Oh, and for completeness' sake, a few shots of the Dolly. 104th last off the line apparently, and proper old giffer spec. All the stamps in the book, plus a handwritten note of every carb adjust, oil change, new tyre etc etc, carrying on to fill the book and several sheets of paper from 1980 to 2006 with the original owner. It's a lovely thing, totally unmessedwith and- until last year- all but unwelded despite having done over 100k miles. It's now had the front corners of the boot, extending into the bits you can see red leaded on the arch, and needs a smattering to both bottom corners of the front valance where it meets the wing and that's it. The floorpans were mint. Including my feet! In contrast, "Mud" has had countless panels replaced or repaired. I do have the original "Passport to Service" though. The (free) 1000 mile service is stamped and... that's it ;D

I like your Marina estate. I don't think this model made it over to Germany. Is it ex-MOD with that colour? A 70s secret weapon!

No, you probably had more sense than to buy them ;D
There's a very nice one in Norway I believe, and a couple of others on the continent, but I don't know of any in Germany. Not many Mk1 estates left full stop now sadly.
As for the colour, any resemblance to NATO green is purely coincidental! It's actually a factory BL colour, Tundra, and the chap responsible for painting her has actually commented on the thread. She was originally blue- the vents on the rear pillars and a few other areas still show this. I've thought about changing the colour but I think the colour is part of her character.

For the first time in my ownership- she now has four doors than open from both inside and outside! Still only has three working windows, but small steps and all that...

As of about 4pm this afternoon, we have an MOT... see you on the beach!
Failed yesterday on wipers not wiping very well, insufficiently secured battery, and a blowing exhaust joint (manifold to downpipe). New blades, fitting the right sized battery and replacing the bungee with an actual bracket, and regunking the joint got us the pass. Chuffed with that, given she'd been sat up for 6 months virtually untouched. Only advisories were a very slight blow at the backbox, and some slight corrosion to the floor (around one of the drain bungs which isn't there- it's just gone slightly frilly around the edge). Alan did a cracking job of welding the driver's side inner sill and A pillar before the test, at some point I'll ask him nicely to have a look at that too!

Hmm, it's been a while since I've posted here... Said Marina is currently sat on the in law's drive looking decidedly sorry for herself. I ran her for 6 months over the Summer and we went on a few adventures, including a run down to the Marina Club Nationals down in Devon. Despite running up over Dartmoor in the silly heat, traffic chaos on the M5 etc she was good as gold throughout. Met up with a few other surviving Marina & Ital estates while we were down there, as well as a fair few other Marinas- the very yellow pair are both "Jubilee" special editions. Anyway, despite still being in ticket the amount of oil pouring from seemingly every orifice of the engine- I suspect mostly from pressurising the crankcase- meant I parked her up once the tax ran out at the end of summer. However all is more positive than it looks, thanks to a payout from work (bribery to change our pension schemes) at some point in the final quarter of next year she'll be heading over to a restoration shop on the IoW, the owner of which has a soft spot for Marinas (that's just a slight understatement) and which has turned out some incredibly nice cars (by Marina standards). "UMC" in the photo above was done by him. I've spent the summer collecting panels and we are now nearly there- I do need a driver's side rear quarter and an estate rear valence should anyone have such a thing... The spare room looked like this a few months back; I can no longer get in there with a camera! As part of the restoration she will be made up to "TC" spec, with all the trim bits (extra bling mostly!) as well as the twin csrb engine. I've been collecting bits for this too- they never made TC estates so stainless trim for the rear doors is a bit hard to come by- luckily a friend is breaking an Ital estate which happened to be fitted with this little lot: And that brings us pretty much up to date- still deciding on some of the details (like colour!), I need to rebuild the rear axle this summer as I have a pair of new, decambered springs to go on which will be fitted when the rear spring hangers are replaced during the resto but other than that she will hopefully be coming back "home" around March (once I've made some room in the garage, and sold the Volvo) to start being stripped down ready for her holiday on the Island. She won't be lonely though when she comes home, as this has landed on the drive recently... But that one might get it's own thread. Plan is to get it on the road (missing one or two essentials) to replace the 240 as my regular transport over Summer Oh- and the Dolomite? Still not finished... That's #1 priority as we're down to do the Club Triumph Round Britain Reliability Run in October & it might be an idea to get a few miles on it beforehand... It's getting there though.

Is that orangey Marina the one that was on eBay with no engine or box but that looked otherwise spotless? If so, top save. Pleasing to hear Mud is getting a full resto, I actually hope you're keeping the funny colour she currently wears.

there is a marina estate the same colour in a metal recycling yard in Fleetwood Lancs. Would be good for spares. Its in Foulds metals.Access might be an issue as its been mounted on a 30ft pole to advertise the building.

