We had a great day, as usual.... wandering around, chatting to friends, looking at the usual vast array of oddities that are the trademark of R-R and the Gathering.... Occasional people running up and hugging you Aaah yes... the occasional ambush huggage... I'd almost forgotten! ;D

I would like to comment on Shully & Keefys comments about the campsite. Fistly when we arrived, we were told on the gate what was the "quiet side" and what was the "loud side". So I think the organisers have something to learn here as here clearly DID NOT state "family side"!!! I had just come back off my hols and was pretty tired so decided that the "quite side" was for me, but as the w/end went on we were gradually surrounded by families! Now this wasnt a problem, but I did feel that we were more subdued than normal out of respect them. BUT had we of known, we would have camped nearer the middle so we could have let our hair down more. So clearer instructions on the gate wouldnt go amiss for next year! I have been visiting car shows for 25 years now and the camping is always rowdy with colourful language no matter where you go, and TBH the RR campsite is very tame compared to other shows I frequent. I have children myself and have my owns views on whether they should attend car shows or not and to that I choose to leave mine at home so I can enjoy myself without the worry of noise or profanities. I totally respect those who prefer to, or have to bring their kids, but you cannot expect a field full of mainly drunken men (and women) to comply when children are around, its not going to happen at a car show EVER I guess my point is that I think Shully & co suffered due to poor instructions on the gate, so the organisers need to take the blame as much as "mr white glass's" and if RR want to make it a family show then camping should be made available to them on Prescotts grounds if they prefer, as it wont matter if you cordon of an area in the field as you will still hear the music, profanities and engine revving! I am hoping my comment didn't come across in a way that I was saying no noise at all etc etc. I loved hearing people around us enjoying themselves, music and the drunken laughs. So please anyone who had read it I was certainly not implying everyone had to be silent. What a boring weekend that would be for everyone, and its a campsite for a fantastic gathering! ;D I think your right it would be good for it to be made specific as 'family/quiet' area because we were conscious that not everyone would want to hear my 2 year old running about screaming like a banshee at silly o clock in the morning as he does most morning in my garden bouncing on the trampoline at 8am! ;D I realise we chose to bring him along and so therefore chose to suffer the consequences, it was the volume I had the issue with, language and I tried to deal with it myself in a polite friendly way. I hate confrontation We only take him along as we cant afford holidays in the year so the gathering is quite literally our 'holiday'. Tis the sacrifice having a hubby who loves cars I suppose! ;D ps I don't want families to be seperated from the rest of the group, personally I love the atmosphere! I'm sure there is a solution.

Obviously the families tended to favour the quiet side. Were you surprised by that? Personally I don't see a great difference between 'family camping' and 'quiet camping' - the two kinda go hand in hand. Maybe thats my mistake and something we need to look at. We'll do everything we can to resolve this, and I can guarantee next years campsite will be tweaked to make things run smoother. That said, if you found yourself closer to families than you would have liked I do wonder why you didn't pull your tent pegs and move your tent to an area you prefer. I'm not saying you should have to, of course you shouldn't, but surely it would have been an easy solution to your problem.

The group I was in was one of the first to arrive on Friday and after taking several hours to set up it is hardly just a case of easily moving a whole group is it although it was tempting as the w/end went on just to give the space to someone else who needed it more! It was the first year we camped on site so we didnt know the score, if we were told its more of a family area we could have pitched mid field, which would have made space for the likes of shully and her family away from the annoying mr white glasses.

Yeah I see that, and I get where you are coming from. It never had been a 'family' area, its always been a 'quiet' side and its always had a mix of people. To be honest in previous years families have been all over, this is the first time they really concentrated together which clearly highlights something for us

Bit dissapointed that some people thought a lot of the guest cars were lame and mostly slow....
We put a lot of hard work into getting our Kamei Golf to the show and were chased by the organises to bring it along.
I couldn't have pushed the car any harder especially as we have only been on circuit and not hill climbing before though we got it setup well and many peope on the day gave us great feedback and had many thank you's for coming to the event and said they were happy to see it pushed hard...hard enough to be nearly caught out on occassions.
Also Chris our mechanic who excitingly brought at the last minute his blu/wht ex racing Golf that was driven very very hard.

Don't be downhearted, your Kamei Golf was the best of all the demo cars to tilt-shift by a massive margin Soooooooooo cute I just want to cuddle it

Last year there where some really nice bergrennen cars going up the hill, the cars looked and sounded amazing and went like stink. In review with that, your awesome golf might have looked a bit underwhelming in speed (even though it probably wasn't far off), but still it was a very good sight to see it going up the hill, just as all other demo cars! I think we where just spoiled last year with all demo cars and where expecting a same level of epicness, which was there in potential, but due to some different factors it didn't reach it's full potential. Don't take this as an offence to you in any way. Sometimes my english isnt good enough to express myself the way i'd want it, but for me it was a pleasure seeing the Golf going up the hill between the thundersaloon cars and the Napier-Bentley etc!

I would never be able to compete with machinery like Ralf's Berg Golf that was there last year though i think i surprised a lot of people with my car when they found out i was only running a modified 8v engine still running on k-jet :-)

I was happy just to see Hamish's Quattro up close, he told everyone that spoke to him about the car performance in that it was only running on 1 bar of boost due to awaiting parts needed then rolling roaded so due to these last minute constraints getting it setup fully was impossible so it came to the event as is..... when cars are built to this spec it can take time to get them setup properly and anything can happen before a set date.

Anyone who has seen te build thread knows how much work he put into the car, it was a real asset to his skills and attention to detail And I did not see the Kamei golf go up the hill (we were at the bottom directing you!) but it still sounded ace and looked brilliant!

Al Yes i will stick with the 8v, they have always meant a lot to me and being out long before the 16v came along i always wanted to try to stay more period. She was down on power on the day though it was only noticable to me if i changed gear at the wrong revs...doing it at plenty of chat felt fine. When i put the engine all back together with mates i noticed she has pinked a bit on lower octane fuel so to protect her at Brands Hatch and Prescott i knocked her back a bit via the distribuutor. It has an obsolete engine managment called K-Star that needs re-setting up on a rolling road, i need to re-test the leads and software i have packed away, maybe something to do on my next pay day to see if i can get more power as i have ported the inlet manifold to match the larger audi80 TB on her. I think the light flywheel has helped also this time around so plenty more to come out of her.

Blimey K-Star, you do like it old school ;D Not seen one in years, Vince a Stealth and TSR used to get involved with these IIRC From memory the Merc boys used them on their old K-Jets also

You should run it on 99 octane and put the timing back to MBT, no point skimping on a bit of petrol for such a lovely car!
My Celica is an import model and HAS to be run on 99 or higher, if not, cracked ring lands and broken engine!!
