iv wanted one for many years (more than I care to admit) and after a a quick last minute bid placement I'm now the owner of item no www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200705308084?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649so what do people know about these apart from the fact they are awesome. I know from the retro cars feature they are leaf spring at the front and coils at the back so easy lowering and I know wheels are a unique pcd 4x160? so either banded or adaptors have some pics from flickr as a way of thanks i will also need advice on getting it registered it has no paperwork with it

Hi, I have one of these little cars and they are a lot of fun to drive. LDM is a good place to get spare parts for them. If you put LDM in to the search engine you will find it ok. It's a German company but they do understand English. If you have any questions just ask I will try my best to answer them for you, but my car is in Hungary and I am in the UK so I can't just pop out side to have a look for you if you need to compair something. Good luck with the Trabi.

Front suspension is Transverse leaf and rear suspension semi trailing arm. They are awesome and I really want one. At the moment I have to satisfy myself with this 1:24 scale model I made.

I know that some of the later ones of these had the 1.0 polo lump so I presume you could chuck a VW 1.3 in there with minimal fuss or possibly a G40 lump if you're feeling fruity? Best of luck with it dude, post a link to your build thread when you start one

But you Can get a kit to bolt a wartburg 1000cc two stroke lump in ;D

This has to be the only non-Trabant specific forum on the net where people congratulate and are actually envious of someone buying a 'spares or repairs' Trabant! ;D I am also congratulatory and a bit envious. I look forward to seeing/hearing/smelling it buzzing about. I do on occasion spot you on my daily commute.

It might be handy to know that a piece of 15mm copper water pipe is exactly the right size if your gear linkage breaks, and they seem to like to run on suzuki gt500 spark plugs

Thanks for the words Of encouragement. My original thoughts was to turn it into a rally/race with some form of polo lump but after reading more about them and some words of encouragement from my dad I'm gonna keep it semi original lowered slightly, cleaned up a lot and will be painted in an original green interesting to know about spark plugs should be easier to find than trabant specific ones. Thanks for the offer of parts will be in touch as and when I finally see it and see what I need. Build thread will be up as soon as its on my drive which is soon I hope.

Great purchase, bargain price too I know nothing of them of any real value but whenever I see the under bonnet expansion chamber it brings a warm glow to my heart. Air cooled Tatra V8 apparently *Edit V8 drift Trab

thought id bump this thread seeing as its arrived little bit ripe in places but nothing a welder cant fix few parts missing but nothing major link to build thread and photos to follow shortly plans are
respray in ivory white/ beige slightly lowered (even the hungarian delivery driver told me to lower it) wider wheels in silver- i will put the trabi centers in some 5.5j steelies
so similar to the retro cars trabi but not as low and with little camber
