Your Polo really is a lovely thing - the condition of it is superb. My mum had a '78 Polo 'N' in Mars red with a black and white checked upholstery. Not as posh as your 'L' - no headrests or chrome! I remember it fondly.
It is striking what a clean and elegant design the early Polo is when it is stock. Please don't lower it and go mad with the mods. It is too pretty for that - and so much more distinctive because of it. Still, it is your car...

Have seen you trundling along the B4008 a couple of times- a proper double take moment the first time!
Lovely looking little thing, and I have to echo the comments about doing anything too drastic with it. It stands out far more as it stands, that if it became another yet lowered VW on ats classics...

Yep that's my usual college route, if I do change the wheels it would have to be some rather cool 70s wheels around 6j and no major lowering just the front down a little

Spotted the car at the little (and damp) show in Cambridge the other week and had a proper look at it- it really does look every bit as good as it does in the pictures!

I'm really impressed how clean and tidy this cracking car looks. It's clear opinion is divided about modifying cars on here, but for me keeping it original makes it stand out in its own right. Ultimately the final decision is yours, as it is your car after all

Thanks PHUQ, the show was a wash out and the car hadnt been washed. I feel like this threads turning into a discussion about wether or not it should be "modded" and thats not what i want but guys don't worry nothing is happening to her its just been a thought, it may become like a golf ive seen at a few shows its absoluetly mint completely concourse but it reminded me of something then i realised it was the same golf i saw at E38 completely slammed on bbs at one show and completely standard at another you wouldnt even know it, i know it sounds like a Faf. heres some of the stuff ive been sorting out thanks

I was there the whole weekend with a couple of the lorries, but we did go home in the evening, glad I wasn't under canvas at that one!
Washed or not, it looked dead smart.

havent updated this for a long time but in the new year i put the mk1 on coilovers and got some tyres for my new wheels and i havent even had to do any modifications to the body Untitled by lukeherbert1, on Flickr and a new sticker Untitled by lukeherbert1, on Flickr Untitled by lukeherbert1, on Flickr Untitled by lukeherbert1, on Flickr and my stock pile of panels for when the mk1 under goes some work in the future and the daily has changed quite a bit but will hopefully be semi restoring it towards the end of the year back to tornado red Untitled by lukeherbert1, on Flickr sorry about the size of the pictures and I'm not sure why they started to do somersaults

Nice to see an update on this one after so long, the new wheels suit the Mk1 nicely and since you've gone for coilovers, returning to standard shouldn't be too difficult if you feel the need in the future. Seems sensible.
New Polo looks like a decent thing too, I'm guessing a jetwash will get most of that non-original paint off looking at the state of it on the driver's door.
