I'm surprised (but pleased), given the scarcity of parts, that you're making any progress at all!
At least I can get most of what I need on-line. I Imagine it's not always that simple for some 1969 Luton tin.
Be great to see this finished one day.

You are correct though the Viva Club and the interweb and the fact that the previous owner stripped three or more other cars is a big help. The biggest issue is that, since the car came dismantled, i have no idea where many parts go, or what they are even for - the club is a huge help. After that, shipping everything to and fro across the Atlantic gets costly. I have sold some surplus parts but shipping is brutal.

Alas no. Work, family, weird summer, son's wedding, cold winter.... Pick one. Mostly just a lazy putz. Time to get back to it though. Thanks for the prod.

Well, thanks for checking up on me - finally pulled my thumb out and got into the garage - SWMBO was at Book Club and Darling Daughter at work - so peace reigns! And, the temperature isn't terrible (3 deg C) Only got an hour or so in but, got started back on the front suspension - not too much to show for it - mostly remembering where I put things six months ago and then how it goes back together but, got the one spring located properly - which had become a very big deal in my mind - turned out to be a five minute job. Still, progress is progress - and onward we go! Proof.

I had an email from the guy I bought the Viva from - asking about when he had sold it to me - realized I am now four years into a two year project! Realized I need to get on this on a regular basis - for the car's sake but for my own as well. Just the act of puttering on these cars is a major stress reliever, but, I digress.
This week I have been trying to sort out the wire harness - I had purchased part of a derelict car and pulled the harness - about 90% intact and spent the last couple of nights labelling and organizing.
The car did come with a wire harness - three actually - so, last night I went to take a look at them (mostly as reference points and possible to scavenge connectors) - The previous harnesses are in 17 pieces! 17! and all just cut and hacked. I know it wasn't the previous PO - but, who does that? There wasn't even enough information to have a new harness patterned from the old.
sheesh.

Won't be much exciting about checking continuity and cleaning connections, so, thought a little "Show & Tell" would keep this thread going. Bought this last week ($50!) - Haven't sorted out quite what to do with it yet - but, I am told it works (and it came out of a garage). On the left is a gas tester that also came with it. Oh and a manual! In the garage, the guy had two cars - '66 GTO (probably my dream muscle car! and an Amphicar. cheers!

No real Viva update - the wire harness is all repaired, tested and ready to be taped - then the weather got cold and I couldn't be bothered. Then, finally warm again and the first show of the year (and first swap meet) So, switched gears and got the MG ready for the season - had decided to change the oil pump as it was the only thing I hadn't done when I freshened the engine. That and some electrical stuff - some which I got working (the headlights) others I finally gave up (one horn or the other works but not both). Oh and a new battery! Anyway, great trip out to the show - lots of thumbs ups and pictures - and I almost made it - almost! This is me about 5 miles away you can't see it but a sudden complete loss of oil pressure (and oil as it turned out) No visible cause till I got the car on stands and, tada: spot the difference: stripped thread - and peed out all the oil - I actually heard it ping as it left the car. The good news is that it is relatively easily repairable - either tap a bigger hole or a helicoil - we will see. Hopefully on the road by the weekend.

well, finally, progress! First a pathetic car confession, the Vauxhall has spent most of the last year or so looking like this in the garage. But, forlorn is not forgotten and finally some work took place inside the house So, spot the difference. I wrapped the wires in cling wrap before taping so, hopefully if I do need to repair anything the tape won't be stuck to the actual wires - though I did most carefully ensure that all the smoke was back in the harness before taping. Then out to the garage and emptied the car - so, hopefully will start assembling the car in the next few days - finally putting parts on instead of taking them off.

Cool projects! Love your Multipla. I did the metalwork on a restoration of one for a buddy long time ago. Came across a project multipla here in AZ a couple of months ago ( actually a package deal of 3 incomplete cars that could make a nice one with a 'bit" of work ) I was tempted for a split second, while my mind went to something like this. ( to tow my Fiat racers with...

That sounds like it must have been awkward! Why didnt you use non adhesive loom tape?

A couple of reasons, with tape i could source it locally and it was cheap - my experience of non adhesive is that it periodically explodes into a pile of coils - much like movie projector film - and the wrap was actually pretty easy and quick.

Once again, too long with updates - not enough has happened though I recently sorted all my parts and realized to my great joy that I don't have a lot of parts left. The wire harness is in though not fully connected. Today, in starting back to it - went to my MG part guy - got various clevis pins, brake connectors etc - and an MG Midget fuel tank sender which I think will work as the original is shot. Also, brake hoses - which, you will note perfectly describe a GT on this side of the ocean! (his label!) Untitled by John-Peter Smit, on Flickr
