suprisingskoda- That bike looks amazingly cool! and it is really good that you won't get rid that is the same as me with mine. You should get out and ride it though you will have a load of fun. Today was a right nice day so I decided right away that I would be going out on the bike. I havent used it all week as I have been working early so it was dark which apparently (according to a friendly policeman) it is illegal to ride a bike in Germany with no lights on so I have been getting the train. So this afternoon I took these Accompanied with my Discman and headed here Its a few small ramps underneath a bridge and it is always really quiet there as there are some pretty great parks around the city so people don't seem to use this one. I would love to write here that I rode like DMC himself but that would be a lie. I was pretty terrible and I think as you grow up you get a bit more fear but man I had some fun. I had been there around 45 mins and I was knackered then a guy who could ride came along so I left as I didnt want to make a total fool of myself! On the way home I photographed this Which seems to be abandoned behind this I need it in my life! It is just so cool and it has been there now for around 6 months that I know of. When I returned home I gave the bike a clean off and another polish and man does it shine! I am so happy with the way it is starting to look right now so happy infact that I have kept it in my living room rather than putting it in the cellar were it belongs! After that I cracked open this to celebrate. I have also sorted out some brake cables to replace the snapped one and the snapping one as trainer brakes are starting to get costly. Rob

Holy thread Resurrection!! Yes I know it's an old thread but I have finally got round to getting this in shape. I have been riding very regularly in the past 2 years and can even do a few jumps and stuff. I have just payed for a new wheel on eBay, this one in fact... ...and am going to spend the winter getting it looking respectable. I have found a guy who can replicate the vinyl stickers so once I have received those I can strip it down and get it looking new again, 13 years after I first got it. I will try and keep this thread updated as I go. Rob

This is a great thread, ive just dug my BMX out after 12 years just getting back into the swing of things. Still got big balls, no fear and just enough skill to make passable attempts at tricks. Managed to never break a bone in 28 years, pretty sure that's gonna end soon lol.

Awesome! In 2000 I was 17, in 6th form and who knows what I was doing otherwise, probably trying to do everything all at the same time... Anyway, I had a Haro Ultra that I was banned from riding by my mother after I fractured my elbow riding down a steeeep hill in Brighton with no brakes - this is not a sensible combination, BMX + no brakes = trouble in my book!
I then got a really old school BMX that I built up so I could still hang out with my BMX riding buddies, and now (at last) I am in the process of stripping and rebuilding the Ultra to try to get back into riding again - because riding a BMX is awesome and there is a skatepark that is a) just up the road and b) on the way home from work :-)
I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only person who has dreams of becoming a teenager again by polishing their BMX's :-)

Thanks everyone for the replies, it's good to hear that I am not the only one who is pushing 30 and still riding round on a childs bike. After a week of getting excited every time I saw a DHL truck my new (to me) wheel arrived yesterday. It is in mega good condition so will just get he metal polish out over the weekend and polish it up real nice! Here is photo evidence of the new wheel. PA120451 by Bowling Racecar Driver, on Flickr

Awesome! That's the great thing about BMX it really is for all ages. Also all of my friends where metal heads and couldn't understand my love for songs that lasted a maximum of 3 minutes! This is what my living room currently looks like. My girlfriend is super impressed with our new ornament!

Over the weekend I set about fitting my new wheel only to find that the hub didn't fit my forks. That was a bit annoying, but not to be beaten I decided to swap my old hub into my new wheel so stripped down both wheels to just rim, spokes and hub. Then on Sunday afternoon my girlfriend went out to watch a bit of horse racing so, armed with coffee and a few favourite CD's, I tackled this lot. I have never rebuild a bike wheel in my life so I searched on Google and found a right good guide for it. I think it only took me around 40 minutes to assemble but of course it is in no way true, so my next job is to get it trued. I am tempted to have a crack myself but I have also been told that it is super cheap at any bike shop so may get lazy! I can't wait to get it back together and get back out for the last few rides of the year!

