Well as the person that originally scanned and posted it, let me say welcome and how honoured I am to get a response to the article, Mr Stringer. Out of all of the vans that you built in that period, KVX has long been a favourite van of mine, along with Alan Arnold's CBS Supervan (the now-faded poster I once had on my bedroom wall of KVX attests to that!). It seemed so far ahead of it's time and still looks good now, so much so I have a dream of building a replica one day. It begs the question though: does she survive in any way, shape or form? -Amazo

Hey mr Stringer!! Memories of New Zealand!! I met you at the Pukekohe Hot Rod Club Rooms in the 1970's when I went a long as guest of Ian Ellis . I was a member of the Papakura rod club back then. I remember the huge storm you caused in Auckland with your transit and the "keep on truckin" paint theme. Was that the same van and are you the guy that was doing a lot of clay for GM in the 80's and 90's???

Many years ago I changed my driving style to cope with rising fuel prices; I have now reached the stage where I am contemplating keeping my eyes shut in order to lower wind resistance.

I am that same man ( Boy, Youth, Yobbo ) It wasn't a Transit it was a Bedford CF with a 350cu Chevy V8.
Once I get used to this Internet thing I will post some pictures.
Ian was a great friend and asset to my buisness, with help and introductions when I first arrived in NZ, how is he ?

To answer your questions does it exist today, I have no idea of where it went after I sold it to Frank Hedley of Removatop in Newcastle, that was back in 1981, Took the cash, flew to the USA, bought a new Black Dodge Ram Van, took it to a friends Van Conversion Company in CA , did the interior, Paint, Wheels etc, believe it or not called Star Vans, a company that I ended up owning along with another in Texas about 10 years later. Drove across the USA to Baltimore and shipped it to England, had it completed with 2 Yamaha Cruiser style bikes and one of the first Jet Sky's in England and featured in Custom Car in under 6 weeks including shipping. Those where the days, many do not believe it when I tell them that " In Transit " took 17 days from Idea to finish, that was the start of things to come.
Many have asked how many Vans we built ( Star Vans, Star Custom Vehicles, and other companies over the years ) In England and Europe by the early 80's around 120 units. After moving to the USA in 1985 in the hight of the Custom Van (Conversion Vans as there were called once the dealers got hold of them )1990 through 1997 we did on good months 200 units a month ! Gulp !
It got boring, business partners, 250 employees, Then came Aircraft, Mega 45ft RV's Motor Cycles, Boats, 2007 RETIRE ! NOT.
Thanks Custom Car, Hot Car magazine, Belvue Rod and Custom shows, NSVA, NSRA, all the clubs and members that worked so hard back then and now. How good is an interest that with work and dedicated employees can make you get up every day, work 12 to 18 hrs a day 6 and 7 days a week ( not one day off sick for 45 plus years ) and love every day.
Then find out that all those falling down things, headaches, funny shakes you put down to Beer and Old Age is actually Parkinson's . Oh well if thats all I get for having a blast for over half a century I am not going to complain, I now have my disabled sticker, so I can park anywhere, an electric (Tricked Up, custom billet wheels, carbon fiber body ) scooter that I can take on the airplanes, live on a Big Lake, with a Golf Course ( no I don't do Golf, my wife Carole of 45 years does , tricked out Golf Cart, Mags, Paint, pin striped, what would you expect ) in Deep East Texas, 25 days of rain a year Gas is $3.00 a gallon Life is Good. yes I do answer emails. still have the motto " The answer is Yes ! whats the question "

This thread restores my faith in the internet. Welcome to RR Steve, I'm glad you're doing well.
And by the way the question was "Will you build me a van and ship it over on the house?"
and probably also
"Will you sign Amazo's hat?"

This was always my favourite: My memory may be playing tricks on me, but I'm pretty sure Ford borrowed 'Raspberry Sheikh' along with a host of ther top UK Customs for the 1980 Motor Show at the NEC because their factories were on strike and they couldn't get any cars for their stand. Imagine. Instead of gleaming Cortinas, Fiestas and Capris the whole sprawling stand was filled with top-notch murals, glittering chrome and Metalflake and dozens of slot-mags. I was 16, and in heaven! Glad to know you're doing OK Steve, despite the obvious blows that Parkinson's brings. May you live long in the land where 'the nights are warm, and the roads are straight'. Very best wishes. Brian
