Oh bloody hell, you've got me started now.
I hate the way these morons try to tune them by shoving bigger and louder exhausts on them. As if they weren't annoying enough already.
They also seem to deliberatel stay out late at night so they can drive past peoples houses and wake them up.
Barstards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't worry, in a couple of years they'll be old enough to buy a Saxo clone on finance with free insurance and glassfibre it up.... Can't wait We have a local moped gang where I live, the word menace has never fitted so well.

Also, why are they only able to come to a halt by locking up the back brake?
Is this something inherent to moped design? I suspect not.
Stopping in this way is only cool if (1) You are 12 and (2) If you are riding a Raleigh Burner.
(Ooops: That's bound to open a can of worms on the whole retro cycle issue - Burner / Grifter / Chopper? you decide)

A friend of mine was arrested for knocking over 3 mopeds in one go in his battered Astra van three months ago. The Police let him go, after a warning and a smile and them pesky kids never came back.
Moral of the story: If the little *uckers weave in and out of the road like they're easy riders, then they deserve everything they get.
Amusingly enough this method of pest control is not new. I was speaking to a guy at the Toyota show recently, who in his Rocker days used to knock Mods on their Vespa's into ditches with his Toyota CROWN estate....

I've never knocked one over, but you're right, if people are going to behave like muppets on mopeds, then they're going to get hurt. The same goes for cars really. I love giving the Imp a good hiding now and then, but I don't even think about doing it near a school, or on a busy motorway, I'll only kick it's teeth in on a good quiet road, preferably an empty backroad.

These kids get let on the road with just one days basic training, no road sense and the most dangerous form of transport there is. I did the basic training several years ago before progressing to proper bikes. It just makes sure you can stay upright. That's it.
I do think that all car drivers should have to do a bike test though. It'd make them much better drivers.

I didn't say there was anything wrong with mopeds, I said there is something wrong with the people (and they might well be a minority, I don't know) who drive like bloody lunatics. Mopeds, like modern BMW saloons, attract idiots who can't drive. Maybe because it doesn't take much at all to be allowed to drive a moped, idiots who want to drive like nutters think that if they get a moped they can get on the road quicker.

Oh, I had better not tell you lot then that I have a Honda Vision moped in the back garden that has been tuned from 1.8hp stock to over 5.5! (about £600 spent on the engine!)
Now I've ridden 200 mph superbikes and everything in between, but this thing is scary fast! Nothing nothing nothing - oh f*ck, there it goes... It has a powerband about as wide as a mosquito's bum.
I know if I put it on the road I will be one with a lamppost very quickly thereafter, so it's for sale. Needs a battery and a rear spindle for the MOT (oh and 300 miles to run the engine in) £250. Either that, or it would make an excellent go-ped/go-cart donor!

Oh yeah, to those people above who have boasted about deliberately knocking bike riders off. Have you ever considered that it should be you who shouldn't be on the road?? Attitudes like that are dangerous. I've been unprovokingly knocked off by not a very nice person who thought they knew better in a car. Yeah, kids on peds make me cringe too (Christ, I used to teach 'em), but live and let live gents. They'll hurt themselves soon enough anyway.

I probably sound like I'm switching camps, but I agree with you, what I just said was that not everyone on a moped is invariably a bad driver,"they may be a minority" were my words, but even though there are loads of bad drivers on mopeds, maybe fighting fire with fire isn't the best way to go, I also said that I don't suggest misusing a car on a public road. That stuff brings down our reputation, and gives reason for the Government to pass stupid laws against old motors. I'm all for people having opinions, but maybe we shouldn't be going out hurting each other in the name of safe driving, the mud people throw at classic owners sticks, an if it's true, it might do us all serious damage

Nobody has been knocking people off moped, just knocking knocking the parked mopeds over. Well that's the way I read it anyway. As for the Toyota dealer who boasted about knocking Mods off thier scooters, he must have been a Rocker, it was all out war with that lot. My dad was a Mod but he had the good sense to cruise round in a Mk2 Cortina GT.

Probably worth mentioning that on the M4 every morning there isn't a moped in sight but there are plenty of attrocious drivers, I think they are in the majority. In today's cut and thrust society - to save time, most reps remove the first M and S from the mirror signal manouvre rule.

Even hitting a stationary moped just gets people's backs up. I mean, if classic cars are seen doing that, pretty soon people are going to talk about 'those idiots in old cars bumping in to things' and stuff like that.

My only problem with them is the noise,.. why do they have to be so loud!!!! We live on a steep hill and we see them screwing the nuts off their bikes to get up the hill. Most amusing was the time one of them was screwing the nuts of his moped, crawling up the hill, and someone on a push bike over took him,... bwuhahaha,.. laugh? I thought I was going to cough up a lung.
Driving/riding like an idiot thing is the same as kids in their first cars, or even on their bicycles,.. it is a self solving problem.
Can you get a 4 stroke moped??? 2 Stroke does my head in,.. BRrruzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ so loud,...

I don't know, a two stroke lorry sounds/smells pretty nice. Commer and Foden both made two stroke diesel engines for their own lorries. Very clever design.
Then there's the Trabant. The engine in that is actually very reliable and dependable if you take care of it, and it's quieter than a Hillman Imp engine, which is four stroke (the Imp has more power and sounds nicer though!)
But yes a moped engine is a gutless little curse word and is dead loud.

First times I drove my first Imp around I was terrified I would destroy the thing if I overdone it. I wouldn't have raced anyone if you'd payed me to do it! ;D

I almost lost a friend due to a 'ped', he on his moped was hit buy a car whilst stopped a traffic lights the car only hit him at about 5mph but the force threw him several meters. I've never liked them and am always very cautious when following them. Especially when you get a group of young charvas crusing along.

I know what you mean, they're not terribly safe and I'd hate to have ending someone's life on my consience for ever, regardless of whether they were a cheeky little curse word or not.
