I think i have the best job in the world. every little boys dream and i have it.
I am a FIREMAN in stavanger norway.
here we have a lot of new equipment to choose from ,arial ladders, pumpers, fast respons units with high pressure pumps, hazmat and rescue divers vehicles.
But my favorite is an old parade truck,
I present to you all
PETER PIRSCH 1937 FIRE TRUCK
Truck was ordered in 1937 by council of stavanger from Peter Pirsch company in united states.
a company making firetrucks of all sizes then.
the truck survived the war and was in duty until 1961.
An open truck in this climate ? what where they thinking?
Anyway the truck survived all these years an at one time it appeared in front of the parade celebrating 17.may our independence day.
It became an institution for the truck to always be in front of the parade.
it was the trucks only assigment in many years., but became very tired at the end .
So in 1996 the council earmarked some money to restore the truck, so it could continue it duty as a parade car.
I don't have pictures of the rebulid , but it was a big job done by all the crew at the firehouse for a year.
engine rebuilt and brakes done , whole body sanded and repainted ,gold decor pinstriping hand made by 2 talented crewmembers.
Painted by my father in fire engine red.
The trucks now is fully functional and we have a club to maintain this truck an some others now of duty.
This truck now participate in parades all over Norway, at meetings and anniverserys of other brigades.
Look and admire, it is the only one we know of in europe.
and one of the best preserved fire engines in scandinavia.
Best part, I get to drive it ;D
