To be honest, it doesn't matter what wheels we suggest or what could be done to improve the looks of the Trans Am rims. Because of two reasons, which I'm sure you'll agree with me on....

1. Bruce has AMAZING vision, and ability to translate it into reality.
2. He's a man with a plan, and past projects show he makes art.

Those Furukawa X-1 wheels look plastic and like they belong on a toy car, not a real car. I've never really got the fuss about them as I don't think they're that nice a design. The Furukawa Mesh are nicer, but far too fiddly and again have that Matchbox/Corgi look about them because of the big black disc behind the 'spokes' of the design. However, get yourself one of those road legal fairground dodgems and apply them instead of the usual quad bike wheels and I reckon you'd be onto something.

Great thread! Makes you think about how different a design can look with different graphics applied to it & makes me want to experiment upon some of mine.

Best of luck with the search MM. Sorry things didn't work out with those wheels but must agree with the choice. Looking forward to what comes next.. but not in any hurry.

memoryfab apparently makes a wheel very close to that design new. they are doing custom PCD's as well. www.memoryfab.com/wheels/new/941

Memoryfab aren't a wheel manufacturer, they import (mainly used) wheels from Japan.

They've done a unique distribution deal with a wheel manufacturer, they don't make wheels themselves. M Technica is a wheel brand in its own right.

Realizing that I have no business even commenting on the level of intense thought going into this, I will anyways.

Two thoughts, possibly contradictory.

1. Wheels are jewelry. Typically you don't pick the jewelry until after you are dressed. Assuming no structural changes are needed might it not be worth waiting to see what the car tells you as it gets closer to completion?

2. In terms of the Firebird wheels, you stayed with the era of the car. I think this is critical. To choose something from a decade or two later will never quite look right as anyone who has ever seen a spoiler on an MG Midget can attest. This will narrow your choices. As I look at what you seem to be circling around, I keep thinking of Jags of the era.

Bruce, My 2p (apologies)

I think its actually the tire letting you down. That era of car needs some bulging sidewall action. Those wheels add to this. The flat edge lip transitioning into a flat walled tire is what i think lets it down. Only problem is the size of the wheel may prohibit a chunkier tire...

Just my thought, but it may contradict the overall look you want for the car anyway....
