thought I'd show a few picture of my latest Cavalier, a run-out LX model.
It came into a local yard and was spotted by a friend who talked them into putting it to one side for a few days and giving it a chance to sell. it was on the ramps being de-polluted and they were just going to crush it.
I heard about it and went straight up to have a look, it looked very solid and original so negotiated a price and delivery back to my house. I have loads of Cavalier parts in my loft and in a shipping container, I have another Mk2 and a Mk3 too so I was confident sorting it wouldnt be a problem. This was back in August.
parked next to my SRi hatch
A proper inspectin revealed it was solid as you like, no rust in any of the usual spots... it was starting to look like a great save. Anyway, I wanted to use it to do 12 car rallies in this winter so I decided to bin the standard 1.6 in favour of a good old redtop 16v.
The only bit of welding needed for the MOT...
At the same time as this, I fitted a digi dash I had spare, and renewed all suspension bushes, fitted GAZ shocks, larger brakes, braided hoses and SRi 130 wheels. I and also fitted a new tank - the old one was holed during de-pollution but I needed a fuel injection one anyway.
The car passed the MOT first time of asking 3 weeks ago now, its a lot of fun and the first rally is in a few weeks so looking forward to it now. It should be on the hill at RRG in August too, Ive got a few Castle Combe days planned too. It'll earn its keep!
Ive got a lot of work to do on the hatch, but I think longterm plan for this will be to tidy the rusty arches and then build myself a decent spec redtop with carbs or throttle boddies on it.
