Updetzzzzzzzzz. Carryiing on from the Gearbox saga! I sourced another a9 gearbox from Euan with the honda city, Thanks alot for that man. So i could replace the dead out 3rd gear. Lucky i cracked the tooth to be honest as some of the teeth were a little mauled and i never noticed that 1st time around. 3 Shafts ready to be split. The offending item! As you can see there is a small chip in it as i was a total dickhead and thought using a pry bar was a good idea, Live and learn. However a closer look at the 3rd gear id cracked showed me it already had a few chips in it already The shaft finally finished, Unfortunately i cannot afford all the supporting parts to put the box back together yet. I need a new nut for the countershaft, a release bearing, some honda bond and MTF. All of which will have to wait untill february Which is pretty gutting, as i am really looking forward to getting this thing on. I took the rocker cover off the spare head i have so i can give it a bit of a polish, brighten up the bay a little bit. I also got these RTA's from a friends rex of which he binned . I need to get some rear goodridge lines to match the fronts and some applicable handbrake cables, i am hoping this will stop it diving so much when braking. Enjoy people.

Nice to see a D-Series getting some love! When i see Other Civic Threads on Civiclife etc... It All seems to be the same Story, Drop in a B16 or B18. People seem to think D-Series' are useless but in reality there a very capable engine My Civic MB2 Daily runs a completely Factory Standard D14, Even thats no Slouch! Keep it up

I'm with you on that one. The amount id spend dropping a b series in i could make a d series go just as fast tbh. It does get boring on civic life, it all seems to be about the k series atm. I can understand why, but at 4-5k minimum for a swap ill save my money.
Next year i am hoping to do something slightly more major, either headwork, a 1600 bottom end or a cam. Which ever is easiest and cheapest at the time. I really need to sort a decent manifold and exhaust out first.

Once I decide what direction I'm going to actually go with my car, its possible I might attempt some kind of D14 Vtec machine, afterall it cant be all that difficult, at the minute there all just ideas in my head though, time will tell I guess. Loving the car though, got a hell of a lot of love for the EF's. Best shape civic in my opinion.

Naa it wouldn't be to hard at all, just source a d16y8 head, albeit would probably be cheaper to source a whole vtec engine. A d14 vtec would be rather quirky mind. Yeah i have had an ek and an eg and this is definitely my favourite, its also the lightest out of the 3 one of the main reasons why i bought it to be honest.

Small up date. Went and changed my radius rod bushes today as i had them left over from my polybush kit and had curse word all better to do. I am yet drive it so i am not sure if they will improve anything. None the less pictures: Albeit the rods only had three bolts each the amount of things i had to take off to get to them was crazy. Wasn't a bad job just a bit long winded. None the less its now another thing i do not need to worry about for a while. Enjoy gentelmen.

Sweet thread, great to see the work going into this civic. I can't take going on anymore hot hatch forums full of frivolous morons who pay £500 for a copper brake line through the car with a bias valve or £700 for a curse word custom made exhaust for a Clio 172 or something.

Cheers gents, I have tried to keep it simple with performance in mind seems it has paid off. I am looking forward to getting my gearbox in as mine is truely shagged. I have neglected it alot Firstly by filling it with the wrong Gbox oil, then failing to try and sort it. Also shorter ratios should make it more fun to drive. Along with one of these to ice the cake: I have wanted one ever since they got released and what better time to get one than fitting a new gearbox

Cheers ben Updates! Thanks Ethan(Walsh123) and Carthy for these two respectively. Clutch Release bearing, ready for the last part of my gear box build at the end of this month. ZC Speed inlet adapter, for those of you that are not familiar with it. It will allow me to run a SOHC manifold on a DOHC D-series engine, in this case it will be a d16a9(1.6, Twin cam, Non-Vtec), Albeit this swap wont be for a few months yet. Its a bit of experiment as its only been done a couple of times from what i have seen/found. I am throughly looking forward to it though. Anyways less talking Boom! When i eventually buy an a9, i will mock it up with a spare manifold and see if any modification needs to be made. As they were originally produced to run SOHC Jackson Racing Super Chargers on DOHC D-series. As of pay day i will hopefully have the bits to finish my Gbox build, a Tegiwa Race spec shifter(I have wanted one of these for well over year) and a wooden gear knob to match the Momo wheels . Enjoy!

very nice work, and a great thread, makes me want my EF's again
what fuel system are you going to run on the A9? the twin carbs off the D14? or some webers?
The wheel choice is perfect for this shape of car, really like what you have done bud!

