I find the best thing for upholstery is Stardrops diluted and rubbed in using an old woolly jumper or similar, works well on door panels too.

Baby wet-wipes. Seriously.
I have to have a pack in every car for cleaning oily hands, in fact cleaning pretty much everything.

When you get some baby wipes, i recommend the tesco ones with resealable plastic lids, otherwise they dry out

Wilko's own brand car upholstery cleaner (99p iirc) is brilliant. I had an old Corsa B I rebuilt last year and the interior was rank. It came up spotless and smelt lovely.

The best stuff I've ever used is 1001 upholstery & carpet cleaner. There's two sorts, one for machines (foamy) and one for manual use. I used the manual cleaner in a spray bottle, spray onto the seat/carpet, scrub with soft brush and then wet vacuum it off. If there's no wet vac, dry with old towel and make sure the weather is warm too. Comes up like new

steam cleaner is what the "detailing" boys use, less chance of a reaction between the cleaning agent and the fabric. s'posed to be better for the environment, s'posed to be easier, less clean up, deeper cleaning action, all that.
I've used the 1001 stuff for years always been happy with the results.

We bought 25 litres of upholstory cleaner from a guy with a stand at the car auctions one night years ago its marvellous - you dilute it 50:1! so still got loads left, unfortunately the label has long since disapeared so have no idea what its called....
Don't know about a steam cleaner but I've seen cheap 'trade' interior valets done with a pressure washer, traffic film remover and a VAX to suck it all back out with, they come out really well - just take a while to dry out afterwards.

Autosmart Brisk is the best I have used, G101 is great for plastics or stubborn stains

It will come in handy even if you never use it
