Hi I found the 405 extremely easy to live with, both mine had the 1.9 turbo diesel engine, they were happy both around town and at motorway speeds and did 45 to 50 mpg.

The main problem is head gasket failure that quite often damages the head too. The cooling system needs to be bled properly as they can suffer from airlocks.

I miss my 405's even at 12 years old and 170,000 miles they were much nicer to drive the 2 year old Scenic we now have and i regret selling them.

I'm still looking for a 305 estate and will one day get a 504 pickup too (some crazy idea about buying one in Morocco or somewhere similar and driving it home) if I can't find an affordable one here.