It's a lot harder to true a wheel that's been built untrue, so I'd give it to a bike shop if I were you! If you start with a new rim and the correct length spokes, wheelbuilding isn't that hard, but it fits take a bit of practise. I love the thread, when I was a kid I had a Raleigh Aero Pro that my dad won in a competition. I stupidly sold it (for not much) to help pay for a cheap nasty MTB (my mates all rode MTB). I don't know why I didn't appreciate it at the time - it was totally awesome and there's no way we would have been able to afford something half as good. I wish I hadn't sold it, not because it would be worth money now, but simply 'cos I can't justify buying something that good again. It's probably the best bike I've every had (if you compare it to other similar bikes of their era). This is what it looked like (not my actual bike): When I was at uni I sort of inherited a really heavy GT BMX - I used it, and carted it around for a few years before giving it to my brother in law. I think he passed it on when he realised just how heavy it was up cornish hills! Trying to convince my 5yo daughter she wants a BMX - I'll have an excuse to get one too then (might have to get rid of my unused bike polo bike). If I can't get one a bit like the one pictured above, I fancy taking a totally beat up old school bike and giving it new paint and a new lease of life. There seem to be quite a few candidates for that on eBay. Cheers Duncan

It is amazing what we get rid of as kids. We (my brothers and I) had a full chrome diamond back when I was around the age of 8. We got it from a car boot sale for something stupid like a tenner! It was the first BMX I ever rode but then my brother sold it as he wanted an MTB because all the kids had MTBs in the 90's!
Yesterday I took the wheel to my local BMX shop to get trued. The shop is really cool and is inside of an indoor skate park, the guy who runs it is also super cool and said he can sort my wheel and that I have threaded one side right and one side wrong. He was also well impressed that I am still riding a Mid-School bike and also that I had female hubs not the usual males! Anyway I left the wheel with him and said I will collect next Saturday and on asking how much it will cost he just said "if you want to pay call i 10 euro"! Once home I decided to take off my rear wheel for a polish up and then noticed a bit of surface rust on the frame where the chain has been catching and taken the paint of so that will have to be addressed soon!
Thanks for reading here is a video of DMC riding in 2014 to prove that old dudes can ride!

Ahh good ol dmc making that 900 look like a 360 hahah..... I always preferred matt Hoffman in my earlier days ,also still ride now @ 37 hahah kids look at me odd when I turn up at most parks until I warm up a bit and throw a few tail whips .. Also still ride with benny l occasionally when he's back home and not partying , currently have a colony bike and one of benny l,s prototype frame from fitbikes he was given before they went into production ... Only difference at my age now is that when I fall I don't bounce like I used to as a 13yr old kid I just tend to crumple and generally hurt lots Btw great bike mate looks well

Oh yeah the 90s selling BMX's for Mountain bikes. Guilty of that by guilty I mean I ditched the BMX in favour of the new 15 speed mountain bikes. The BMX sat in the bottom of the garden for years before being thrown in the skip when the garden was cleared.
I to had a Raleigh Burner Aero and had no idea of what it was back then, all I knew it had 5 spoke mag wheels in yellow that I liked but faded like hell.

This is a fantastic thread! I also ride a Bmx, has been a big part of my life since picking one up at 21yrs old! Long story, but one that's seriously opened my eyes to the great world out there.. (I'm very lucky to have been all over the world riding my "kids bike" aha) DMC was a hero of mine (the 900tap part of my forum name is a trick he invented and I chased for years to learn) I ride most days, wether a curb or skatepark, the only thing a chase is a smile, no matter the trick, line, if it makes you smile, it's a job done right! ZXrob, that place looks like loads of fun! Your bike is coming on great! Don't be shy of sticking around if other riders turn up at a park mate, most just love riding, who Evers riding, and what ever the skill level, long as your having fun.. Here's my current park bike.. Excuse the cold, bunged up nose?

Hi Ray, Thanks for the very kind words! I am a terrible rider but I love riding and have loads of fun which, to me, is the most important thing. Your bike is super cool I love the platform on the frame, very 90's! As I work as a mechanic in Germany this time of year is super busy what with people needing to switch over to winter tyres so that means I have to work 13 hours a day every day so I have had no time to collect my wheel! But today I have the afternoon free so I drove over to the coolest BMX shop in the world (Crow BMX Store Cologne) and picked up my wheel. The guy didn't want to charge me his words being "just buy me a drink if you ever see me in a bar" but he has done an amazing job of trueing my wheel so I gave him 10 euros for it. So here it is for the first time in 8 years my kids bike has a shiny front wheel! I can't wait to get out on it tomorrow! Not looking bad for a 14 year old kids bike! Thanks for reading! Prost!
