Having a good amount of car related sado-masochismn - pain is a good thing No pain, no gain. I've struck a bargain though, I have a couple of overtime hours - new radiator should arrive tomorrow And I couldn't resist doing some more machining yesterday night... Turns out - I can't turn the piece around, the nozzle is too big to fit the chuck. And chucking it only at the very tip - nooope. It'll just fly in my face and ruin it even further So - I machined it down with a 60° threading tool and then machined the edges with a right & left handed cutter. And then... I took the longest & thinnst drill I could find and drilled the longest pilot hole ever... ^I worked the drill a couple of mm forwards, then retracted it and pushed the tailstock in - trying to keep things as straight as possible. Looking through it from the other end of the spindle - it might have worked. Cheers, Jan

Well - out with the coolant once more.... Unwrap yet another shiney new bit of aluminium... ...and back in with the coolant. Once more. I've let it warm up - no leaks anywhere. Injectors are still nailing a bit, but that's remains of air or ultra fine dirt - they usually take about 1000km to properly bed in. 2 injection lines are leaking, however. Probably dirt. I might swap them over with the shineyer ones from the spare engine anyway. Well - all good! After a couple of minutes of idling and reving it a bit, idle got notably better. And most amazing - I could still breathe with the doors closed and the engine runing for almost 15 minutes! With the old injectors, I'd be dead Turned off the light, locked the door - and finished the machining on the bypass adapter. All in! And now I can't part it off, 'cause the chuck is in the way - what a genius I am! But I have a plan... Cheers, Jan

So with Jesus Death Memorial Day I thought it would be more clever to do work inside. And so I finished my bypass hose thingy. I marked the piece and took it out of the chuck. and machined another piece of aluminum, inside and outside. Then I parted it off... ...and attacked it with the hack saw. Multiple times. I deburred the pieces and put them in the chuck. To - clamp down the Bypass Adapter to machine the other side. This worked quite well, but it took some time to true up the work piece. The chuck is pretty worn. But I got there in the end. It was hard to machine with the little room I got between the work piece and the tail stock. But somehow it all worked out. I reduced it to just the required diameter and parted it off. Had to bore the last 1.5mm, I had not bored it out all the way needed. No problem, but it was tricky to find just the right amount of depth of cut to not throw it out. My collets didn't provide a huge amount of clamping. But, it sort of went well, little chamfere and done. And - it's a very snug fit to the hoses it should fit later on. Nice and tight. If this leaks, I don't know what will not Now I need to find a way to machine a flat to the center section and then it'll be fitted with one of these: I'm pleased the way it came out, even if it's not quite as symetrical as I wanted it to be. On the second side I was more concentrated on not having it fly into my face than making it symetrical. But honestly; who cares. It will be almost completely hidden later on. It doesn't matter. It will work, that's all it needs to do. and I learned a lot about working on the lathe! So - that's one done, one to do. and for the next I will take a longer piece of round bar to start with So all in all - all good. I'm happy with that! Cheers, Jan

Nice work! Do you want to flat it so you can drill and tap the barb in? Wouldn't it be easy enough to clamp it and use a pillar drill? You could probably reuse your collets for this. Otherwise, a little filing would surely give you enough purchase to drill.

Thanks! I would only need a 90° plate with a slide on the lathe to do somewhat precise milling... Or the good old fashioned file will do just fine. Anyway. Figured I try to see how the arrangement of heat exchangers will work out. This is - pretty much excellent! Enough room for all three with a big air gap between them and the oil cooler duct has only a minor overlap with the chargecooler-cooler. Unfortunately I broke the CC-C by trying to break off a bracket. No major bummer, I would have probably looked for a better one anyway. It's pretty corroded. And then I drove the car out, under it's own power. And I couldnt resist making a little tyre smoke Next up was an oil change on the Taxi. Cheers, Jan

Started on the second adapter. And found out I had to re-profile my wee little boring bar (8x8mm ) to be able to go for the whole 65mm. ^last time I had already bored it out enough the first time to clear it. This time it was "all at once". I'll leave the rest for another day - it's very relaxing to do this after a working day of panel beating Cheers, Jan

Danke! Next up: not so schön... I had a bag of sand flown in from India... With which i stuffed a piece of steel pipe which I then welded shut. Heated it up a bit - didn't heat it up. I found an old Minolta Rokkor 55mm / 1:1.7. With adapter to my modern Minolta. It's lost it's infinite focus, but makes for a nice macro lens The bokeh is just lovely!

Sure is! Looks like a 9 or 11 bladed shutter? I love my macro lens. It is a great tool. I think it's nine Might buy an adapter with correction lens, I love those old lenses. My dream would be a 58/1.2 - but they are EXPENSIVE. Should have bought one years ago, but even then I thought they were expensive... But now - christ... Would plumbers bending kit work any better ? Nice lathe work as well !! Sure would. They can be had for as little as 35€. But where's the fun in that...