Thanks alot dude I will run the twin carbs from the d14. I may upgrade the carbs if the spec of the engine ever reaches a point where the carbs cannot flow enough air and or fuel. I have become quite familiar with the keihins now, so messing with jets and stuff will be quite enjoyable. I have just found the pump and regulator set up i want. Cool.as curse word is one way to describe the regulator. Cannot wait.

Update... Nothing major, sourced a VT rear lip from a friend of mine (Cheers Sam O), I had to lose my rear mud guards to fit it though Not gunna lie i cable tied it on, but you would never know as it fits so well. And a curse word picture of it fitted I think it sets off the rear end brilliantly, however it does accentuate the fact that i do not have an exhuast I think i will try and get a full cat back before i attempt the engine swap. Also unfortunately the gearbox may have to be put on hold becuase of(DanT is going to love this)... Potentially my new daily hack...this is not 100% but i will find out at some point this week. If i can get it fo' cheaps the gearbox build will remain, if not it may have to get put on hold untill next month. Although i want to try and avoid this as much as possible as it has been to long! Enjoy.

a great read this. i noticed you bought a d15, then spoke about a cam swap? i'm guessing you just used the 1.5 cam in the d14 head?
also on the point of a new exhaust, remember you don't need a cat on an EF as they were first produced before the mot test required one. i had a 1.5x crx so will be following this thread with interest.

Thanks dude. Yes your are correct used the d15 cam in the d14 head.
I am aware of this. Which reminds me when buying an exhaust i may need to buy a decat as Fuel injected cars did come with cats.
Also just to note, the gearbox build will finish this month as i have ordered all the parts. Also i may be getting the Ovlov above if the seeller accepts my offer, which will be a waiting game.

Updates... Albeit minor ones, Last weekend i got some small allen head bolts for the trumpets as follows; Before After An extremely minute difference, but one i have been meaning to change for a while now. Cheeky bay shot as is Chillin with a good friend of mine, while he does a little work to his rex. Also this happened Basically went to assemble it and after about 3-4 hours gave up. As it would not select 5th or reverse . I have assembled something wrong so need to strip it down and start again. However i will not give up, i need a new counter shaft nut and allegedly i may need a new interlock guide if it is damaged. So this will get put on the back burner for a while. Also Tegiwa race spec shifter is on its way as is a 16v back box as my piece of pipe is blowing  Tis all for now children.

As mentioned I recieved my tegiwa shifter. After driving with it for a few days i love it! It started out to be a bit stiff with vertical movements but has loosened up a bit now. I am now using a OEM gear knob as i didn't like the one pictured above to much. For the next few weeks/months updates are going to slow down as i am picking up my new daily in 2 weeks(The volvo i posted up before) and i have alot of things to pay for . Also need to save for new sills and welding etc etc. Cheers.

Yes those polished/chromed gear knobs can get very cold in winter! I was shocked how much better the satin/cast alloy finish of the "Type R" style knob I put on my CR-X was in that regard.. but still cold. I guess you'll just have to get wood to match the wheel now. I was surprised the shifter is two piece like that, but I am tempted by the idea of a longer shifter like that, especially if I make up a large modern style centre console flowing into my Integras' dash. But it seems it needs a clutch now... & I should do the CR-X g/box too.

I have had thoughts of a wooden knob to match, i am still casually looking about. Its a replica of the FLP shifter dude, made by a UK company. As you can see i am yet to get mine in, but they have been recommended by the masses so must be good .