Mr Vulgalour, it is indeed that one, I bought it from Charles Ware's Morris Minor Centre in Bristol, who transplanted the engine & auto 'box into a Minor. I have a recon 1300 manual 'box lurking in the garage so the hunt is just on for a rwd format 1300 engine. The shell is in fantastic condition (it's even still MOT'd!) and I've got all the history with it still which is nice, I thought they might keep it with the engine. As for Mud's colour, well it's not original anyway (which is blue), and although it is one option it's not my favourite (and nor is the blue). I'd quite like it to be a correct colour for '74, and to have the interior the right colour for the exterior, and for it not to have a brown dashboard! I'd also like it to be a unique colour on a surviving Mk2 estate. Black tulip with red interior is leading at the moment. billybob, are you a previous owner? I'm really looking forward to her getting the Frank treatment, I kind of feel she deserves it- unlike most surviving Marinas she seems to have lasted this long through continuing to be useful as opposed to through being a pampered pet! I'm hoping Frank will keep a photographic progress log on FMM, and will let me copy some of the piccies onto here. tineca, that's interesting- didn't think there was another this colour! I'm pretty sorted for second hand spares, my friend's Ital (spectacularly rotten, but otherwise quite tidy) has yielded a fair few useful bits and pieces of trim, and there's not actually much that's estate- specific. Cheers folks

There are a couple of V8 ones floating about actually- a friend has a Mk1 Coupe (the saloon is a Mk2 incidentally, play spot the difference, it won't take long...) with a 3.9efi Rover in, pestering him to get it on the road for next summer. A few pick- ups have been done as well, plus the rally cars.
But that one will be staying completely original I'm afraid, with the exception of the manual conversion it'll be exactly as it left the factory. The estate will be the modified one, sort of OEM+ (yo) with the TC bits on, slightly lowered, ital front suspension set up (telescopic dampers in lieu of lever arm, I have a set to refurbish), some mild engine work etc, although it will all be period.
At some point I will do a modified one, I have a hankering for a very low Mk3 (rubber bumper) saloon on 7" wide steels with chunky tyres, with the 1700 O series swapped out for a Perkins Prima, and an LT77 gearbox. With a bit of tweaking it should give a similar amount of "go" to a B series TC, but with much more favourable fuel consumption!

I think someone would have done so if I hadn't got there first to be honest dude- although rwd 1300s aren't cheap, it's a pretty easy project! I paid £800 for it, which seems pretty cheap when you consider that thedoctor101 sold it (complete, admittedly!) on eBay last year for £3100...

I cannot believe it had to be parted with its original mechanicals for a Morris Minor...!!! That is such a shame for a car so honest and original...

Hi phuq, yeah I'm mud's distant owner.Signed on after a long while with a new name. Really glad you've got the marina bug and are gonna get the old tub sorted properly. Must be a rare model now even for a marina Thread resurrection- I missed the reply above Will keep you posted as we progress, are you still down in Cornwall? Will be bringing her down there for a holiday when she's done (well, Plymouth, as that's our old haunt and we try and go every year), will have to meet up. In other news, the Dolomite is now back from the bodyshop with fresh paint, the engine and 'box are back in, and we've started on interior and windows... aaaand the owner has gone off and bought a house so it's all on hold. The car is at his parent's so we'll finish it there (but the new gaff has a garage, so all is well). He's now in the new place and he'd got nearly everything sorted for the car so it shouldn't be too much longer. I've also acquired an engine for the Marina saloon, which is about the right age for the car as a bonus. Once it's rebuilt then that should be back on the road- soonish hopefully, as I've sold the Volvo to help pay for the engine, ao functioning transport is limited to my legs...

Fleet update, because why not. Shortly after my last post Mud was woken up from her slumbers and dragged through another MOT, mostly as the Saloon wasn't going to be ready for the Marina club's annual shindig. Made it to Lancashire and back for that and has been in regular use since (looking and sounding increasingly rough). Starter has just packed up (again), this really should be the last resurrection until after restoration now. The Mk2 eventually gained an engine and is up and running, athough we'e had a few foibles as expected (and still have a few). Tiz MOT'd at least, and it has escaped from the garage a couple of times. It was supposed to be at the NEC this weekend just gone, and my young lady was good enough to treat me (or, more accurately, the car) to a spruce up by Rich of "Classic Details" ( www.classic-details.co.uk). He did a cracking job and it scrubbed up rather nicely for what is mostly 37 year old British Leyland paint. Unfortunately all the oil decided to fall out the bottom on Wednesday (sump gasket, I changed it Sunday 'cos it was weeping from the rear half moon, and it obviously didn't seal!) so we didn't make it. I'm not convinced that many people noticed, but in case you felt you were missing out...

Oh, and the Dolly made it back onto the road, and completed the Club Triumph RBRR (2000ish miles in 48ish hours) without any real problems. Doesn't look too shabby either... Before: After:
