OK So two rally drivers campaigned Monzas in the 90's Gavin Cox and Martin Stockdale Guess what neither of em used this car Gavin Cox is certain of his cars history being not Ex Austin McHale Martin Stockdale - terrific fella spoke to him tonight - but he knows this can't be his car as it died on the 1991 RAC and he stripped it for the useable parts to fit to his Carlton that he used the following year Strange thing is he believed (or was told when he bought it) the engine he used in his Monza and also later in the Carlton was ex Austin Mchale Now that would explain why a car would dissappear of the scene for a long period of time after all it can't compete with out an engine - some investigation along that avenue underway Shout if you are bored with this thread but I'm a Monza nut so sometimes don't appreciate that others my not share my blinkered viewpoint

Well as far as it's history in Ireland goes I'm all searched out - I spoken or had email conversations with almost everyone who was involved in the car (the exception being those people who would require the services of a medium as they are no longer with us)
I'm pretty much hoping for a breakthro on the history of the car from when it came back to the UK but all the potential leads are pretty much dead ends and it just looks like it vanished for best part of 10 years!!
I'm pretty sure I will get a break but I reckon it will be by accident/good fortune rather than any other reason
I'll update if I have any news

Awsome thread!! - BC - would be good to see your banner picture replaced in a couple of years of years time of a Monza in works colours flying over the Mallory kerbing Car/shell looks to have survived the fire quite well considering

I dug out an old Irish Rally Legends book 'Mad for Tar' with a big pic of the Austin McHale car and the sister car of yer man, i forget his name, its a few pages back.

Anyway now safe and sound in Norfolk It worked out really well as it's now in a secure compound outside the place that is going to shot blast and paint the shell (most of it) so that I can start with a nice clean base to build upon Top reversing by Tigran meant that unloading was easy and very little shunting was required to park it up out of the way

Bottom line is it's the first time I've seen the car in the flesh and OK it looks rough as a badgers Ar5e but all the Monza rust traps seem to be very solid.......
A shot blaster however will find weak spots rather quickly so it may turn into a bit of a weldathon!!!

I think the only suspect parts maybe around the nose and that rear wheel arch. I reckon the rest is as solid, (if not more so!), as it left the factory. So you happy so far? BTW, need to 'touch base' with you to 'cross the t's and dot the i's' and to arrange for delivery of the exchange parts. BTW, do you have the tarpaulin?

Great thread, loving the history... And lack of it, which means theres more to come. I didn't quite get how Tigran managed to get himself to Scotland with a Land Rover, I thought he was in Russia? And they say I get about...
