You are looking at a very rare opportunity to buy on of the last 2 door 131s alive!
This is the much sought after 2 door Racing. This was badged as a Sport in the UK, but a Racing in Europe.
It has the correct black velour interior, Abarth gear linkage, 2 litre twin cam, twin headlights etc.
I bought this car in Switzerland and I have driven it 2000kms, so know that it is good mechanically.
The engine is possibly one of the sweetest I have ever driven. It
starts well, pulls well, doesn't smoke or rattle and has the lovely
Twin Cam rasp to it. The speedo now reads nearly 71000kms and I believe this is genuine although have little history.
The gearbox is equally good, great changes from the Abarth quickshift linkage.
There is a very slight vibration sometimes when you pull away, I
imagine it is the rubber doughnut ring on the front of the prop.
When the car is running, it is actually great on fuel and a
comfortable ride. I did over 400kms without stopping up through
France, cruising at around 120kph and it was faultless.
The 2 tyres on the back are great and the two front ones could do with
changing soon. The spare wheel still has the correct P6 Pirelli
supplied when new.
The interior is in great shape. The seats and trims are all good. The gearknob needs changing and the headlining is sagging a bit. The seats and carpets are all good.
The car has an MOT until Aug 9th 2013 and passed without issue. The MOT tester said he couldn't see any evidence of any previous welding on the underside. I can see one plate that has been done on the o/s/f inner wing, that is it!!
The paint is horrible, but it looks like they literally painted over
the factory paint. It seems very little filler was used, it was just
very crude paintwork. I think if you saw it, you would agree that
underneath is a lovely genuine solid car, and amazing for an unrestored 131.
I will be registering it on UK plates, or I would be happy to sell it on Swiss plates. These
are legal until the end of August, but the plates will have to be sent
back after.
I had a bodyshop look at it today and the quote was £1000 to restore
the body to Silver, so that gives you an idea how good it is!
I would be open to any sensible offers and can send detailed descriptions and photos if you like.
There as a Sport with the engine out and what looked to me like terminal rust around the A post that sold for £5k on ebay a couple of weeks ago, so I feel my price is very realistic.
I might consider a part exchange for something retro, classic or even modern.
I am in SE Cornwall near Plymouth
