Been to have a look at the crusader today to see what damage has occurred following the crash the other week. Managed to get the bonnet open by going in through the grille. Got the remains of the head lamp out to let me see what was what. Going to need some work on the inner wing. Like head lamp bowl, some straightening of the inner wing as the washer bottle in quite horizontal. New wing rail ( bent and rusted by bonnet hinge) the chassis rail shows no sign of being twisted, and there are no tell tales round the crossmember mounting points. Going buy the video I took of the last one I fixed years ago, this one is not as bad as that one, my old mk5 had hit a truck, and I got that one back on the road. It also needs front valence, upper front section, slam panel, wing, bonnet, bonnet cable. Have taken some pics and will post when I have transferred them from my phone.

Well, attacked the front of the car today, Removed damaged valance, upper centre section and front wing, after carefull investigation of the chassis and lots of measuring and comparing to the big ford manual I have, found the chassis is not bent! So the beating commenced! Managed to bring the bent inner wing round to where it should be and forward to where it should be. Straightening out nicely and now gives me access to cut the damage out. New slam panel and rad supports turned up today aswell, next stage is to drill out old spot weld and remove the slam panel. Hunt down passenger side wing rail, and weld to the front. This should give me nice datum to finish off the inner wing and sort out the wing rail. Have taken some pictures which I shall up load later on when I get home. I was wondering of anyone with a mk5 could do some measurements for me, I would like to know the distance between the Wing rails up by the bonnet hinges and from the wing rails up front by the slam panel. Just so I can be sure that the distance had not changed. Frankie

Attacked the Cortina again on saturday, Got the slam panel removed and picked up a new bonnet and front wing. Dummy fitted the new panels to check. Got some plates to make and weld in where some grot was, fit a new wing rail, do some work round passenger bonnet hinge due to grot, collect front valance on payday, the find front centre section (bit under the lights) and weld it all together. Have some piccies Frankie

Great to see this coming along mate.Did you get the measurements you needed? No Dan, not yet. just using judgement at the moment, and the marks where the old panels used to sit.

Little update and a few piccies, Picked up a wingrail yesterday and a new front valance from a nice banger racer chap in the new forest. Dummied every thing up, measured 4 or 5 times before welding the wing on. Front valance just clamped on to double check Still waiting on replies regarding the Upper front panel then hopefully crack on with the rest of it. Excuse the dodgey phone pics!! Frankie

Nice to see the old girl coming together again so nicely and really chuffed no one was hurt, good thing cortinas are built solid. Personally owned an 3.0l triple carb XR6 interceptor same colour and year as the stander gang owned. I sat and cried on the roadside when i parked it and a run away 18 wheeler doing +/- 120 km/h used it as a launching pad before ploughing through 3 stores. when i arrived on scene the car measured a breathtaking 16 inches high. Couldnt ever look at an interceptor again without a tear in the eye. So smile it could have been worse.

I do have some pics lying around somewhere on the old photo paper if I could just figure out why my scanner wont work, without using a hammer. The last one met an untimely death as well for the same reason.

Few more piccies, Decided to have a go and give the upper front panel a good sort out! Nothing to loose so I went for it! still needs some work as you can see under the head lamp and it does still have a twist in it. But it does loose the twist when pushed up to the headlight backing plates. going to give it another go on Friday when its my day off and hopefully finish off the welding. Then it the checks for the MOT as it runs out begining of March, then the paint prep type thingy!! Still looking for a front bumper that is not hundreds of miles up country (thats proving to be a curse word) Then I can play with engine stuff!! like cams and fitting the twin DHLA's etc!! Frankie
