Because I have always wanted a Volvo since I was little. I remember very distinctly my older sister's silver 244 and how safe I felt sitting deep in those blue velour seats. It just felt like the thing wouldn't ever break. That one was sold on, and when I turned 18 I bought a SAAB, totalled it, and then bought a 1991 black 240 sedan for myself. I loved that car, but it was far too slow to keep up with the suspension I put on it. I bought a 1994 940 Turbo to replace it, and it got hit by a municipal truck.
Around the same time, I met the previous owner of my 780. He offered a trade for my dented 940, and I jumped at the chance. Now I like the fact that it looks sharp, people don't really know what it is, and it still feels like a Volvo every time I get in. It was either this or a BMW 635, and I couldn't be happier with my choice.
TL;dr: I like Volvos, I like weird cars, this is a weird Volvo, therefore I love it.
