, rather than on accelaration.
Blue smoke on accelaration is either excess oil into the carb breather, or -more seriously- piston ring wear. It could also be a head gasket failure where the fail is between an oilway and a cylinder.

However, I believe that stem seals usually show up as blue smoke upon starting, and on overrun, rather than on accelaration. Actually what I discribed as acceleration, would be from a stop. Its everytime I pull away from lights for instance, or if I rev the engine, on the down revs the smoke pops out. So sounds like stem seals then. I'm gonna google the procedure....Thanks.
