then they started getting cheeky and walking off with tools! They will literally try to eat anything! You not tempted to move the battery into the boot ? I did consider it, but the boot is pretty wet (thats the next job). Good work Robin, It's getting there. Psssst - Wanna buy an XR2i CVH and management? Everything you need to make that 90bhp into 130 Thanks Ian, I'd love to run an XR2i CVH but the FWD engine is quite different making it harder to mount. The head is completely different hose arrangement, on the RWD engine the top rad hose is part of the inlet manifold. looking good!!! I need to learn to weld, always find it daunting!!! did the seagull get collected?! Honestly I find it really daunting too, it's best to just attack it with a grinder and once you've got that far you've got to finish it! Yes the seagull was collected, my cats sat around the box he was in sniffing it. They were more than a little excited. Nice work on the welding Dude, really glad to see you getting stuck into the car and making it nice & solid. No more wet feet FTW! Hopefully making it nice a solid, one area that does worry me is the roof. It's got a vinyl cover that has got some blistering under it Hope it's not too bad once I pluck up the courage to peel it off! Finally the nissan battery tray fit and wiring loom all plugged back in.... .....engine starts fine win! So I thought I'd go for a quick bimble to get some petrol, so I get it in put my foot on the brake pedal which goes straight to the floor check the reservoir.... .....empty after a quick look under the car there appear to be a puddle under the near side rear wheel. So at least it's only a wheel cylinder, so todays lunchtime was spent removing the offending cylinder, thankfully all the brake unions and fittings came undone nicely and the bleed nipple on the off side was not seized so bleeding the brakes should be no hassle..... ....a new(well probably recon) cylinder from work was Ā£5.68 ;D so this evenings job is to fit it. If the rain holds off, seriously WTF has happened to the summer?!!!!?!?!??!?!?

Get those brake shoes in a saucepan of boiling water STAT!
The water draws the fluid out of the friction material. Once they've cooled down, rinse them again, rough up the surface with some sandpaper, and refit them. Don't use the brakes too hard until the water's evaporated off though...

Thanks James for that top tip, anyway I cleaned everything up fitted the new cylinder and bled the brake which all went really well. So thankfully the car was in full working order for the trip to A52 I took the carb service kit I had bought with me, as James had kindly offer his expertise in helping service the pretty leaky and knackered carb. Unfortunately the service kit wasn't great, it contained most of the bits we needed but was missing two of the most important o-rings! Due to James being a complete hero, he made a few phone calls and sourced me the correct o-ring off a guy in Bristol who had a service kit for an Imp carb. I owe him big time! Some rubbish photos of the carb in bits..... Another reason why the car wasn't running quite right, was the air filter, which looked more like an oil filter lol...... Luckily Bruce had an old pancake filter off a weber carb, which Rich bastardised to fit the stromberg. He also gave the backplate a very 90's style paint job in the K&N colours. Thanks guys I really appreciate your help and skills. Then I took it for a little run to get it hot, popped back and James set it up. So did it make a difference? OMFG it's transformed the car, the power is progressive and smooth, it's improved the car a hundred fold! Again and huge thanks to James, Rich and Bruce.

Hey so that was where you were going on Friday night. Saw you on m5 just past the morrisons depot. Renault Clio Sport 172 in red. You looked over as we past and that me in the passenger set looking at you. Was the reason you were running slower was because of the carb?

He was probably going slower because you were in a Renault Clio Sport 172 in red and he was in a 1256 Chevette in many shades of baby blue ;D To track his movements incase he's wanted for any crimes, Robin would have been chatting to me over a tyre for Mystery Machine at Junction 24 but 5 minutes before

Yeah I remember you passing me but as Ben said the Chevette with its 4 speed box and sub 50 bhp it's not hugely comfortable at modern motorway speeds. Hopefully the CVH and type-9 box should make it much more usable. 60 mph is about as fast as you'd want to go, I've had it to 80 but it gets hot and doesn't feel good lol! Great fun though ;D

looking good mate. Good for you with the welding. I had/have the same thing, welding anxiety! But as you say, once there's a massive hole, you've gotta do something! Glad its running better too.Remember driving my Cortina back after a 'proper' bloke had set it up, and the difference is HUGE!Big smiles all round. ;D ;D

That has the potential to be farkin awesome! What's the colour scheme for it? I think I'm a bit brainwashed by Sporthatches recently, but I can see a black and red theme working great with the stripe and extra details. Glad to hear you got the Strommy working well, mine was great for nigh on 2 years but grew problems that wouldn't go away and I found rebuild kits to be curse word quality (one of the diaphragms I got was made of such thick rubber the piston wouldn't sit on the bottom of the carb.) In the end I ditched the Strom and adapted an HS4 to fit, but the engine won't be going on the road to test it. Might have to get a Chevette just to see

What's the colour scheme for it? I want to keep it simple, white body and arches with the stripes in a bold bright colour (pink, red or green maybe). Think that wpuld look ace minus those arches as I think your arches look perfect the way they are! go qwith that stripe though...proper 90's..proper Street Machine Trust me the Volvo arches look good in photos, but they were added purely to allow Butterz to fit the compomotive wheels because the original arches had so much filler in them they fell to pieces when they tried to roll them. I'll put some close up photos to show what I mean. So the bolt on arches are a way for me to strip it back to the original metal repair the panels behind then cover it. Plus the plan is to get the Wellers widened 8's on the front and 8/9's on the rear, to make the arches functional. I've wanted to do a Bosozoku style car for a while, super wide wheels, duck tail spoiler and splitter, over sized arches, frenched rear lights, faux race car colour scheme. Nothing too stupid or crazy, just enough styling cues to look the part and make me happy.

Although there are obvious theme that seem to run through all Boso andĀ Garuchan style cars, there does seem to be a lot of variation on modifications. As much as I'd love to go completely OTT British roads seem to prohibit excessively large and low front splitters, however stuff that I do want to do...... Semi frenched/recessed rear lights, round combination clusters are my favourite, like this.... ... the rear lights on the Chevette look like trailer lights anyway! I plan to use "cheeseburger" lights. Which seem to be cheap and easily available, quite like these..... ...or... The paint job on this Skyline really inspired me, although I've seen similar schemes used before, it is fairly tame but should be easy to achieve. The splitter is also of a style I want to recreate.... Please feel free to add abuse, advice and opinion ;D

Do it!
Don't forget the twin tailpipe and contrasting colour cage with parallel bars seen through the rear window.
