The neighbour of where I live has a 2.9 Granada sitting on his front drive slowly rotting away, apparently the engine is a peach and the g/box was overhauled 400miles before it was layd up.
The question that I am pondering now is do I go ahead with the phenomenally expensive pinto build, and eventually a turbo for it, or do i just forget about it, buy the whole car for peanuts nick all the bits i need, break the rest, sell the loaaad of (brand new) stuff I have for the pinto and just go with the 2.9.
Decisions decisions.
P.S. I am positive it is a 12v, so what, 150bhp tops?

p.p.s. it's destined for the banger track, not sure how that's relevant but thought i'd chuck in that piece of info.

The project car is destined for the banger track or the granny?
The 2.9 is a heavy lump but does have electonic fuel injection so with some after market jiggery pokery can be set up properly to get the most out of it but it might cost a fair bit. I don't how good they can actualy be made to be anyway. It might be a similar story to the older 2.8i where the only way to improve it is with forced induction.
However, if the project car is a banger racer do you really want to risk breaking those expensive pinto parts in the hostile environment of the circuit?

You could make a fortune hiring out your capri to stop cargo ships floating out to sea if you fit the 2-9.
[just kiddin']
I think a properly done Pinto would be more fun, unless your a lazy-ass torque monster!

the v6 is quite heavy really. turbo the pinto easy way would be to use cossie pistons and rods or mod the std injection ones (the ones u got and very strong!) a monteago turbo carb and mod the downpipe for a t3 or simular for a blow though..... easy and do-able cheep! if u wanna go with the v6 then consider ford small block v8 nearing the sam,e wieght!! or a rover for the simular wieght to the pinto........ but as u say there really is no substitute for cubes.....! si

Looks like a hot pinto is winning then.
p.s. the granny potentially giving up the V6 is for the 'track', not the capri.
The capri is far too wibblepoo for that.

The 12v V6 is a fecking dog. *n actually the 12valve 2.9 has alot of potential, i've built and ran plenty of them they are an incredibly strong and relible engine only ever broke one and even that one still ran fine so i'm not quite sure where your getting your info on it being a dog but its totaly unfounded it has much better intake porting than an essex v6 and much better exhaust porting than the 2.8i so it combines the best of both of the old school v6's infact the only things that let it down is the poorly designed injection setup which starves the engine of power 160bhp as stock and the fact that it is a heavy enging still much lighter than the old essex v6 . the euro v6 championship cars used to run a normaly asperated version on carbs producing 270+bhp with very little mods done to the engine good set of manifolds and better fueling is pretty much all they need I would go with a 12 valve 2.9 over the 24valve . alot of people go for the 24valve cosworth version which is a very good engine but that engine was built around a slug of an auto gearbox and it has cams to suit that only realy produce the figures at around 3k below that its actually less reponsive than a 12valve version tigran what car is the v6 or pinto for? reason I ask is if its for a light car then I wouldn't use the v6 purely due to weight the pinto is no lightweight but it is far lighter than a cologne v6 plus the pinto is not really well suited to a heavy car ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

Why not do both? If the V6 is a runner and ready to drop in, why not install it and run it like that whilst building the Pinto? That's what I'd do anyway! ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

Would the V6's have the same bellhousing pattern as a pinto?

I spent the best part of a year tw@tting around rebuilding a V8 to transplant into my car... it's still not done. I reckon if I'd have had a running one it'd have been done by now ;D

Would the V6's have the same bellhousing pattern as a pinto? no but both can run a type 9 5speed box pinto type9 has shorter input shaft though but the boxes are both the same other than that so mounting points betwwen would stay the same. i would however steer clear of the v6 4speed auto even if it has only done 400miles they are still a horrid box

*quietly sticks that auto idea on the shelf*
The capper is a 3speed auto at the mo, so a 4speed for the time being would be luxury.

stay with the 3 speed you can change the bell housing on the c3 no probs may need a 2.8 flexplate but you may be lucky i've never gone auto with any v6 swaps so I couldn't say auto prop can be used for a manual swap ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) . the 4 speed auto is longer so you would need to make up mounts and propshaft
